Objectives: The objective of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic performance of perineal access cannulas tethered to a biplanar ultrasound probe in cognitive transperineal prostate biopsies of targets identified by multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) by comparing the results of the PrecisionPoint (PP) Transperineal Access System with the double-freehand (DFH) technique.
Patients And Methods: All patients who underwent cognitive transperineal prostate biopsy of mpMRI targets using the PP or DFH technique between November 2020 and September 2023 were enrolled. All data related to mpMRI target biopsies were stratified by technique, visibility in transrectal ultrasound and analysed by comparing PP versus DFH.

Introduction: Missing data in psychometric research presents a substantial challenge, impacting the reliability and validity of study outcomes. Various factors contribute to this issue, including participant non-response, dropout, or technical errors during data collection. Traditional methods like mean imputation or regression, commonly used to handle missing data, rely upon assumptions that may not hold on psychological data and can lead to distorted results.

Background: The present study investigated whether semantic processing of word and object primes can bias visual attention using top-down influences, even within an exogenous cueing framework. We hypothesized that real words and familiar objects would more effectively bias attentional engagement and target detection than pseudowords or pseudo-objects, as they can trigger prior knowledge to influence attention orienting and target detection.
Methods: To examine this, we conducted two web-based eye-tracking experiments that ensured participants maintained central fixation on the screen during remote data collection.

Introduction: Among the tasks employed to investigate decisional processes, the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) appears to be the most effective since it allows for deepening the progressive learning process based on feedback on previous choices. Recently, the study of decision making through the IGT has been combined with the application of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to understand the cognitive mechanisms and the neural structures involved. However, to date no review regarding the effects of tDCS on decisional processes assessed through the IGT is available.

Background: Myoepithelial carcinoma is a very rare yet aggressive tumor in children. Surgical intervention and local radiotherapy often lead to post-therapy complications, affecting both the aesthetic and functional quality of life in survivors. Hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers offer a minimally invasive option to improve the appearance and quality of life for these patients once they are declared tumor-free.

Chrono-nutritional factors may play a significant role in glucose regulation and the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D). We investigated the association between breakfast skipping (BS) and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels in a non-diabetic cohort of the ABCD project (nutrition, cardiovascular wellness and diabetes) representing the general population of Palermo, Italy Among the 623 participants included in the analysis, 118 individuals were identified as BS. In men, BS was associated with higher values of FPG ( < .

Introduction: Segmental focal glomerulosclerosis is a histological lesion characterized by podocyte damage. It may be a primary disease linked to an unknown circulating factor, secondary to viral infections, drug toxicity, or a disadaptive response to the loss of nephrons, or it may depend on gene mutations or have an indeterminate cause. The treatment of the primary form involves immunosuppressors.

Background/aims: Optimization of bowel preparation for small bowel capsule endoscopy (SBCE) is debated. Guidelines recommend 2 L of iso-osmolar polyethylene glycol (PEG) to improve SBCE visibility. We compared the efficacy of the standard 2 L PEG solution with a 1 L PEG plus ascorbate (PEG-ASC) preparation, which has already been established for large-bowel preparation.

Amniotic epithelial stem cells (AEC) hold potential for tissue regeneration, especially through their conditioned medium (AEC-CM) due to their immunomodulatory and regenerative effects. Nevertheless, advanced drug delivery systems such as hydrogels are needed to enable clinical applications. Herein, an gellable hyaluronic acid and polyethylene glycol-based iEDDA-cross-linked hydrogel was developed for the encapsulation and controlled release of AEC-CM.

This collaborative work by over 180 researchers from 40+ countries addresses the challenges posed by "phantom agents"-putative pathogenic agents named in literature without supporting data on their existence. Those agents remain on regulatory lists, creating barriers in trade and plant certification. Historically identified based solely on symptoms, these agents lack isolates or sequence data, making reliable detection or risk assessment impossible.

Objectives: In recent years, a smartphone-based ecological momentary assessment (EMA) approach for assessing awake bruxism (AB) has attracted growing interest, both in clinical and research settings. The present study was designed to investigate subjects' experience using an EMA-based smartphone application to detect factors that could hamper or facilitate its use for clinical and research purposes.

Some tumors employ a mechanism called alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT) to counteract telomere shortening-induced replicative senescence. Several hallmarks are used to identify cell lines and tumors as ALT-positive. Here, we analyzed a panel of ALT-positive and -negative cancer cell lines to investigate the specificity and sensibility of ALT-associated markers.

Seasonality of excessive daytime sleepiness has been proposed, yet no research has specifically investigated its impact on daytime sleepiness and cataplexy in central disorders of hypersomnolence. This study examined seasonal variations in daytime sleepiness and cataplexy in narcolepsy type 1, narcolepsy type 2 and idiopathic hypersomnia. Patients included in the study were on stable pharmacological treatment, and participated in sleep medicine interviews to assess diurnal sleepiness and daytime napping and completed the Epworth Sleepiness Scale to assess excessive daytime sleepiness (Epworth Sleepiness Scale ≥ 10).

Background: Abdominal pain is the cardinal symptom of acute pancreatitis (AP), often requiring opioid therapy. This study aimed to investigate the dose-dependent relationship between opioid therapy and moderately severe or severe AP.
Methods: This was a post-hoc analysis of the prospective PAINAP database, which recruited patients with first-time AP from 118 centres across 27 countries between April-June 30, 2022.

Binding, a critical cognitive process likely mediated by attention, is essential for creating coherent object representations within a scene. This process is vulnerable in individuals with dementia, who exhibit deficits in visual working memory (VWM) binding, primarily tested using abstract arrays of standalone objects. To explore how binding operates in more realistic settings across the lifespan, we examined the impact of object saliency and semantic consistency on VWM binding and the role of overt attention.

Lipids are metabolic messengers essential for energy production, membrane structure, and signal transduction. Beyond their recognized role, lipids have emerged as metabolic rheostats of T cell responses, with distinct species differentially modulating CD8+ T cell (CTL) fate and function. Indeed, lipids can influence T cell signaling by altering their membrane composition; in addition, they can affect the differentiation path of T cells through cellular metabolism.
