Article Synopsis
  • Patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) often have antibodies against aquaporin-4 (AQP4), making MRI monitoring critical for understanding the disease's progression.
  • A retrospective study involved MRI data from 525 AQP4-IgG-seropositive NMOSD patients across 11 countries, focusing on the types and locations of lesions in the central nervous system.
  • Results showed a high prevalence of hyperintense lesions in the brain and significant patterns of myelitis in the spinal cord, emphasizing the importance of MRI in tracking this condition.

Background: We aimed to evaluate the features of primary membranous nephropathy (MNP) in Turkish people.

Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of patients with biopsy-proven primary MNP. We obtained the data collected between 2009 and 2019 in the primary glomerulonephritis registry of the Turkish Society of Nephrology Glomerular Diseases Study Group (TSN-GOLD).

Microbial composition of Kombucha determined using amplicon sequencing and shotgun metagenomics.

J Food Sci

February 2020

Molecular Biology and Genetics Dept., Faculty of Science, Istanbul Univ., 34134, Istanbul, Turkey.

Kombucha, a fermented tea generated from the co-culture of yeasts and bacteria, has gained worldwide popularity in recent years due to its potential benefits to human health. As a result, many studies have attempted to characterize both its biochemical properties and microbial composition. Here, we have applied a combination of whole metagenome sequencing (WMS) and amplicon (16S rRNA and Internal Transcribed Spacer 1 [ITS1]) sequencing to investigate the microbial communities of homemade Kombucha fermentations from day 3 to day 15.

Background And Aims: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a common genetic disease of high-level cholesterol leading to premature atherosclerosis. One of the key aspects to overcome FH burden is the generation of large-scale reliable data in terms of registries. This manuscript underlines the important results of nation-wide Turkish FH registries (A-HIT1 and A-HIT2).

Coating of sea bream fillets with thymol loaded chitosan based electrospun nanofibers (TLCN) and chitosan based nanafibers (CN) has been presented a novel approach to delay chemical deterioration. We assessed CN and TLCN with respect of scanting of total volatile basic nitrogen (TVBN), trimethylamine (TMA), thiobarbituric acid (TBA) deterioration during cold storage condition. Electrospinning process was applied to obtain TLCN and CN.

[Efficacy of praziquantel injectable solution against feline and canine tapeworms.].

Turkiye Parazitol Derg

March 2012

Istanbul Univ Veteriner Fakültesi, Parazitoloji Anabilim Dali, Türkiye.

Praziquantel, which has been used in the treatment and control of canine and feline tapeworm infections for about 35 years, has not been tested against these parasites for a long period in Turkey. This study was performed to evaluate the current efficacy of praziquantel against dog and cat tapeworms. Praziquantel injectable solution was administered to 26 dogs (14 of them were infected with Dipylidium caninum, 8 with Taenia spp and 2 with Echinococcus granulosus, 2 with both Dipylidium caninum and Taenia spp) and 2 cats (infected with Joyeuxiella pasqualei) subcutaneously at a dose of 0.

Neuromuscular effects of cisatracurium in morbidly obese patients.

Middle East J Anaesthesiol

February 2008

Dept. of Anesthesia, Istanbul Univ, Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine, 34303 Kocamustafapasa, Istanbul, Turkey.

Obesity is associated with significant changes in body composition and function that may alter the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of various drugs. In this study, we investigated the neuromuscular effects of cisatracurium in morbidly obese as compared to control group of normal body weight patients. In the morbidly obese group (n = 20), corrected weight was used to calculate the drug doses.

An analysis of global asymptotic stability of delayed cellular neural networks.

IEEE Trans Neural Netw

October 2012

Dept. of Electron., Istanbul Univ., Turkey.

In this paper, a new sufficient condition is given for the uniqueness and global asymptotic stability of the equilibrium point for delayed cellular neural networks (DCNNs). This condition imposes constraints on the feedback and delayed feedback matrices of a DCNN independently of the delay parameter. This result is also compared with the previous results derived in the literature.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the rate, timing, the incidence of complications of percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy (PDT) and its effects by on nosocomial pneumonia.

Methods: The study is a retrospective analysis of 104 patients (56 males, 48 females) > or = 18 years (54 +/- 19) who had undergone a PDT for respiratory failure during the five years 1998-2003.

Results: Among 238 patients requiring mechanical ventilation > or = 48 hours, 104 (43.
