The effectiveness of serious games in nursing education: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies.

Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to synthesize the effects of randomized controlled trials using serious gaming in nursing education on knowledge, skills, and confidence.

Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Data Sources: Randomized controlled trials published in English in PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library databases between 2000 and 2023.

Nursing care complexity as a predictor of adverse events in patients transferred from ICU to hospital ward after general surgery.

Objectives: Predicting the likelihood of adverse events following discharge from the intensive care unit (ICU) can contribute to improving the quality of surgical care. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of nursing care complexity as a predictor of adverse event development in general surgery patients transferred from the ICU to the hospital ward.

Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted with 100 patients in the ICU and general surgical inpatient unit of a training and research hospital in Istanbul, Turkey.

Effects of Orange Oil Aromatherapy on Pain and Anxiety During Invasive Interventions in Patients With Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplants.

Invasive interventions, such as peripheral intravenous cannula, port needle placement, and blood collection, are often required for both inpatient and outpatient follow-up patients with hematological malignancies and hematopoietic stem cell transplants. This prospective, randomized controlled experimental study assessed the effect of orange oil inhalation used in aromatherapy on pain and anxiety levels in invasive interventions with hematological malignancies and hematopoietic stem cell transplants. It was conducted prospectively with 80 patients with hematological malignancies who were treated in the adult bone marrow transplant unit and adult hematology service of a private hospital between May 2021 and April 2022.

Effectiveness of mandala coloring in reducing anxiety in women with early-stage breast cancer receiving chemotherapy for the first time.

Context: Many people with cancer experience fear or anxiety when starting chemotherapy for the first time. Mandala coloring is an art therapy approach commonly used for anti-stress therapy.

Objective: To assess whether mandala coloring reduces the anxiety experienced by women with early-stage breast cancer during their first chemotherapy session.

Background: Work and work environment have a critical influence on adolescent workers' health. They are subjected to more risks than adults. The aim of this study is to examine psychological health outcomes in adolescent workers in the areas of depression, somatization, anxiety, hostility, and negative self-concept, and to investigate any related factors.

Reflexology in the management of chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy: A pilot randomized controlled trial.

Purpose: The current experimental study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of reflexology on the management of symptoms and functions of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in cancer patients.

Method: This study was conducted as a randomized controlled trial in 60 patients (30 experimental and 30 control patients) who had chemotherapy-induced Grade II-IV peripheral neuropathy complaints from July 2013 to November 2015. Data were collected using the patient identification form, European Organization for the Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (EORTC-CIPN-20) form, and BPI (used for related chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy symptoms).

Effects of nurse-led clinical pathway in coronary artery bypass graft surgery: A quasi-experimental study.

Undergraduate nursing students and the elderly: An assessment of attitudes in a Turkish university.

At times when populations are aging and nursing services for elders are needed, gerontology as a nursing specialty is not a highly sought career choice. The purposes of this study were to assess the overall attitudes of nursing students at a Turkish university toward the elderly and to identify the effects of demographic and social factors on attitudes. Using a non-experimental design, the Turkish version of the Kogan's Attitudes towards Old People (KAOP) Scale was given to undergraduate nursing students.

The Assessment of the Risk of Unplanned Extubation in an Adult Intensive Care Unit.

Background: In order to plan and implement nursing intervention to reduce the incidence rate of unplanned extubation problem in the intensive care unit (ICU), it is necessary to determine the risk factors of unplanned extubation and the patients under risk.

Aims: This study was undertaken with the aim of evaluating the risk of unplanned extubation of endotracheal tube in adult ICU.

Design: This was a case-control study.

Long-term postpartum health problems in Turkish women: prevalence and associations with self-rated health.

Objective: To examine the frequency of physical and emotional health problems associated with labor and their relationship with self-rated health measures.

Methods: Four hundred women were enrolled. Data collection was accomplished through the completion of a form on sociodemographic and obstetric characteristics, a questionnaire that measured the self-rated health level as well as physical health problems, and Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale.

Effect of lifestyle interventions of pregnant women on their dietary habits, lifestyle behaviors, and weight gain: a randomized controlled trial.

