Aim: To investigate the supplementation of alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) at the molecular level to determine its effect on primary cell cultures prepared from human intervertebral disc (IVD) tissue in an in vitro environment.

Material And Methods: Human primary cell cultures were prepared from IVD tissue resected during surgery. While cell cultures without ALA supplementation formed the control group, those with ALA supplementation formed the study group.

Objective: Non-diphtheriae Corynebacterium strains have been recognized as important pathogens after decades of confusion regarding their microbiological classification and clinical significance. The aim of this study was to identify non-diphtheriae Corynebacterium strains and the prevalence of biofilm formation and antimicrobial resistance.

Method: In total, 126 non-diphtheriae Corynebacterium strains were isolated from blood cultures of inpatients with bacteremia in our hospital between January 2015 and January 2020.

A comparison of adductor canal block before and after thigh tourniquet during knee arthroscopy: a randomized, blinded study.

Background: Adductor canal block (ACB) provides effective analgesia after arthroscopic knee surgery. However, there is insufficient data regarding whether ACB should be performed before or after inflation of a thigh tourniquet. We aimed to investigate the efficacy of ACB performed before and after placement of a thigh tourniquet and evaluate associated quadriceps motor weakness.

Background/aims: This study aimed to evaluate the real-life efficacy and tolerability of direct-acting antiviral treatments for patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) with/without cirrhosis in the Turkish population.

Material And Methods: A total of 4,352 patients with CHC from 36 different institutions in Turkey were enrolled. They received ledipasvir (LDV) and sofosbuvir (SOF)±ribavirin (RBV) orombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir±dasabuvir (PrOD)±RBV for 12 or 24 weeks.

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is a non-invasive neuromodulation technique which is increasingly used for cognitive impairment in Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Although rTMS has been shown to modify Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) and oxidative stress levels in many neurological and psychiatric diseases, there is still no study evaluating the relationship between memory performance, BDNF, oxidative stress, and resting brain connectivity following rTMS in Alzheimer's patients. Furthermore, there are increasing clinical data showing that the stimulation of strategic brain regions may lead to more robust improvements in memory functions compared to conventional rTMS.

Rituximab treatment for difficult-to-treat nephrotic syndrome in children: a multicenter, retrospective study.

Background/aim: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of rituximab in children with difficult-to-treat nephrotic syndrome, considering the type of disease (steroid-sensitive or –resistant) and the dosing regimen.

Materials And Methods: This multicenter retrospective study enrolled children with difficult-to-treat nephrotic syndrome on rituximab treatment from 13 centers. The patients were classified based on low (single dose of 375 mg/m2) or high (2-4 doses of 375 mg/m2) initial dose of rituximab and the steroid response.

Patellar sleeve fracture is a form of injury in which small osseous fragments avulsed with periosteum and cartilage. 15-year-old male patient, playing in school football team, apllied to our clinic with a history of previously missed patellar superior pole sleeve avulsion fracture. Care must be taken in order not to miss the patellar superior pole sleeve fractures, which are very rare in children.

Purpose: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most common bacterial infection among infectious complications in kidney transplant recipients (KTR). After transplantation, infections can result from surgical complications, donor-derived infections, pre-existing recipient infections, and nosocomial infections. Post-transplant infection is still a major cause of morbidity, mortality, graft dysfunction and rejection.

Development of a prospective data registry system for retrograde intrarenal surgery in renal stones: Turkish Academy of Urology Prospective Study Group (ACUP study).

Objective: We aimed to report the development of a prospective data registry by generating a retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS)-specific electronic case report form (eCRF), which can be used by multiple centers in Turkey.

Material And Methods: The Stone Disease Study Group of Turkish Urology Academy developed a template for the necessary data to be collected, which was then implemented within a dedicated server. Urologists from different universities, research and training centers, and private hospitals were invited to participate in this data registry.
