Background: We aimed to evaluate the effects of minimal enteral nutrition (MEN) on mesenteric blood flow and oxygenation with Doppler USG and Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) during therapeutic hypothermia (TH) in babies with HIE.

Methods: This prospective, randomized-controlled study was composed of infants receiving MEN (study group, n = 30) and infants who were not fed (control group, n = 30) during hypothermia. Infants were monitored continuously with NIRS and mesenteric blood flow velocities were measured with Doppler USG before and after feeding.

In this study, we aimed to investigate the prognostic effect of the classifications made according to the stage of the largest lesion diameter (T-max stage) and of the sum of the longest diameters of the lesions (T-sum stage), the largest area stage (A-max stage), the sum of the largest areas (A-sum stage), the highest volume stage (V-max stage), the sum of the highest volume (V-sum stage) on disease-free survival, and overall survival (OS) in multifocal/multicentric breast cancers (MMBCs) and unifocal breast cancers (UBCs). The study included a total of 769 patients either with MMBC (n = 128) or UBC (n = 641) who underwent surgery between 2006 and 2015. In the analysis, the median age of 769 patients was 53.

Isocitrate Dehydrogenase Inhibitors in Glioma: From Bench to Bedside.

Pharmaceuticals (Basel)

May 2024

Department of Medical Oncology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN 55905, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • IDH-mutant gliomas are aggressive brain tumors primarily impacting adults under 55, and standard treatments often fail to prevent recurrence.
  • The IDH mutation drives cancer growth through the oncometabolite 2-hydroxyglutarate, making it a promising target for new therapies.
  • Recent trials of IDH inhibitors, like vorasidenib, show potential for treating low-grade gliomas, but further research is needed to optimize treatment strategies.

Objective: The aim of this study is to present the expressions of Calreticulin (CALR) and Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) in high-grade gliomas and to further show the relation between the levels of these molecules and Ki-67 index, presence of Isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH)-1 mutation, and tumor grade.

Patients And Methods: A total of 43 patients who underwent surgical resection due to high-grade gliomas (HGG) (grades III and IV) were included. The control group comprised 27 people who showed no gross pathology in the brain during the autopsy procedures.

Objective: Numerous factors affect abductor strength after Total hip arthroplasty (THA), including surgical technique, prosthesis type, postoperative rehabilitation program, and preoperative patient condition. We prospectively investigated the effects of the modified Hardinge approach on hip muscle strength, which was evaluated using the isokinetic test, functional results, and gait function of patients who underwent primary THA.

Methods: The hip muscles strength were measured using an isokinetic dynamometer.

Objective: The optimal glycemic control marker before total hip or knee arthroplasty remains inconclusive. Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is widely used, while fructosamine may be valuable for predicting periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Fructosamine levels can be affected by serum albumin levels; albumin-corrected fructosamine (AlbF) can be calculated to overcome this issue.

This study explores the machine learning-based assessment of predisposition to colorectal cancer based on single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP). Such a computational approach may be used as a risk indicator and an auxiliary diagnosis method that complements the traditional methods such as biopsy and CT scan. Moreover, it may be used to develop a low-cost screening test for the early detection of colorectal cancers to improve public health.
