Purpose: In prostate cancer patients, high radiation doses to the urethra have been associated with an increased risk of severe genitourinary toxicity following dose-escalated radiotherapy. Urethra-sparing techniques have emerged as a promising approach to reduce urinary toxicity. This international survey aims to evaluate current global practices in urethra-sparing and explore future directions for the implementation of this technique in external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) for prostate cancer.

The role of elective pelvic nodal irradiation (EPNI) for high-risk prostate cancer (hrPC) management is still an open issue, especially for the elderly patients. It is unclear whether older patients can experience the same benefit from the treatment strategies used for younger men. Hence, in absence of solid data, it appears reasonable to pursuit a shared decision-making process so that older patients can express their informed preferences about the different treatment options.

Upper lateral cartilage and alar cartilage nose reconstruction secondary to failed aesthetic procedure or tumor excision, surely represents a reconstructive challenge for plastic surgeons, because of the support needed and for the function of the internal nasal valve (INV). Several scientific publications deal with internal nasal reconstructive techniques, including simple homologous or heterologous tissue grafts. We describe a new hybrid chondrocutaneous graft used for reconstruction of the upper lateral cartilage and a portion of the alar cartilage (cephalic part), excised with the adherent nasal mucosa (in correspondence with INV), included in the tumor mass.

Breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) is a rare form of non-Hodgkin T-cell lymphoma diagnosed in patients with a history of breast implants. Most patients develop a periprosthetic effusion at early stages of disease while less common presentations include a palpable mass, severe capsular contracture, lymphadenopathy, or cutaneous erythema. Due to the complex nature of this disease, a multidisciplinary approach is necessary for optimal management, particularly in locally advanced disease or inoperable patients.

We hypothesized that the heterogeneous architecture of biological neural networks provides a substrate to regulate the well-known tradeoff between robustness and efficiency, thereby allowing different subpopulations of the same network to optimize for different objectives. To distinguish between subpopulations, we developed a metric based on the mathematical theory of simplicial complexes that captures the complexity of their connectivity by contrasting its higher-order structure to a random control and confirmed its relevance in several openly available connectomes. Using a biologically detailed cortical model and an electron microscopic dataset, we showed that subpopulations with low simplicial complexity exhibit efficient activity.

In this study, we used two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy to examine the early femtosecond dynamics of suspensions of colloidal gold nanorods with different aspect ratios. In all samples, the signal distribution in the 2D maps at this timescale shows a distinctive dispersive behavior, which can be explained by the interference between the exciting field and the field produced on the nanoparticle's surface by the collective motion of electrons when the plasmon is excited. Studying this interference effect, which is active only until the plasmon has been dephased, allows for a direct estimation of the dephasing time of the plasmon of an ensemble of colloidal particles.

These materials have been developed for several applications, including catalysis, separation science, metal ion adsorption and nanomedicine. Carbon nanoparticles (CNPs) obtained through HTC are particularly interesting for the latter application since they exhibit photothermal properties when irradiated with near-infrared (NIR) light, act as an antioxidant by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS), and present good colloidal stability and biocompatibility.

Electrical performances of a biphenyl-derived amido Schiff base ligand L and its dinuclear Al(iii) complex (complex 1) were investigated in a metal-semiconductor (MS) junction. Electrical studies revealed that complex 1 significantly enhanced the electrical conductivity and improved the characteristics of a Schottky barrier diode (SBD). The - characteristics demonstrated that complexation of ligand L with Al(iii) ion increased the conductivity by two orders of magnitude (conductivity of L = 1.

The impressive performance of modern Large Language Models (LLMs) across a wide range of tasks, along with their often non-trivial errors, has garnered unprecedented attention regarding the potential of AI and its impact on everyday life. While considerable effort has been and continues to be dedicated to overcoming the limitations of current models, the potentials and risks of human-LLM collaboration remain largely underexplored. In this perspective, we argue that enhancing the focus on human-LLM interaction should be a primary target for future LLM research.

By virtue of their ability to bind different growth factors, morphogens and extracellular matrix proteins, heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) play a determinant role in cancer cell differentiation and migration. Despite a strong conceptual basis and promising preclinical results, clinical trials have failed to demonstrate any significant advantage of administering heparin to oncology patients. We exploited our anti-heparan sulfate branched peptide NT4 to test the opposite approach, namely, targeting HSPGs to interfere with their functions, instead of using heparin as a soluble competitor in human cell lines from pancreas adenocarcinoma, colon adenocarcinoma, rhabdomyosarcoma and two different breast cancers.

Background: Muscarinic receptor agonism and positive allosteric modulation is a promising mechanism of action for treating psychosis, not present in most D2R-blocking antipsychotics. Xanomeline, an M1/M4-preferring agonist, has shown efficacy in late-stage clinical trials, with more compounds being investigated. Therefore, we aim to synthesize evidence on the preclinical efficacy of muscarinic receptor agonists and positive allosteric modulators in animal models of psychosis to provide unique insights and evidence-based information to guide drug development.
