Comparison of AIMS65 and Glasgow Blatchford scores in predicting mortality in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

Objective: Several mortality prediction scores are available for patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding who visited the emergency department; however, most of the available scores include endoscopic data. Endoscopy is difficult or impossible to access for many emergencies departments worldwide. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the performance of the albumin, INR, alteration in mental status, systolic blood pressure and age 65 score and the Glasgow-Blatchford score in predicting mortality in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding who visited the emergency department and for which endoscopic data were not required.

Renal Vascular and Ureteral Anatomic Variations in 1859 Potential Living Renal Donors.

Background: Renal vascular and ureteral anomalies detected by preoperative computed tomography angiography (CTA) are important for determining the side of the donor nephrectomy and the optimal surgical technique. In the present study, we aimed to examine the renal vascular and ureteral variations in living kidney donor candidates.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was made of 1859 patients who were examined in our clinic as donor nephrectomy candidates between November 2008 and December 2019.

The Effect of Adipose-Derived Stromal Vascular Fraction Cells to Abdominal Wall Fascia Defects in Rats: An Experimental Study.

Objective: Various synthetic and biological meshes have been developed to reduce recurrence and complications in ventral incisional hernia repairs. Adipose tissue is a rich reserve for mesenchymal stromal cells. In the present study we aimed to examine the effects of adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (AD-MSCs) on abdominal incisional hernia repairs in rats.

Thoracic Endometriosis: A Review Comparing 480 Patients Based on Catamenial and Noncatamenial Symptoms.

Objective: This review aimed to categorize thoracic endometriosis syndrome (TES) according to whether the presenting symptoms were catamenial and to evaluate whether such a categorization enables a better management strategy.

Efficacy and safety of trastuzumab emtansine in older patients with HER2-positive advanced breast cancer: a real-world study.

Introduction: Ado-trastuzumab emtansine (T-DM1) is an antibody-drug conjugate and its survival advantage has been shown in advanced human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer. However, clinical trials underrepresent patients ⩾65 years of age, leading to a lack of information in this population. We analyzed the real-world outcomes of older women who were treated with T-DM1 therapy.

Measurement of hiatal surface area and other hiatus oesophageal diameters at computed tomography imaging in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease and its relationship with hiatal hernia.

Background: The oesophageal hiatus is a long and oblique opening in the diaphragm where the thoracic section of the oesophagus passes into the abdomen. Enlarged hiatal surface and insufficiency are considered to be associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and hiatal hernia (HH). In this study, we aimed to retrospectively evaluate the relationship and the presence of GERD with HH by performing hiatal surface area (HSA) and other hiatal measurements at the thorax and abdominal computed tomography (CT) images in cases without any intra-abdominal or oesophageal surgery history.

Molecular Diagnosis of Monogenic Diabetes and Their Clinical/Laboratory Features in Turkish Children.

Objective: Monogenic diabetes is a heterogeneous disease that causes functional problems in pancreatic beta cells and hyperglycemia. The aim of this study was to determine the clinical and laboratory features, the admission characteristics and distribution of monogenic form of diabetes in childhood in Turkey.

Methods: Patients aged 0-18 years, who were molecularly diagnosed with monogenic diabetes, and consented to participate, were included in the study.

Introduction: The collateral pathways between the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) and inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) play an important role in colonic surgery. The most well-known are the Drummond marginal artery and Riolan's arch. The Moskowitz artery, also known as the meandering mesenteric artery, is a lesser-known collateral pathway and represents another link between SMA and IMA.

Aim: This study aims to evaluate the disability, insight and self-care agency of schizophrenia patients.

Design And Method: This descriptive study was conducted with 100 patients in remission who had a diagnosis of schizophrenia at community mental health centers.

Results: The schizophrenia patients had poor insight and moderate self-care agency.

Pericardial Type 1 Parathyromatosis: A very rare cause of primary hyperparathyroidism.

Background: Parathyromatosis is a rare clinical condition where hyperfunctioning parathyroid tissue is scattered in the neck and the mediastinum. It is difficult to diagnose and manage due to recurrent or persistent hyperparathyroidism.

Case Report: We present a peculiar case of hyperparathyroidism as the parathyroid tissue was in unusual location.

The effectiveness of ethanol ablation in the treatment of thyroglossal duct cysts in adult cases and evaluation with cosmetic scoring.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate thyroglossal duct cyst (TGDC) volumes before and after treatment with ultrasound (US) in patients who underwent ethanol ablation (EA). Besides, the usability of cosmetic scoring in TGDC cases was investigated by comparing cosmetic scores pre-treatment and after EA.

Materials And Methods: 28 TGDC cases who had EA in one session and had complete US data and cosmetic scores were included in the study.

The impact of celiac disease and duration of gluten free diet on anterior and posterior ocular structures: Ocular imaging based study.

Purpose: To evaluate the eyes of adult celiac disease (CD) patients and investigate the association between these ocular parameters with celiac specific antibodies and duration of gluten free diet (GFD).

Methods: This cross-sectional study included 72 eyes of 36 CD patients (18-51 years of age) and 70 eyes of 35 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. In addition to a complete ophthalmologic examination, all patients were scanned by a Scheimpflug camera, specular microscopy and spectral domain optical coherence tomography.

Comparison of the Effectiveness of Ethanol and Radiofrequency Ablation in the Treatment of Thyroid Nodules and Their Effects on Cosmetic Scoring.

Purpose: In this study, we aimed to retrospectively evaluate the volumes and cosmetic scores of mixed-type and spongy-type thyroid nodules treated with ethanol and radiofrequency (RF) ablation before and after treatment. In addition, the safety and efficacy of ethanol and RF ablation treatment methods were compared.

Methods: In the radiology department, mixed-type and spongy-type benign thyroid nodules undergoing ethanol and RF ablation between February 2015 and March 2020 were evaluated retrospectively.

Should Surgeons Evaluate the Anatomy of Drummond Marginal Artery and Riolan's Arch Preoperatively?

Introduction: The Drummond marginal artery and the Riolan's arch are important links between the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) and inferior mesenteric artery (IMA), which provide collateral flow in case of arterial occlusion or significant stenosis. The Riolan's arch is important in colorectal surgery since it allows for vascularization of the descending colon by the SMA after ligation of the IMA at its origin, especially in cancer patients. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the presence of the Drummond marginal artery and the Riolan's arch.