Background: Although it is known that lifestyle behaviors of pregnant women are closely related to maternal and fetal health, number of data concerning efficacy of intervention on lifestyle during pregnancy is limited. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of lifestyle interventions on improving dietary habits and lifestyle behaviors, ensuring gestational weight gain (GWG) within recommended levels and limiting postpartum weight retention (PWR).

Methods: The study was conducted as a randomized controlled trial in a family health center located in Istanbul, Turkey, between June 2011 and July 2012.

Poorer glycaemic control in type 1 diabetes is associated with reduced self-management and poorer perceived health: a cross-sectional study.

Aims: Many people with type 1 diabetes do not achieve optimal treatment targets despite high patient and professional input. To investigate the reasons underlying suboptimal control we have studied clinical characteristics and self-management behaviours in adults with type 1 diabetes attending a large treatment centre.

Methods: A questionnaire-based enquiry into self-care behaviours of 380 patients with type 1 diabetes (mean age: 48 (±15) years and mean duration of diabetes: 26 (±15) years), linked with validated measures of impact of treatment on perceived health and hypoglycaemia recognition (Insulin Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire; and EuroQoL EQ-5D, Gold score) and retrospective case note review of biomedical parameters.

The effect of relaxation techniques and back massage on pain and anxiety in Turkish total hip or knee arthroplasty patients.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of relaxation techniques and back massage on postoperative pain, anxiety, and vital signs on postoperative days 1-3 in patients who had undergone total hip or knee arthroplasty (THA, TKA). Sixty patients having a THA or TKA were randomly assigned to either a experimental group or a control group. The McGill Pain Questionnaire Short Form (MPQ-SF) and State Anxiety Inventory (SAI) were used to measure pain and anxiety, respectively.

Redesigning an intensive insulin service for patients with type 1 diabetes: a patient consultation exercise.

Context: Providing effective support for patients in using insulin effectively is essential for good diabetes care. For that support to be effective it must reflect and attend to the needs of patients.

Purpose: To explore the perspectives of adult type 1 diabetes patients on their current diabetes care in order to generate ideas for creating a new patient centered intensive insulin clinic.

Evaluation of reproductive health and sexual behaviors of university students: case study from Istanbul.

Background: Young people are affected to a higher extent by early and unprotected sexual relations in Turkey. They do not have healthy sexual attitudes, are ignorant about reproductive health and engage in risky practices and behavior. It is therefore necessary to provide effective and confidential reproductive health services to young people.

Postoperative constipation risk assessment in Turkish orthopedic patients.

This descriptive, correlational study was conducted to describe constipation risk assessment and the affecting factors of constipation risk of patients who have undergone major orthopedic surgery. Data were collected using a patient information form and the Constipation Risk Assessment Scale (CRAS) on the second postoperative day. Data were analyzed using the SPSS version 11.

The effects of personality traits on quality of life.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of women's personality traits and some sociodemographic variables on quality of life (QoL).

Methods: This cross-sectional and correlational study was conducted among 320 Turkish women aged between 45 and 64 years who attended the Menopausal Polyclinic. Data were collected from the Turkish version of the Cervantes Personality Scale and the Turkish version of the Menopause-Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire.

Psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the perception of aggression scale.

The aim of this study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Perception of Aggression Scale. Cross-sectional data were collected by the completion of questionnaires by 350 nursing students from two nursing schools in Istanbul, Turkey. The psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the scale were analysed by using factor analysis (principal component analysis), assessment of internal consistency and reliability, and Spearman's rank correlation coefficients.

Inadequate knowledge levels of Turkish male university students about testicular self-examination.

Introduction: Testicular cancer occurs in men aged between 15-35, accounting for 1% of all male cancers. The most common symptom is a painless swelling in the early period, so it is important for individuals to be conscious about and perform testicular self-examination. The aim of this study was to determine the knowledge and performance of testicular self-examination (TSE) in male university students.

Nursing activities in intensive care units in Turkey.

This cross-sectional study was conducted to determine applications practiced by nurses working in intensive care units of various institutions in Turkey. The research setting was neurosurgery, surgery, coronary and general intensive care units. The population of the study comprised nurses working in intensive care units, which were under the scope of this study, and these nurses' functions were studied.
