Deep intermediate burns of the hand are a challenge for both the functional and aesthetic result. In this study we compare the efficacy of early selective enzymatic escarolysis followed by the application of stromal vascular fraction (SVF) extracted from autologous adipose tissue on a dermal substitute scaffold (DS) versus reconstruction by partial thickness skin grafts (PTSG). We enrolled all patients admitted to our referral Burn Center from September 2020 to January 2022 with deep intermediate burns of the hands: clinical data were collected, then the first group of 4 patients were treated with PTSG surgical reconstruction, and the second group of 7 patients with DS+SVF.

The use of new oxygen supports associated to non-invasive respiratory strategies is well-established in clinical practice, especially after its extensive application in the management of Covid-19 respiratory failure. The use of high flow nasal cannula (HFNC) in patients undergoing procedural sedation and analgesia (PSA) is dramatically increasing. Enzymatic debridement in critical burn patients is a painful treatment that requires an optimal burn pain control protocol as well as a deep sedation for the entire duration of the procedure.

The keystone design perforator island flap (KDPIF) was first described by Behan in 2003 as a pliable flap, suitable for all body areas thanks to its curvilinear shape, which made it apt to fit mostly all cutaneous defects. In this article, we aim to share our experience using KDPIF for the reconstruction of different defects. A retrospective analysis of patients who underwent cutaneous excision after trauma or tumor resection and reconstruction with a KDPIF at our department from 2020 to 2023 was performed.

The stem canker disease eastern filbert blight (EFB), caused by , is a major impediment of European hazelnut () production in the United States. While most European hazelnut cultivars are highly susceptible to the pathogen, which remains confined to North America, EFB resistant and tolerant genotypes occur in the gene pool at low frequency. At Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, USA, 5,226 trees were grown from open pollinated seeds collected from Russia, Crimea, Poland, Turkey, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Italy, and the Republic of Georgia between 2002 to 2010.

Introduction: Considering that plant biostimulants can be sprayed multiple times on leafy crops even just before harvest, it is relevant to know the impact of biostimulant applications on population dynamics of lettuce leaves to ensure food safety. Two trials were carried out to investigate whether the applications of a seaweed extract and a vegetal-derived protein hydrolysate (PH) could affect the growth in shake flasks (Exp. 1) and plant growth and survival of artificially inoculated on the leaf surface of lettuce grown in a floating system (Exp.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses risks for food stakeholders because of the spread of resistant microbes and potential foodborne diseases. In example, pigs may carry strains, which can infect humans through contaminated food preparations. Due to their antibacterial properties and capacity to modulate bacterial drug resistance, essential oils (EOs) are attracting interest as prospective substitutes for synthetic antimicrobials which can help to reverse microbial resistance.

The brain's ability to perform efficient and fault-tolerant data processing is strongly related to its peculiar interconnected adaptive architecture, based on redundant neural circuits interacting at different scales. By emulating the brain's processing and learning mechanisms, computing technologies strive to achieve higher levels of energy efficiency and computational performance. Although efforts to address neuromorphic solutions through hardware based on top-down CMOS-based technologies have obtained interesting results in terms of energetic efficiency improvement, the replication of brain's self-assembled and redundant architectures is not considered in the roadmaps of data processing electronics.

Introduction: () infection is highly prevalent globally and poses a significant public health challenge due to its link with chronic gastritis, peptic ulcers, and gastric malignancies. 's persistence within the gastric environment, particularly in case of infection with virulent strains, triggers chronic inflammatory responses and mucosal damage. Antibiotic therapy is the primary approach for eradication, but antibiotic resistance and adverse effects hinder treatment efficacy.

Loss-of-function mutations in the chromodomain helicase DNA-binding 8 (CHD8) gene are strongly associated with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Indeed, the reduction of CHD8 causes transcriptional, epigenetic and cellular phenotypic changes correlated to disease, that can be monitored in assessing new therapeutic approaches. SINEUPs are a functional class of natural and synthetic antisense long non-coding RNAs able to stimulate the translation of sense target mRNA, with no effect on transcription.

Background: Prostate cancer is the most common diagnosed tumor and the fifth cancer related death among men in Europe. Although several genetic alterations such as ERG-TMPRSS2 fusion, MYC amplification, PTEN deletion and mutations in p53 and BRCA2 genes play a key role in the pathogenesis of prostate cancer, specific gene alteration signature that could distinguish indolent from aggressive prostate cancer or may aid in patient stratification for prognosis and/or clinical management of patients with prostate cancer is still missing. Therefore, here, by a multi-omics approach we describe a prostate cancer carrying the fusion of TMPRSS2 with ERG gene and deletion of 16q chromosome arm.

EGFR status assessment is mandatory for adjuvant decision-making of resected stage IB-IIIA non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NS-NSCLC). It is questionable whether single-gene RT-PCR versus next-generation sequencing (NGS) should be used for this evaluation. Moreover, co-occurring mutations have an impact on tumor behavior and may influence future therapeutic decision-making.

Optical approaches to monitor neural activity are transforming neuroscience, owing to a fast-evolving palette of genetically encoded molecular reporters. However, the field still requires robust and label-free technologies to monitor the multifaceted biomolecular changes accompanying brain development, aging or disease. Here, we have developed vibrational fiber photometry as a low-invasive method for label-free monitoring of the biomolecular content of arbitrarily deep regions of the mouse brain in vivo through spontaneous Raman spectroscopy.
