Background: People share health-related experiences and treatments, such as for insomnia, in digital communities. Natural language processing tools can be leveraged to understand the terms used in digital spaces to discuss insomnia and insomnia treatments.

Objective: The aim of this study is to summarize and chart trends of insomnia treatment terms on a digital insomnia message board.

Acute Stress Symptoms-Adult Scale/National Stressful Events Survey Short Scale (NSESSS): Assessing the immediate aftermath of the october 7 attacks on an internally displaced population.

Objective: The Adult Scale/National Stressful Events Survey Short Scale (NSESSS) is an emerging brief screening measure for the severity of Acute Stress Symptoms based on the of acute stress disorder (ASD). Scant information is known about the NSESSS's psychometric properties among different cultures or populations exposed to an ongoing trauma and displacement. Therefore, the present study aimed to (a) assess for the first time the psychometric properties and construct validity of the Hebrew version of NSESSS in an internally displaced population following the massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023; and (b) assess the possible risk and protective predictors of ASD according to sociodemographic characteristics, types of trauma exposure, absence of basic needs, and social support.

Virtual Neonatal Resuscitation Curriculum for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to Improve Out-of-Hospital Newborn Care.

Objectives: Out-of-hospital births are associated with a 2-to 11-fold increased risk of death compared to in-hospital births and are growing. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) clinicians have limited exposure to hospital birth emergencies, and there is no standardized prehospital neonatal resuscitation curriculum. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) guidelines are the standard of care for infants born in the United States but focuses on in-hospital births and is not easily applied to EMS.

Changes in Patient Care Experience After Private Equity Acquisition of US Hospitals.

Importance: Private equity acquisitions of health care facilities have rapidly increased over the past decade. However, little is known about the effects of private equity acquisitions of US hospitals on patient care experience.

Objective: To evaluate whether the acquisition of hospitals by private equity firms was associated with changes in measures of patient-reported experience compared with matched control hospitals from 2008 through 2019.

Microwave therapy for the treatment of resistant plantar warts: a randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial.

Plantar warts, or verrucae plantares, are skin lesions on the soles of the feet caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). These warts are prevalent and affect up to 33% of children and 3.5% of adults.

Integrating CT-based radiomics and clinical features to better predict the prognosis of acute pancreatitis.

Objectives: To develop and validate the performance of CT-based radiomics models for predicting the prognosis of acute pancreatitis.

Methods: All 344 patients (51 ± 15 years, 171 men) in a first episode of acute pancreatitis (AP) were retrospectively enrolled and randomly divided into training (n = 206), validation (n = 69), and test (n = 69) sets with the ratio of 6:2:2. The patients were dichotomized into good and poor prognosis subgroups based on follow-up CT and clinical data.

Animal and vegetal materials of mouse oocytes segregate at first zygotic cleavage: a simple mechanism that makes the 2-cell blastomeres differ reciprocally from the start.

Recent advances in embryology have shown that the sister blastomeres of 2-cell mouse and human embryos differ reciprocally in potency. An open question is whether the blastomeres became different as opposed to originating as different. Here we wanted to test two conflicting models: one proposing that each blastomere contains both animal and vegetal materials in balanced proportions because the plane of first cleavage runs close to the animal-vegetal axis of the fertilized oocyte; and the other model proposing that each blastomere contains variable proportions of animal and vegetal materials because the plane of the first cleavage can vary depending on the topology of fertilization.

Odronextamab monotherapy in R/R DLBCL after progression with CAR T-cell therapy: Primary analysis of the ELM-1 study.

Patients with relapsed/refractory (R/R) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) progressing after chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy (CAR T) have dismal outcomes. The prespecified post-CAR T expansion cohort of the ELM-1 study investigated the efficacy and safety of odronextamab, a CD20×CD3 bispecific antibody, in patients with disease progression after CAR T. Sixty patients received IV odronextamab weekly for 4 cycles followed by maintenance until progression.

Background: Amyloid beta (Aβ) deposition marks an early stage in the progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD), detectable in-vivo years before symptoms emerge and targeted by recently FDA-approved drugs. This has propelled advancements in understanding, measuring, and treating AD, paving the way for disease prevention in those at risk. However, the psychological impact of disclosing Aβ status to cognitively unimpaired individuals remains underexplored.

Biomarkers.

Background: APOE genotype is the most important genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD), but whether it affects the proteins associated with AD risk is unclear. Circulating proteins may reveal biology underlying pathologic processes.

Methods: We evaluated log2 standardized levels of 4979 proteins quantified using modified aptamer technology [SomaScan] in plasma from 2725 participants in the Cardiovascular Health Study who were free of dementia and stroke.

Background: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a recognized risk factor for dementia. This study aimed to pinpoint blood DNA methylation biomarkers for cognitive decline in older adults with T2D by comparing those who developed dementia with those who remained cognitively normal during follow-up METHOD: Illumina Infinium MethylationEPIC microarray was used for the initial 24 couples and Infinium HumanMethylationEPIC microarray version 2.0 for the subsequent 8 couples.

