Does Ophthalmology Need Philosophy?

Although ophthalmology has made significant progress and awareness about eye care and the accessibility of health technology has increased, there are still aspects that might be improved. One of the ways to achieve improvement is philosophical investigation of some reasoning and behavior styles in ophthalmology. Philosophy means love of wisdom, and the philosophical approach can contribute to increasing the wisdom of ophthalmologists.

Secondary epiretinal membrane following rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.

Purpose: To investigate the outcomes of removal of the secondary epiretinal membrane (ERM) after rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) repair.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective cese series study. Eighteen consecutive patients (18 eyes) who underwent secondary ERM removal after successful RRD repair were reviewed.

Retinal microvasculature in the remission period of Behcet's uveitis.

Purpose: To evaluate retinal microvasculature and blood flow during Behcet's uveitis (BU) remission via optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A), and compare the results with those from healthy eyes.

Methods: A total of 35 eyes of 35 BU patients presenting during the remission period of BU involving the posterior segment were enrolled, as were 30 normal eyes of 30 age and sex-matched healthy participants. Optical coherence tomography angiograms were analyzed.

Multimodal imaging of a choroidal granuloma as a first sign of tuberculosis.

Choroidal granuloma is rarely seen as the first sign of tuberculosis(TB). Here we report a case of a 34-year old male with a choroidal mass which was associated with serous retinal detachment on EDI-OCT and the "contact sign" between the neurosensory retina and the retinal pigment epithelium. We analysed the macular microvascular features of tuberculoma with Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography(OCTA).

Can Rotational Thromboelastometry be a New Predictive Tool for Retinal Vein Occlusion Development?

Purpose: To evaluate clotting dynamics by a new tool called rotational tromboelastometry (ROTEM) in retinal vein occlusion.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-six patients who were diagnosed with retinal vein occlusion and 43 age and sex matched healthy controls were included in this study. Diabetes and use of anticoagulant therapy were exclusion criteria.
