Ultrasound Q

June 2017

*Radiology Department, Istanbul Bakirkoy Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital; †Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul University; ‡Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, Yeditepe University; and §Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul University, Istanbul, Turkey.

Our goal was to evaluate the role of ultrasound (US) imaging in an experimental 2-hit steatofibrosis rat model. Nineteen female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 2 groups: control group (n = 6) and high-fat diet carbontetrachloride (HFD-CCl4) group (n = 13) that was fed with HFD for 14 weeks. Ultrasound was performed to evaluate liver steatosis.

We describe a complex congenital pelvic AVM with multiple feeding arteries arising from the side branches of the right internal iliac artery and a single draining vein in a male patient. Concomitant transarterial and transvenous embolization with a new liquid embolic agent Squid-12 and metallic coils enabled a complete embolization at a single session. Squid-12 is composed of ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymers and its lower viscosity makes it a promising agent for the treatment of AVMs.
