Department of Dermatology, Bakirkoy Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital, University of Health Sciences, Istanbul, Turkey.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to explore the causes and characteristics of chronic urticaria (CU) in children under 18, finding that a majority of participants were aged 12 or older.
  • - Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) was the most common type, affecting 75% of the participants, while 18.5% also experienced angioedema; however, 56.5% had no identifiable cause for their urticaria.

Background: The intracranial fluid spaces (IFS), also known as "the extra-axial spaces," consist of the superficial cerebral sulci, the Sylvian fissures, the basal cisterns, the third ventricle, the fourth ventricle, and the two lateral ventricles. In diseases such as schizophrenia, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and especially hydrocephalus, IFS' enlargements are observed.

Objective: Our study aimed to determine the mean values of IFS measurements in patients with schizophrenia and compare them with healthy controls.

The Effect of Platelet and Mean Platelet Volume Levels on Standard-dose Methylprednisolone Treatment Response in Primary Immune Thrombocytopenia.

Medeni Med J

March 2023

University of Health Sciences Turkey, Istanbul Sultan 2. Abdulhamid Han Training and Research Hospital, Clinic of Internal Medicine, Department of Hematology, Istanbul, Turkey.

Objective: Standard-dose methyl-prednisolone (methyl-Pd) is generally preferred as the first-line treatment in immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) unless there is an urgent indication to increase the platelet value. A significant proportion of patients (around 40%) does not benefit from this treatment. This study investigated whether pretreatment platelet level and other hemogram indices in patients with ITP patients can be used to predict early response to standard-dose methyl-Pd treatment.

Background: There are various distal locking options for the repair of tibia distal diametaphyseal fractures with intramedullary nails. There is no consensus about the superiority of any of these distal locking options. In our study, comparing nails with distal bolt locking screw (DSBLS) and conventional nails; we aimed to compare the clinical and radiological results of intramedullary nail models in fixing tibial distal diametaphyseal fractures.

Objective: Inflammation plays an important role in the initiation of postoperative atrial fibrillation (PoAF) in individuals undergoing cardiac surgery, Thus, this study aimed to investigate the predictive value of the systemic immune inflammation index (SII) to develop PoAF in such patients.

Methods: In total, 391 consecutive patients undergoing an isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) were retrospectively analyzed. PoAF was defined according to the current guideline.

Aim: To investigate the neuropathic pain (NP) component in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and to assess the relations between NP and disease characteristics.

Methods: Eighty participants were included in this study. Demographic properties, duration of disease, laboratory values and clinical assessments (visual analog scale [VAS], Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index [BASDAI], Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index [BASFI], Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Metrology Index [BASMI], Short Form [SF]-36 questionnaire, Beck Depression Inventory [BDI]) were recorded.

This study aims to determine the efficacy of omalizumab, a humanized monoclonal anti-immunoglobulin E antibody, in patients with chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) refractory to conventional therapy, together with the evaluation of serum CRP levels. All the patients with a diagnosis of CSU who were continuously treated with omalizumab (300 mg/mo) for at least 3 months between June 2016 and July 2019 were included in this study. Urticaria activity score (UAS-7) was used for assessment of disease activity.
