Targeting metabolic reprogramming in glioblastoma as a new strategy to overcome therapy resistance.

Section of Physiology, Department of Biomedical and Biotechnological Sciences, University of Catania, Catania, Italy.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is one of the deadliest tumors due to its high aggressiveness and resistance to standard therapies, resulting in a dismal prognosis. This lethal tumor carries out metabolic reprogramming in order to modulate specific pathways, providing metabolites that promote GBM cells proliferation and limit the efficacy of standard treatments. Indeed, GBM remodels glucose metabolism and undergoes Warburg effect, fuelling glycolysis even when oxygen is available.

This paper presents an epidemiological extension of the El Farol Bar problem, where both a social and an epidemiological dimension are present. In the model, individual agents making binary decisions-to visit a bar or stay home-amidst a non-fatal epidemic. The extension of the classic social dilemma is implemented as an agent-based model, and it is later explored by sampling the parameter space and observing the resulting behavior.

Purpose: Chronic skin ulcers in diabetic foot patients are a significant health concern. Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) significantly threaten the health and longevity of individuals with diabetes, leading to severe complications like infection and amputation and contributing to high morbidity and mortality rates. Given the severe implications, practical strategies to prevent and manage DFUs are crucial to reducing amputation rates.

Introduction: Profilin 2 (PFN2) is an actin binding protein highly expressed in the brain that participates in actin dynamics. It has been shown in vitro and in vivo that in neurons it functions both post-synaptically to shape and maintain dendritic arborizations and spine density and plasticity, as well as pre-synaptically to regulate vesicle exocytosis. PFN2 was also found in protein complexes with proteins that have been implicated in or are causative of autism spectrum disorder.

Objective: Maternal obesity and excessive weight gain during pregnancy predispose to adverse fetal outcomes and health issues for the offspring. Although maternal lipids play an important role in excess fetal fat accretion, previous studies found heterogeneous results regarding which lipid fraction is most involved in excessive fetal growth in maternal obesity and the role of cord lipids. The aim of this study was to evaluate lipid concentrations in maternal and cord blood in pregnant women with and without obesity and to correlate lipid profile with neonatal and placental biometric parameters.

Feasibility study of 4D-online monitoring of density gradients induced by lung cancer treatment using carbon ions.

Front Oncol

Biophysics Department, GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung GmbH, Darmstadt, Germany.

Tumor motion is a major challenge for scanned ion-beam therapy. In the case of lung tumors, strong under- and overdosage can be induced due to the high density gradients between the tumor- and bone tissues compared to lung tissues. This work proposes a non-invasive concept for 4D monitoring of high density gradients in carbon ion beam therapy, by detecting charged fragments.

People nowadays express their opinions in online spaces, using different forms of interactions such as posting, sharing, and discussing with one another. How do these digital traces change in response to events happening in the real world? We leverage Reddit conversation data, exploiting its community-based structure, to elucidate how offline events influence online user interactions and behavior. Online conversations, as posts and comments, are analyzed along their temporal and semantic dimensions.

This study represents the first investigation of the volatile composition of (Convolvulaceae) collected in Algeria, using headspace solid-phase microextraction and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC/MS). This technique allowed the identification of 44 compounds, constituting 96.9% of the total components.

Objectives: To gain further understanding of current outcomes regarding urethroplasty for female urethral stricture disease.

Methods: The European Association of Urology Section of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons formed the Female Reconstruction Group to enhance multicentric collaboration, and to generate more evidence on the most effective treatment options for female patients with recurrent urethral stricture. Patients were eligible for inclusion if they had a urethral stricture and had undergone one of three reconstructive procedures, namely ventral onlay flap (VOFU), ventral onlay graft (VOGU) or dorsal onlay graft (DOGU) urethroplasty.

Tralokinumab is a monoclonal antibody selectively targeting IL-13, approved for moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD), for which real-world data are scarce. This prospective, observational, multicentric study aimed to assess the long-term effectiveness and safety of tralokinumab in patients with AD in a real-world setting. Primary outcomes included 50%, 75%, and 90% improvement in Eczema Area and Severity Index score (EASI50, EASI75, EASI90, respectively) and improvements in Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) at 1 year.

In this contribution, we present new NIR-CPL/CD active Yb(III) complexes, which are synthesized by combining two ligands characterized by different types of chirality: central and axial chirality. The ligand bearing central chirality is represented by the neutral -,'-bis(2-pyridylmethylidene)-1,2-(, or ,) cyclohexanediamine (), whereas the axial ligand is 1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-diol (BINOL-H). A combined H NMR, thermodynamic (spectrophotometric titrations), and theoretical (DFT structural calculations) study is presented, revealing the high stability in the methanol solution of the homochiral -symmetric anionic [Yb(BINOL)] complexes, in which the two labile BINOLate molecules exhibit the same stereochemistry ( or ).

Research in the dynamics of blood flow is essential to the understanding of one of the major driving forces of human physiology. The hemodynamic conditions experienced within the cardiovascular system generate a highly variable mechanical environment that propels its function. Modeling this system is a challenging problem that must be addressed at the systemic scale to gain insight into the interplay between the different time and spatial scales of cardiovascular physiology processes.

Study DesignRetrospective Cohort Study.ObjectiveIsthmic spondylolisthesis is frequently encountered in spine surgical practice, though there is a significant variation in surgical management strategies. We sought to evaluate revision rates between patients who underwent anterior-approach lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) alone, posterolateral fusion (PLF) alone, PLIF/TLIF, and ALIF+PSF.
