Objectives: Predicting the likelihood of adverse events following discharge from the intensive care unit (ICU) can contribute to improving the quality of surgical care. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of nursing care complexity as a predictor of adverse event development in general surgery patients transferred from the ICU to the hospital ward.
Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted with 100 patients in the ICU and general surgical inpatient unit of a training and research hospital in Istanbul, Turkey.

Invasive interventions, such as peripheral intravenous cannula, port needle placement, and blood collection, are often required for both inpatient and outpatient follow-up patients with hematological malignancies and hematopoietic stem cell transplants. This prospective, randomized controlled experimental study assessed the effect of orange oil inhalation used in aromatherapy on pain and anxiety levels in invasive interventions with hematological malignancies and hematopoietic stem cell transplants. It was conducted prospectively with 80 patients with hematological malignancies who were treated in the adult bone marrow transplant unit and adult hematology service of a private hospital between May 2021 and April 2022.

Purpose: The current experimental study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of reflexology on the management of symptoms and functions of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in cancer patients.
Method: This study was conducted as a randomized controlled trial in 60 patients (30 experimental and 30 control patients) who had chemotherapy-induced Grade II-IV peripheral neuropathy complaints from July 2013 to November 2015. Data were collected using the patient identification form, European Organization for the Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (EORTC-CIPN-20) form, and BPI (used for related chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy symptoms).

Nurten Kaya, PhD, BSN, is an associate professor, Health Sciences Faculty, Istanbul University, Turkey. Dr Kaya graduated from Istanbul University, Florence Nightingale School of Nursing in 1987. She completed her PhD from Istanbul University, Institute of Health Sciences in 2002. She worked at Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Department of Fundamentals of Nursing between from 1993 to 2013 and she has worked at the Health Sciences Faculty since 2013. Her areas of interest are intramuscular injection, complementary therapy, nursing informatics, nursing theories and models, nursing process and nursing care. Background: In order to plan and implement nursing intervention to reduce the incidence rate of unplanned extubation problem in the intensive care unit (ICU), it is necessary to determine the risk factors of unplanned extubation and the patients under risk.
Aims: This study was undertaken with the aim of evaluating the risk of unplanned extubation of endotracheal tube in adult ICU.

Aims: Many people with type 1 diabetes do not achieve optimal treatment targets despite high patient and professional input. To investigate the reasons underlying suboptimal control we have studied clinical characteristics and self-management behaviours in adults with type 1 diabetes attending a large treatment centre.
Methods: A questionnaire-based enquiry into self-care behaviours of 380 patients with type 1 diabetes (mean age: 48 (±15) years and mean duration of diabetes: 26 (±15) years), linked with validated measures of impact of treatment on perceived health and hypoglycaemia recognition (Insulin Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire; and EuroQoL EQ-5D, Gold score) and retrospective case note review of biomedical parameters.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of relaxation techniques and back massage on postoperative pain, anxiety, and vital signs on postoperative days 1-3 in patients who had undergone total hip or knee arthroplasty (THA, TKA). Cross-sectional data were collected by the completion of questionnaires by 350 nursing students from two nursing schools in Istanbul, Turkey. The psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the scale were analysed by using factor analysis (principal component analysis), assessment of internal consistency and reliability, and Spearman's rank correlation coefficients.
