Background: South Asians may be particularly susceptible to premature myocardial infarction (MI) owing both to conventional cardiovascular risk factors and practices distinctive to South Asia. Identifying modifiable risk factors for MI in these populations could inform prevention strategies. We have, therefore, studied conventional risk factors and other characteristics in relation to occurrence of first MI in Bangladesh.

Current efforts in regional climate planning: A dataset from Italian NUTS2 regions.

This data article provides a comprehensive description of climate change mitigation and adaptation policies implemented by 21 Italian regions (NUTS2 level) as of January 2024. It was developed as part a wider research work published by the authors [2]. The dataset collects information on the efforts the regions are making to tackle the climate crisis.

Sediment flow connectivity index data for the Apulia region (Italy): An open-source geodatabase and the innovative CONNECTOSED WebGIS platform.

An open-source geodatabase and its associate WebGIS platform (CONNECTOSED) were developed to collect and utilize data for the Sediment Flow Connectivity Index (SfCI) for the Apulia region of southern Italy. Maps depicting sediment mobility and connectivity across the hydrographic basins of the Apulia region were generated and stored in the geodatabase. This geodatabase is organized into folders containing data in TIFF, shapefile, Jpeg and Pdf formats, including input variables (digital elevation model, land cover map, rainfall map, and soil units dataset for each hydrographic basin), classification graphs (ranking of variable values), dimensionless index maps (slope, ruggedness, rainfall, land cover, and soil stability) and key products (maps of sediment mobility, SfCI, and applied SfCI).

Background: This study aimed to explore behaviour of practitioners in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, analysing the factors that influenced their decisions to resume professional practice post-lockdown and intention to adhere to COVID-19 protective measures.

Methods: A web-based cross-sectional survey targeting Italian practitioners was carried out to study the post lockdown behaviour and future intention to provide new contact lens (CL) fittings, and the use of protective measures. The survey also explored the dimensions of the Integrated Behavioural Model (IBM) and the Health Belief Model (HBM) to predict the intention to resume professional practice and to comply with protective measures respectively.

This investigation looks into farmers' knowledge of climate change, their perception of risks and impacts, and the strategies they anticipate to tackle the challenges of adaptation. We present a case of pediatric ARDS due to chlorine exposure in which lung lavage and exogenous surfactant were successful in avoiding more invasive and costly treatments.

Methane, Ethane, and Propane Detection Using a Quartz-Enhanced Photoacoustic Sensor for Natural Gas Composition Analysis.

A compact and portable gas sensor based on quartz-enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy (QEPAS) for the detection of methane (C1), ethane (C2), and propane (C3) in natural gas (NG)-like mixtures is reported. An interband cascade laser (ICL) emitting at 3367 nm is employed to target absorption features of the three alkanes, and partial least-squares regression analysis is employed to filter out spectral interferences and matrix effects characterizing the examined gas mixtures. Spectra of methane, ethane, and propane mixtures diluted in nitrogen are employed to train and test the regression algorithm, achieving a prediction accuracy of ∼98%, ∼96%, and ∼93% on C1, C2, and C3, respectively.

Previous reports have indicated that during the era of combination antiretroviral therapy, the major causes of morbidity and mortality in people living with HIV (PLWH) were not solely linked to HIV-related opportunistic infections but also to cancers that were difficult to manage due to HIV-related immunodeficiency. We investigated whether PLWH who underwent autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT) for lymphomas experienced significant morbidity over the past thirty years following HIV infection. We conducted a retrospective follow-up study of 49 PLWH over a 10-year period following ASCT.

This position stand is intended to provide a scientific foundation for athletes, dietitians, trainers, and other practitioners regarding the effects of supplemental ω-3 PUFA in healthy and athletic populations. The following conclusions represent the official position of the ISSN: Athletes may be at a higher risk for ω-3 PUFA insufficiency.
