Embryo migration is defined as the movement of embryos to implant at the exact site in the endometrial cavity during assisted reproductive technology (ART). We aimed to evaluate the impact of embryo migration on clinical pregnancy (CPR) and live birth rates (LBR) in fresh oocyte donation (OD) cycles. A total of 611 fresh OD cycles was recruited in this prospective cohort study.

Background: We aimed to assess the factors associated with the transition time to full enteral feeding (FEF) in newborns with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) undergoing therapeutic hypothermia.

Methods: We obtained data retrospectively from medical records of the neonates diagnosed with HIE and treated by therapeutic hypothermia to evaluate the factors associated with transition time to FEF.

Results: Sixty-one neonates were included in the study.

Studies in infants with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) due to perinatal asphyxia have generally focused on neurological outcomes. Although acute kidney injury (AKI) rate decreased in advent of therapeutic hypothermia (TH), it is still a common and important entity. In this retrospective study, we aimed to investigate the risk factors for AKI in HIE patients treated with hypothermia.

Background: Although many improvements in neonatal care have been achieved, mortality rates for sepsis and septic shock in newborns are still high. The vasoactive inotropic score (VIS) was designed and studied to predict mortality in different settings. There are currently no data on the predictive ability of the VIS for mortality in newborn patients with septic shock.

Background: The Postnatal Growth and Retinopathy of Prematurity (G-ROP) Study showed that adding postnatal weight gain to birth weight and gestational age detected 100% of cases with type 1 retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) while reducing the ROP examinations by 30%. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether being small for gestational age (SGA) affects the sensitivity and specificity of the G-ROP model.

Methods: We applied the G-ROP criteria for premature infants.

Division of Genetics and Genomics, Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA 02115, USA; Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA 02115, USA; Allen Discovery Center for Human Brain Evolution, Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA 02115, USA. Electronic address:

Kinesins are canonical molecular motors but can also function as modulators of intracellular signaling. KIF26A, an unconventional kinesin that lacks motor activity, inhibits growth-factor-receptor-bound protein 2 (GRB2)- and focal adhesion kinase (FAK)-dependent signal transduction, but its functions in the brain have not been characterized. We report a patient cohort with biallelic loss-of-function variants in KIF26A, exhibiting a spectrum of congenital brain malformations.

Endometrial thickness (ENT) measurements are important to evaluate endometrial receptivity. The effect of endometrial thickness on pregnancy outcomes has been discussed for many years with conflicting results. The aim of our study was to find out the effect of endometrial thickness (ENT) change in response to progesterone on pregnancy outcomes in embryo transfer (ET) of fresh oocyte donation (OD) recipients.

Objective: Mydriatic eye drops used for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) examination can cause systemic effects, and there are case reports of serious adverse effects in the literature. In this prospective study, we aimed to evaluate the early hemodynamic effects of mydriatic eye drops to understand the possible mechanisms of adverse effects.

Study Design: Between December 2018 and March 2019, preterm babies less than 32 gestational weeks and who underwent ophthalmologic examination in our unit were included.

Diagnostic value of shear wave velocity in polycystic ovarian syndrome.

J Ultrason

November 2021

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Reproductive Endocrinology Division, Dünya IVF Center, Kyrenia, Cyprus, Turkey.

In polycystic ovarian syndrome, the ovaries become stiffer due to chronic anovulation. We aimed to compare tissue elasticity in terms of shear wave velocities measured using acoustic radiation force impulse imaging technique between the ovaries of polycystic ovarian syndrome women and non-polycystic ovarian syndrome women. The study was designed as a retrospective data analysis of women who underwent transvaginal ultrasound and acoustic radiation force impulse imaging in a university hospital between July 2014 and March 2015, for various reasons.

Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • - Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) affect over 3% of the population, posing significant social and economic challenges; despite advances in genomics, many cases remain undiagnosed.
  • - A study of 234 new subjects and 20 previously unsolved Turkish families used genome-wide screening, identifying clear genetic causes in 75.2% of families, with 218 distinct genes linked to these disorders.
  • - Notably, 28.9% of solved families exhibited multilocus pathogenic variations, often due to identical-by-descent segments in their genomes; additional sequencing helped achieve diagnoses in 25% of previously undiagnosed families.

Objectives: To find out if the expressed breast milk delivery rate to neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for babies who were hospitalized for any reason other than COVID-19, and exclusive breastfeeding (EB) rates between discharge date and 30th day of life of those babies were affected by COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: Babies who were hospitalized before the date first coronavirus case was detected in our country were included as control group (CG). The study group was divided into two groups; study group 1 (SG1): the mothers whose babies were hospitalized in the period when mother were asked not to bring breast milk to NICU, study group 2 (SG2): the mothers whose babies were hospitalized after the date we started to use the informed consent form for feeding options.

Article Synopsis
  • Idiopathic hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (IHH) leads to absent puberty and infertility due to a lack of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), and can be associated with conditions like Kallmann syndrome.* -
  • Researchers identified ten rare variants in the genes SEMA3F and PLXNA3 among IHH patients, suggesting these genetic changes may disrupt signaling that is crucial for the development and function of GnRH and olfactory systems.* -
  • The study concluded that signaling from Semaphorin-3F through receptors PLXNA1-A3 is important for guiding GnRH neurons and olfactory nerve fibers, indicating that deficiencies in this signaling could be a factor in the development of I

Am J Med Genet A

January 2021

Department of Medical Genetics and Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute, University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Article Synopsis
  • Dubowitz syndrome (DubS) is a condition that affects how people look and grow, with over 200 cases reported.
  • Scientists studied the DNA of 31 people with DubS and found genetic changes in 13 of those cases, which helped identify potential causes.
  • Many of the genes linked to DubS are newer discoveries, and the genetic differences in these cases show there's not just one cause for the syndrome.
