Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) is a recognized, dynamic approach to monitoring the transmission of pathogens in communities through urban wastewater. This study aimed to detect and quantify influenza A and B viruses in Italian wastewater during the 2022-2023 season (October 2022 to April 2023). A total of 298 wastewater samples were collected from 67 wastewater treatment plants (WTPs) across the country.

Autoimmune-Like Mechanism in Heart Failure Enables Preventive Vaccine Therapy.

Background: Heart failure (HF) is strongly associated with inflammation. In pressure overload (PO)-induced HF, cardiac stress triggers adaptive immunity, ablation or inhibition of which blocks disease progression. We hypothesized that PO-HF might fulfill the often-used criteria of autoimmunity: if so, the associated adaptive immune response would be not only necessary but also sufficient to induce HF; it should also be possible to identify self-antigens driving the autoimmune response.

Carbon Nanotube-Phenyl Modified g-CN: A Visible Light Driven Efficient Charge Transfer System for Photocatalytic Degradation of Rhodamine B.

In this study, we report the synthesis and characterization of a novel photocatalyst composite composed of functionalized carbon nanotubes (f-CNT) and phenyl-modified graphitic carbon nitride (PhCN). The incorporation of the phenyl group extends the absorption range into the visible spectrum compared to pure g-CN. Additionally, the formation of the heterostructure in the f-CNT/PhCN composite exhibits improved charge transfer efficiency, facilitating the separation and transfer of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and reducing recombination rates.
