Using organic dyes as photocatalysts is an innovative approach to photocatalytic organic transformations. These dyes offer advantages such as widespread availability, adaptable absorption properties, and diverse chemical structures. Recent progress has led to the development of organic photocatalysts that can utilize visible light to modify chemically inert C-H bonds.

High-temperature superconducting wires have many large-scale, niche applications such as commercial nuclear fusion as well as numerous other large-scale applications in the electric power industry and in the defense, medical and transportation industries. However, the price/performance metric of these coated conductor wires is not yet favorable to enable and realize most large-scale applications. Here we report on probing the limits of J (H, T) possible via defect engineering in heteroepitaxially deposited high-temperature superconducting thin-films on coated conductor substrates used for long-length wire fabrication.

Tetanus is a toxigenic illness caused by the action of neurotoxin (TeNT), which results in partial or generalized muscle stiffness in infected mammals and birds. The disease is rarely reported in cats due to their innate resistance to the toxin. This multicentric retrospective study aimed to describe a significant population of cats with a diagnosis of tetanus and report their signalment, clinical and neurological signs, diagnostic findings, treatment, and outcome.

Short carbon atomic wires, the prototypes of the lacking carbon allotrope carbyne, represent the fundamental 1D system and the first stage in carbon nanostructure growth, which still exhibits many open points regarding their growth and stability. An in situ UV resonance Raman approach is introduced for real-time monitoring of the growth of carbon atomic wires during pulsed laser ablation in liquid without perturbing the synthesis environment. Single-chain species' growth dynamics are tracked, achieving size selectivity by exploiting the peculiar optoelectronic properties of carbon wires and the tunability of synchrotron radiation.

A selective direct arylation of the different Csp2-H bonds of imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole with (hetero) aryl halides can be achieved simply by switching from a palladium catalyst system to the use of stoichiometric amounts of copper. The observed selectivity, also rationalized by DFT calculations, can be explained by a change in the mechanistic pathways between electrophilic palladation and base-promoted C-H metalation.

Objectives: To present a case series of novel variants in patients presenting with genetic epileptic and developmental encephalopathy.
Background: CHD2 gene encodes an ATP-dependent enzyme, chromodomain helicase DNA-binding protein 2, involved in chromatin remodeling. Pathogenic variants in CHD2 are linked to early-onset conditions such as developmental and epileptic encephalopathy, drug-resistant epilepsies, and neurodevelopmental disorders.

Cytochrome P450 enzymes are monooxygenases widely diffused in nature ranging from viruses to man. They can catalyze a very wide range of reactions, including the ketonization of C-H bonds, N/O/S-dealkylation, C-C bond cleavage, N/S-oxidation, hydroxylation, and the epoxidation of C=C bonds. Their versatility makes them valuable across various fields such as medicine, chemistry, and food processing.

Purpose: To compare the outcomes of hamstring tendon (HT) and quadriceps tendon (QT) autografts for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in patients aged 50 years or older in terms of patient-reported functional outcomes, graft failure rates, complications, return to sports activity, and sports preference.
Methods: Between 2010 and 2022, prospectively collected data were obtained from an institutional database. Patients aged 50 years or older who underwent primary arthroscopic ACL reconstruction with either HT or QT autograft and had a minimum 2-year follow-up were included.

We report iridium-catalyzed C-H borylations for the regioselective synthesis of distally disubstituted calix[4]arene macrocycles. The atom- and step-economical method led to a broad family of calix[4]arenes in good yields and functional group tolerance. The synthetic utility of the C-H borylation protocol was finally illustrated with several late-stage modifications for the synthesis of elaborate calix[4]arenes frameworks, otherwise challenging to achieve with commonly employed procedures.

This work aimed to evaluate the effect of different extraction solvents on the polyphenolic content, antioxidant and antibacterial activity of stems. The results obtained show that the extraction yield depends strongly on the polarity of the solvent and the extraction method. The ethanolic extract had the highest yield in both extraction methods investigated, namely Soxhlet ( = 9.

Over the past three decades, there was a remarkable growth in the approval of antibody-based biopharmaceutical products. These molecules are notably susceptible to the stresses occurring during drug manufacturing, often leading to structural alterations. A key concern is thus the ability to detect and comprehend these alterations caused by processes, such as aggregation, fragmentation, oxidation levels, as well as the change in protein concentration throughout the process steps, potentially resulting in out-of-spec products.

We report an unprecedented iron-catalyzed C-H annulation using readily available 2-vinylbenzofurans as the reaction pattern. The redox-neutral strategy, based on cheap, non-toxic, and earth-abundant iron catalysts, exploits triazole assistance to promote a cascade C-H alkylation, benzofuran ring-opening and insertion into a Fe-N bond, to form highly functionalized isoquinolones. Detailed mechanistic studies supported by DFT calculations fully disclosed the manifold of the iron catalysis.
