Background: The goal of this study was to assess psychosocial functioning in older patients with bipolar I disorder compared with healthy subjects and to identify the psychopathological factors associated with poor functioning in patients.
Methods: We recruited 68 euthymic patients with bipolar I disorder from the outpatient unit and 89 healthy controls who were older than 50 years of age. In addition to clinical variables, we used other standardized measures, including the Young Mania Rating Scale, the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, the Functional Assessment Short Test, and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment.

Objective: Our goal was to use three dimensional (3D) strain analysis to evaluate myocardial function and ascending aorta elasticity changes in juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM).
Methods: Between 2019 and 2021, 23 JDM patients and 20 healthy volunteers participated. Both groups underwent 2D and 3D strain analysis, assessing aortic stiffness using aortic distensibility, stiffness index, strain, and elastic modulus.

Anatomic syndesmosis reduction is necessary to restore ankle biomechanics and prevent poor clinical outcomes, but malreduction can be encountered frequently since the ideal fixation angle varies between patients and fixation levels. This study aimed to validate the angle bisector method to reveal whether it provides an accurate syndesmotic fixation angle that is patient- and level-specific. Lower extremity CT angiography of 50 consecutive patients (25 male, 25 female) without evident ankle pathology were evaluated.

Background: The bibliometric studies in the field of orthopaedics have gained popularity since they can determine the characteristics and research trends of most influential papers in specific subjects. This study aimed to evaluate the 50 most-cited articles related to hallux rigidus, and analyze possible factors associated with increased citation counts.
Methods: The available literature about hallux rigidus on Web of Science database until January 2021 were analyzed and the 50 most-cited articles were determined.

Background: Juvenile dermatomyositis associated interstitial lung disease, rarely seen in pediatric age groups, has adverse effects on survival. Anti-melanoma differentiation associated gene 5, one of the identified autoantibodies in juvenile dermatomyositis, preferentially affects the lung tissue and may cause rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease. It is a major cause of mortality in juvenile dermatomyositis.

Breast cancer (BC) has a high incidence rate among women worldwide, and the mechanisms and etiology of this disease are not yet fully understood. The peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARgamma), a nuclear hormone receptor that plays important roles in energy metabolism and cellular differentiation, is also suggested to be effective in cancer development. However, the results of studies investigating the cancer association with PPARgamma are inconsistent, creating a need for further investigation of the effects of this transcription factor on BC risk.

Substance abuse such as opioids, cannabis, and alcohol causes activation on the immune system and the release of reactive oxygen species (ROS) into the blood and serum. These substances cause an effect on oxidant and antioxidant status in patients with substance abuse. Mainly, wide-open to the ROS are lipids and proteins included blood, which suffers peroxidation.

The treatment of chronic migraine headache is quite challenging and new alternatives are still being explored for its management. Onabotulinum toxin A (BoNT-A) applied into extracranial muscles has been shown to inhibit the release of acetylcholine and local nociceptive peptides at the sensory nerve endings. As the highest concentration of extracranial pain fibers are located at/nearby the sutures, extracranial applications of BoTN-A are suggested to be performed to sutures rather than into the head and neck muscles in the treatment of chronic migraine.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings of optic pathway glioma (OPG) patients (sporadic or secondary to neurofibromatosis type 1, NF1) with NF1 without OPG patients and healthy controls.
Methods: This was a prospective, case-control study in which 27 patients (13 with OPGs and 14 with NF1 without OPGs) and 13 control subjects were included. The retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, macular thickness, and ganglion cell layer-inner plexiform layer (GCL-IPL) thickness findings measured using OCT and the results were compared between the groups.

A quarter of patients with clinical N1 (cN1) non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) based on positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) imaging have occult mediastinal nodal involvement (N2 disease). In a prospective study, endosonography alone had an unsatisfactory sensitivity (38%) in detecting N2 disease. The current prospective multicentre trial investigated the sensitivity of preoperative mediastinal staging by video-assisted mediastinoscopy (VAM) or VAM-lymphadenectomy (VAMLA).
