This paper addresses the participation of independent aggregators (IAs) for demand response (DR) in European electricity markets. An IA is an aggregator trading the flexibility of consumers of which it is not the electricity supplier. Particularly, we focus on the controversial issue of a compensation payment from the IA to the supplier for energy sourcing.

Importance of the multidisciplinary approach in the surgical treatment of giant mediastinal neoplasms: a case series.

This item improved overall survival, accuracy of staging and adherence to guidelines. Evaluating Federal Policies Using Bayesian Time Series Models: Estimating the Causal Impact of the Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program.

Researchers are often faced with evaluating the effect of a policy or program that was simultaneously initiated across an entire population of units at a single point in time, and its effects over the targeted population can manifest at any time period afterwards. In the presence of data measured over time, Bayesian time series models have been used to impute what would have happened after the policy was initiated, had the policy not taken place, in order to estimate causal effects. However, the considerations regarding the definition of the target estimands, the underlying assumptions, the plausibility of such assumptions, and the choice of an appropriate model have not been thoroughly investigated.

In this work, we studied SiO/ZnO nanoparticles functionalized with porphyrin as a photosensitizer, capable of producing cancer cytotoxic reactive oxygen species for possible use in radio-oncological therapeutics.

Can Family Policies Enhance Fertility? An Ex Ante Evaluation Through Factorial Survey Experiments.

This article explores the family policies-fertility nexus by assessing the potential impact of parental leaves, childcare services, and child benefits on fertility through a factorial survey experiment (FSE). We focus on Italy, where persistently low fertility rates are often linked to limited welfare support for families. We surveyed 4,022 respondents aged 20-44 and exposed them to various scenarios characterized by different family policy packages.

Office-Based Endoscopic Urological Procedures Under Local Anesthesia: Prospective Evaluation of Feasibility, Pain, and Patient Preference.

Several diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic urological procedures, such as stent placement, ureteroscopy, and bladder stone lithotripsy, can be performed in a hospital, an ambulatory surgery center, in the office with IV sedation, or in the office using only topical anesthesia. The potential benefits of performing procedures in the office setting using topical anesthesia include efficiency and cost reduction. The potential harms are failure to achieve the desired outcome and patient pain.

Photonics bound states in the continuum (BICs) are peculiar localized states in the continuum of free-space waves, unaffected by far-field radiation loss. Although plasmonic nano-antennas squeeze the optical field to nanoscale volumes, engineering the emergence of quasi-BICs with plasmonic hotspots remains challenging. Here, the origin of symmetry-protected (SP) quasi-BICs in a 2D system of silver-filled dimers, quasi-embedded in a high-index dielectric waveguide, is investigated through the strong coupling between photonic and plasmonic modes.

Background: Biowaste accounts for about 40% of total waste. Food-industry waste is one major biowaste stream. Gut Microbiome as a Potential Marker of Hematologic Recovery Following Induction Therapy in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Patients.

Background: The management of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is hindered by treatment-related toxicities and complications, particularly cytopenia, which remains a leading cause of mortality. Particle-tracking microrheology probes the rheology of soft materials by accurately tracking an ensemble of embedded colloidal tracer particles. One-particle analysis, which focuses on the trajectory of individual tracers is ideal for homogeneous materials that do not interact with the particles. By contrast, the characterization of heterogeneous, micro-structured materials or those where particles interact directly with the medium requires a two-particle analysis that characterizes correlations between the trajectories of distinct particle pairs.