Early-Life Adversity Predicts Markers of Aging-Related Neuroinflammation, Neurodegeneration, and Cognitive Impairment in Women.

Objective: Despite the overwhelming evidence for profound and longstanding effects of early-life stress (ELS) on inflammation, brain structure, and molecular aging, its impact on human brain aging and risk for neurodegenerative disease is poorly understood. We examined the impact of ELS severity in interaction with age on blood-based markers of neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration, brain volumes, and cognitive function in middle-aged women.

Methods: We recruited 179 women (aged 30-60 years) with and without ELS exposure before the onset of puberty.

Background: The identification of novel blood-based biomarkers of small vessel disease of the brain (SVD) may improve pathophysiologic understanding and inform the development of new therapeutic strategies for prevention. We evaluated plasma proteomic associations of white matter fractional anisotropy (WMFA), white matter hyperintensity (WMH) volume, enlarged perivascular space (ePVS) volume, and the presence of microbleeds (MB) on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the population-based Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA).

Methods: Eligible MESA participants had 2941 plasma proteins measured from stored blood samples (collected in 2016-2018) using the antibody-based Olink proteomics platform, and completed brain MRI scans in 2018-2019.

Background: Sleep disorders as a contributing factor to cognitive impairment have spurred growing interest. The advent of digital technology facilitates the collection of comprehensive sleep measures in a home setting. The objective of this study is to examine the association between digital sleep measures and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA).

Postoperative Outcomes in Condylar Hyperplasia: Proportional Condylectomy Versus Orthognathic Surgery.

The management of patients with facial asymmetry caused by condylar hyperplasia remains a subject of ongoing debate. This study compared active patients with unilateral condylar hyperplasia (UCH) who underwent proportional condylectomy with ceased patients with UCH who underwent orthognathic surgery, evaluating esthetics, function, and satisfaction. The retrospective study included 2 groups: group A, with 15 active patients with UCH who underwent proportional condylectomy, and group B, with 22 ceased patients with UCH who underwent orthognathic surgery.

Cardiovascular MRI-derived Right Atrial Strain for Improved Risk Stratification in Patients with Severe Aortic Stenosis.

Purpose To assess the prognostic implications of cardiac MRI-derived imaging markers in individuals with severe aortic stenosis (AS). Materials and Methods This prospective study (German Clinical Trials Register, DRKS00024479) enrolled individuals with severe AS who underwent cardiac MRI before transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) from January 2017 to March 2022. Image analyses included myocardial volumes, cardiac MRI feature tracking-derived left atrial (LA) and right atrial (RA) as well as left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) strain, myocardial T1 mapping, and late gadolinium enhancement analyses.

We Should Perform a Systematic Evaluation of the Placenta.

Despite its critical importance, the placenta receives substantially less attention during obstetric ultrasound examinations compared to the fetus. The evaluation of the placenta is typically limited to determining its location within the uterus, particularly its relationship to the cervix. Abnormal placenta findings are the result of gross anomalies identified by chance during obstetric examinations, rather than from a systematic evaluation.

Biomarkers.

Background: Cortical excitability is elevated in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Transcranial magnetic stimulation-evoked responses on electromyography (EMG) and electroencephalography (EEG) have captured this increased excitability in motor brain regions. However, it is not yet known if increased excitability is also present in the parietal lobe or the extent to which excitability is related to cognition.

Public Health.

Background: Growing evidence reports an association between sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) and cognitive impairment, including mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia. However, there is limited research on the link between cognitive impairment and in-home measures of SDB and how this association may differ by race, ethnicity, and sex.

Method: We studied 822 individuals who were enrolled in the community-based Health and Aging Brain Study-Health Disparities (HABS-HD)-Dormir study.

Public Health.

Background: While body mass index (BMI) is widely used to gauge overall adiposity, its accuracy in older age has yielded inconsistent findings. Moreover, BMI does not account for variations in regional fat distribution, which may differ between sexes. This study aims to investigate whether regional adiposity plays a distinct role in impacting cognition and the volumes of AD-related brain regions in older adults with T2D enrolled in the Israel Diabetes and Cognitive Decline (IDCD) study.

Public Health.

Background: Liver fibrosis is a prevalent, most often clinically silent condition. Accumulating literature suggests that liver fibrosis may be related to brain health measures. However, its predictive role in assessing dementia risk is conflicting.

Public Health.

Background: Increasing prevalence of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and limited pharmacological intervention benefits to decelerate early neurodegeneration have prompted exploration of non-pharmacological options. Recent studies indicate that combining cognitive-motor training enhances outcomes.

Methods: In a single-blind, parallel-group, randomized controlled trial of middle-aged adults with a parental history of AD, the experimental group (N = 22) underwent training with newly developed "real-world" intensive, progressive, virtual reality (VR) tasks, while walking on a treadmill.
