Salvage irreversible electroporation for locally recurrent prostate cancer after definitive radiotherapy: a systematic review.

Background: To systematically evaluate the available evidence regarding the effect of salvage irreversible electroporation (IRE) in patients with local recurrent prostate cancer (PCa) after definitive radiotherapy (RT).

Methods: A systematic search was conducted in the electronic databases PubMed-MEDLINE and the Web of Science. The following search terms were used: "irreversible electroporation AND recurrent prostate cancer", ''salvage irreversible electroporation AND prostate cancer AND radiation", "nanoknife AND recurrent prostate cancer", and ''salvage irreversible electroporation AND prostate cancer" by combining PICO (population, intervention, comparison, and outcome) terms.

Ethical considerations on the use of big Data and Artificial Intelligence in kidney research from the ERA ethics committee.

In the current paper, we will focus on requirements to ensure big data can advance the outcomes of our patients suffering from kidney disease. The associated ethical question is whether and how we as a nephrology community can and should encourage the collection of big data of our patients. We identify some ethical reflections on the use of big data, and their importance and relevance.

Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism as a cause of NOA and its treatment.

Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (HH) represents a relatively rare cause of nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA), but its knowledge is crucial for the clinical andrologists, as it represents a condition that can be corrected with medical therapy in 3 quarters of cases. There are forms of congenital HH, whether or not associated with an absent sense of smell (anosmic HH or Kallmann syndrome, and normosmic HH, respectively), and forms of acquired HH. In congenital HH, complete absence of pubertal development is characteristic.

Does combination of urodynamic reduced bladder capacity and detrusor overactivity warrant spinal cord magnetic resonance imaging in children with persistan enuresis: a prospective study.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the necessity of spinal cord magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in children with persistent enuresis, specifically those presenting with urodynamically reduced bladder capacity (RBC) and detrusor overactivity (DO), in comparison to children with normal urodynamic findings.

Methods: We evaluated 586 children admitted for bedwetting, all of whom received urotherapy and/or pharmacotherapy. Persistent enuresis, lasting for over one year, was identified in 134 patients who were subsequently re-evaluated for occult neurological conditions and recommended for urodynamic studies (UDS).

Ethics in humanitarian settings-relevance and consequences for dialysis and kidney care.

With the increasing frequency and severity of disasters and the increasing number of patients living with kidney disease, on dialysis and with transplants around the world, the need for kidney care in humanitarian settings is increasing. Almost all humanitarian emergencies pose a threat to kidney health because all treatments are highly susceptible to interruption, and interruption can be deadly. Providing support for people requiring dialysis in humanitarian settings can be complex and is associated with many trade-offs.

Validity and Diagnostic Ability of Pancreatic Exocrine Insufficiency Questionnaire in Turkish Patients.

Pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (PEI) is a prevalent disease that is often underdiagnosed and undertreated, leading to resulting in diminished health-related quality of life. The PEI questionnaire (PEI-Q), a patient-reported outcome questionnaire developed to diagnose and evaluate PEI, is available only in English. The study aimed to provide a Turkish translation of PEI-Q and validate its reliability and diagnostic performance in a Turkish-speaking population with PEI.

Residual gait deviations in children treated by medial open reduction for developmental dysplasia of the hip at long-term follow-up: a comparison with healthy controls.

Purpose: This study aimed to analyze and compare gait patterns and deviations at long-term follow-up in children who received medial open reduction (MOR) before 18 months for unilateral or bilateral hip developmental dysplasia (DDH).

Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted on children who underwent MOR. The study population was divided into two groups: the unilateral group, including unilateral (five children with unilateral) and bilateral (five children with bilateral DDH).

Real-world experience with the new pulsed solid-state Thulium: YAG laser (Thulio) for endoscopic enucleation of the prostate.

Purpose: The solid-state Thulium laser (Tm: YAG) is a novel alternative to the widely used Holmium laser for endoscopic enucleation of the prostate (EEP) due to its relatively high peak power. The aim of this study was to examine the efficacy and safety of a new pulsed Tm: YAG laser in its first application in humans.

Methods: Data were retrospectively collected for the first 103 patients who underwent EEP with a new pulsed solid-state Tm: YAG laser (Thulio, Dornier MedTech Systems GmbH, Weßling, Germany).

Functional Ankle Reconstruction Technique After Total Calcanectomy.

Background: Although comminuted fractures, osteomyelitis, large skin ulcers, and malignant tumors are rarely seen in the calcaneus, it is a problematic region to treat because it is not an actual compartment and has insufficient blood supply. Few foot and ankle surgeons would recommend total calcanectomy in various cases of malignant tumors, comminuted fractures, ulcerations of the heel often seen in diabetic patients, and chronic osteomyelitis. After calcanectomy, if functional reconstruction is not performed, the patient will experience loss of function, pain, wound problems, talonavicular dislocations, and additional surgical interventions.

Disaster preparedness for people with kidney disease and kidney healthcare providers.

