Effectiveness of a stepped-care programme of WHO psychological interventions in a population of migrants: results from the RESPOND randomized controlled trial.

Migrant populations - including labour migrants, undocumented migrants, asylum seekers, refugees, internationally displaced persons, and other populations on the move - are exposed to a variety of stressors that affect their mental health. We designed and tested the effectiveness of a stepped-care programme consisting of two scalable psychological interventions developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and locally adapted for migrant populations. A parallel-group randomized controlled trial was conducted in Italy.

This is the first bottom-up review of the lived experience of postpartum depression and psychosis in women. The study has been co-designed, co-conducted and co-written by experts by experience and academics, drawing on first-person accounts within and outside the medical field. The material initially identified was shared with all participants in a cloud-based system, discussed across the research team, and enriched by phenomenological insights.

Open Partial Horizontal Laryngectomy in the Elderly: Oncological and Functional Outcomes.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to investigate the oncological and functional prognostic implication of perioperative risk factors in the elderly patient who underwent open partial horizontal laryngectomy (OPHL).

Study Design: A single institution, retrospective case-cohort study.

Methods: The present study retrospectively reviewed the clinical charts of a cohort of 100 elderly laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) patients who underwent OPHL at our institution.

Photo-Rechargeable Sodium-Ion Batteries with a Two-Dimensional MoSe Crystal Cathode.

Combining energy harvesting with energy storage systems in a single device could offer great advantages for continuous power supply in both indoor and outdoor electric applications. In this work, we demonstrate a photochargeable sodium-ion battery (PSIB) based on a photoactive cathode of two-dimensional crystals of MoSe. This photocathode enables spontaneous photodriven charging of a sodium-ion battery cathode under illumination and an increase in the reversible capacity to 29% at 600 mA g compared to that under dark conditions during galvanostatic cycling.

Objectives: To establish whether the risk of psychotic disorders in cannabis users changes with time following cannabis cessation using data from the European Network of National Networks studying Gene-Environment Interactions in Schizophrenia (EU-GEI) case-control study.

Methods: The EU-GEI case-control study collected data from first episode psychosis patients and population controls across sites in Europe and Brazil between May 2010 and April 2015. Adjusted logistic regressions were applied to examine whether the odd of psychosis case status changed: (1) with time following cannabis cessation and (2) across different cannabis use groups.

Objective: The behavioral and diagnostic heterogeneity within the opioid use disorder (OUD) diagnosis is not readily captured in current animal models, limiting the translational relevance of the mechanistic research that is conducted in experimental animals. The authors hypothesized that a nonlinear clustering of OUD-like behavioral traits would capture population heterogeneity and yield subpopulations of OUD vulnerable rats with distinct behavioral and neurocircuit profiles.

Methods: Over 900 male and female heterogeneous stock rats, a line capturing genetic and behavioral heterogeneity present in humans, were assessed for several measures of heroin use and rewarded and non-rewarded seeking behaviors.

Long-acting growth hormones (LAGHs) represent a significant advancement in the treatment of pediatric growth hormone deficiency (GHD), offering an alternative to daily recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) therapy. Traditional rhGH treatments, while effective, require daily injections, often leading to poor adherence due to the frequency of dosing, injection pain, and difficulties with storage and travel. In contrast, LAGHs, such as somatrogon, somapacitan, and lonapegsomatropin, are designed for once-weekly administration, improving patient compliance and quality of life.

NRF2 Antioxidant Response and Interferon-Stimulated Genes Are Differentially Expressed in SARS-CoV-2-Positive Young Subjects.

Background: Several respiratory viruses, including Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), suppress nuclear factor-E2-related factor-2 (NRF2) antioxidant response, generating oxidative stress conditions to its advantage. NRF2 has also been reported to regulate the innate immune response through the inhibition of the interferon (IFN) pathway. However, its modulation in younger individuals and its correlation with the IFN response remain to be elucidated.

Kiwifruit Vine Decline Syndrome (KVDS) is a soilborne disease affecting Actinidia fruit trees in perennial cropping systems. Since its emergence in 2012, studies have increasingly identified the oomycete as a major causative agent of the disease. is also implicated in complex soilborne disease systems of woody perennial crops, including replant disease in apple and pear.

Force Nanoscopy Demonstrates Stress-Activated Adhesion between Iron-Regulated Surface Determinant Protein B and Host Toll-like Receptor 4.

The iron-regulated surface determinant protein B (IsdB) has recently been shown to bind to toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), thereby inducing a strong inflammatory response in innate immune cells. Currently, two unsolved questions are (i) What is the molecular mechanism of the IsdB-TLR4 interaction? and (ii) Does it also play a role in nonimmune systems? Here, we use single-molecule experiments to demonstrate that IsdB binds TLR4 with both weak and extremely strong forces and that the mechanostability of the molecular complex is dramatically increased by physical stress, sustaining forces up to 2000 pN, at a loading rate of 10 pN/s. We also show that TLR4 binding by IsdB mediates time-dependent bacterial adhesion to endothelial cells, pointing to the role of this bond in cell invasion.

Adolescents with first-episode psychosis and clinical high risk in the Province of Ferrara: an audit on the implementation of a specialised early intervention program.

Objective: The first-episode psychosis (FEP) and clinical high-risk (CHR) team within the child and adolescent mental health (CAMH) service receives referrals by psychiatric units, CAMH service, schools, and general practitioners. This audit evaluated the implementation of the FEP-CHR team in Ferrara, Italy.

Methods: The FEP-CHR team provides standardised assessment and up to 2-year individualised treatment including pharmacological prescription, cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, and vocational activities.
