Correlates of Impaired Timing Abilities in Schizophrenia: A Systematic Review.

This review aimed at summarizing the literature evidence on clinical, cognitive, and neurobiological correlates of impaired timing abilities in schizophrenia (SCZ). Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, a systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, EMBASE, and PsycInfo by looking at correlates between timing abilities and either symptom severity, cognition, and neurobiological data (imaging and electroencephalography) in individuals with SCZ, without restrictions on study design. A total of 45 articles were selected: associations were identified between impaired timing performance and positive, negative, and disorganization symptoms, as well as with executive functioning, working memory, and attention.

Introduction: Dysmenorrhea is a painful symptom associated with uterine contractions and menstrual bleeding and is treated by administering analgesic drugs. Since progesterone receptors (PRs) have a major role in regulating uterine tissues (myometrium and endometrium) oral contraceptives are used off-label for treating primary or secondary dysmenorrhea. The development of selective progesterone receptor modulators (SPRMs) a class of synthetic steroids with agonistic, antagonistic, or mixed effects in targeting PRs in different tissues stimulated their possible clinical use for treating secondary dysmenorrhea related to uterine diseases (endometriosis, adenomyosis, uterine fibroids).

Monitoring response to prone positioning.

Purpose Of Review: The increasing use of prone position, in intubated patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome as well as in patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure receiving noninvasive respiratory support, mandates a better definition and monitoring of the response to the manoeuvre. This review will first discuss the definition of the response to prone positioning, which is still largely based on its effect on oxygenation. We will then address monitoring respiratory and hemodynamic responses to prone positioning in intubated patients.

Background: BERIL-1 was a randomized phase 2 study that studied paclitaxel with either buparlisib, a pan-class I PIK3 inhibitor, or placebo in patients with recurrent or metastatic (R/M) head and neck squamous cell cancer (HNSCC). Considering the therapeutic paradigm shift with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) now approved in the first-line setting, we present an updated immunogenomic analysis of patients enrolled in BERIL-1, including patients with immune-infiltrated tumors.

Background: The coexistence of sickle cell anemia and multiple sclerosis in a single patient presents a rare and challenging clinical scenario, possibly favoured by the interplay between chronic inflammatory states and autoimmune processes.

Methos/results: We present the case of a 36-year-old woman with sickle cell anemia who developed progressive neurological symptoms leading to frequent falls and paraparesis; magnetic resonance imaging showed many periventricular, infratentorial, and both cervical and dorsal spinal cord lesions, leading to a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. After a multidisciplinary approach the patient was successfully started on ofatumumab.

The selected effects theory is supposed to provide a fully naturalistic basis for statements about what biological traits or processes are for without appeal to final causes or intelligent design. On the selected effects theory, biologists are allowed to say, for instance, that hindwing eyespots on butterfly wings serve to deflect predators' attacks away from vital organs because a similar fitness-enhancing effect explains why eyespots themselves were favoured by natural selection and persisted in the population. The high salinity and organic content in oil and gas wastewaters can cause ion suppression during liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC/MS) analysis, diminishing the sensitivity and accuracy of measurements in available methods. This suppression is severe for low molecular weight organic compounds such as ethanolamines (, monoethanolamine (MEA), diethanolamine (DEA), triethanolamine (TEA), -methyldiethanolamine (MDEA), and ,-ethyldiethanolamine (EDEA)).