Purpose Of Review: Man-made and natural disasters become more frequent and provoke significant morbidity and mortality, particularly among vulnerable people such as patients with underlying kidney diseases. This review summarizes strategies to minimize the risks associated with mass disasters among kidney healthcare providers and patients affected by kidney disease.

Recent Findings: Considering patients, in advance displacement or evacuation are the only options to avoid harmful consequences of predictable disasters such as hurricanes.

Determinants of anemia among pregnant women attending a tertiary hospital, Mogadishu, Somalia: unmatched case-control study.

Objective: The objective of this study was to identify the factors associated with anemia among pregnant women attending a tertiary referral hospital in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Methods: An unmatched case-control study was conducted on pregnant women who visited the antenatal clinics of a tertiary referral hospital between March and July 2021. The study recruited pregnant women who had a hemoglobin level of <11 g/dL into the anemic group, while those with hemoglobin levels ≥11 g/dL were included in the non-anemic group.

A new configuration of lateral-pin fixation for pediatric supracondylar humeral fracture: A biomechanical analysis.

Objective: The aim of this study was to biomechanically compare a new lateral-pinning technique, in which pins engage the medial and lateral columns of the distal humerus in a divergent configuration in both the axial and sagittal planes instead of the coronal plane, with the cross-pin, and with 2 and 3 coronally divergent lateral-pin techniques in a synthetic humerus model of supracondylar humerus fractures.

Methods: Thirty-six identical synthetic models of the humerus simulating a standardized supracondylar humerus fracture were included in this study. They were divided into 4 groups based on the pin configuration of fixation: the new 3-lateral pin-fixation technique (group A), 2 crossed pins (group B), 3 divergent lateral pins (group C), and 2 divergent lateral pins (group D).

Association of Serum Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL-6) Levels and Disease Severity in Patients Hospitalized with COVID-19.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL-6) as a possible biomarker in determining disease severity in patients with moderate and severe COVID-19.

Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional study included moderate or severe COVID-19 patients; critically ill patients who were followed up in the intensive care unit were not included. KL-6 level and routine laboratory test measurements were performed on the first day of admission.

Reactive axillary lymph nodes after COVID-19 mRNA vaccination: comparison of mRNA vs. attenuated whole-virus vaccines.

Objective: To compare the incidence and natural course of reactive axillary lymph nodes (RAL) between mRNA and attenuated whole-virus vaccines using Deauville criteria.

Methods: In this multi-institutional PET-CT study comprising multiple vaccine types (Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty, Moderna/Spikevax, Sinovac/CoronaVac and Janssen vaccines), we evaluated the incidence and natural course of RAL in a large cohort of oncological patients utilizing a standardized Deauville scaling system (n=522; 293 Female, Deauville 3-5 positive for RAL). Univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted to evaluate the predictive value of clinical parameters (absolute neutrophil count [ANC], platelets, age, sex, tumor type, and vaccine-to-PET interval) for PET positivity.

Long-term and real-world safety and efficacy of retroviral gene therapy for adenosine deaminase deficiency.

Adenosine deaminase (ADA) deficiency leads to severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID). Previous clinical trials showed that autologous CD34 cell gene therapy (GT) following busulfan reduced-intensity conditioning is a promising therapeutic approach for ADA-SCID, but long-term data are warranted. Here we report an analysis on long-term safety and efficacy data of 43 patients with ADA-SCID who received retroviral ex vivo bone marrow-derived hematopoietic stem cell GT.

We measure dual single nucleus RNA expression and chromatin accessibility, DNA methylation, and H3K27ac, H3K4me1, H3K4me3, and H3K27me3 histone modifications to decipher the chromatin landscape and gene regulation of the kidney in reference and adaptive injury states.

Biomechanical Comparison of Uniplanar versus Biplanar Lateral Opening-wedge Distal Femoral Osteotomy Techniques in Terms of Risk for Medial Hinge Fracture.

The effect of osteotomy type on the initial stiffness of the bone-implant construct in lateral opening-wedge distal femoral osteotomy (LOWDFO) using a uniplanar compared with a biplanar technique has been investigated. However, no study has explored the biomechanical risk factors for medial hinge fracture. This study aimed to compare the biomechanical strength of uniplanar versus biplanar LOWDFO regarding the risk for medial hinge fracture during gap opening.

Arthroscopic Dorsal Ligamentocapsulodesis in the Treatment of Occult Dorsal Wrist Ganglion Cysts Associated with Scapholunate Instability: Surgical Technique and Preliminary Clinical Results.

This study aimed to evaluate our preliminary results and experience with the arthroscopic dorsal ligamentocapsulodesis in managing occult dorsal wrist ganglion cysts (ODGCs) associated with scapholunate (SL) instability. All patients who underwent arthroscopic dorsal ligamentocapsulodesis due to an ODGC with concomitant SL ligament tear were retrospectively reviewed. In addition to demographic data and length of follow-up, outcomes data that included range of motion, grip strength, modified Mayo wrist score (MMWS), complications and radiographs were collected.
