However, several promising HPA-modulating drugs have failed to reduce long-term cortisol in mood disorders, despite effectiveness in other hypercortisolism conditions such as Cushing's syndrome.

To access its online representations, visual working memory (VWM) relies on a pointer-system that creates correspondence between objects in the environment with their memory representations. This pointer-system allows VWM to modify its representations using a process called updating. When the pointer is invalidated, however, VWM triggers a process called resetting in which the no longer relevant representation and pointer are replaced.

Ramadan fasting and glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes: A real-world data analysis.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess the impact of Ramadan intermittent fasting on glycemic control in individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

Methods: This historical prospective study utilized electronic health records from a major state-mandated healthcare provider. The research sample included Muslim adults aged 40-70 years, who had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

Purpose: To investigate the association of diabetes mellitus and metformin use with metabolic acidosis risk after radical cystectomy (RC) and urinary diversion for bladder cancer.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective cohort study used TriNetX Research Network data. Patients undergoing RC with continent diversion or ileal conduit for bladder cancer were identified using International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10) and ICD-10 Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS) codes.

Mastering the complexities of cancer nanomedicine with text mining, AI and automation.

In this contribution to the Orations - New Horizons of the Journal of Controlled Release, I present a personal perspective on the complexities of cancer nanomedicine and the approaches to master them. This oration draws mainly from my lab's journey to explore three transformative approaches to master complexities in the field: (1) leveraging text mining to construct dynamic knowledge bases for hypothesis generation in cell-specific drug delivery, (2) introducing the concept of meta-synergy to further optimize and classify multi-drug combinations across dimensions such as chemical loading, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacokinetics (3) utilizing automation to accelerate nanoparticle discovery with advanced screening methodologies such as aggregation-induced emission (AIE). I argue that by embracing complexity in nanomedicine, we can manifest new therapeutic possibilities, paving the way for more effective, precise, and adaptive treatment strategies.

Objective: As aneurysmal disease is progressive, proximal disease progression and para-anastomotic aneurysms are complications experienced after open infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm repair (AAA). As such, fenestrated or branched endovascular repair (F/BEVAR) may be indicated in these patients. Data describing fenestrated endovascular aneurysm repair after prior open repair are limited to institutional databases.

Methods: Primiparous women at term admitted for medically-indicated labor induction were randomized to receive intravenous paracetamol 1 gram in 100cc normal saline (N=71) or placebo of 100cc normal saline (N=70) prior to catheter balloon insertion.

The competitive exclusion principle in epidemiology implies that when competing strains of a pathogen provide complete protection for each other, the strain with the largest reproduction number outcompetes the other strains and drives them to extinction. The introduction of various trade-off mechanisms may facilitate the coexistence of competing strains, especially when their respective basic reproduction numbers are close so that the competition between the strains is weak. Yet, one may expect that a substantial competitive advantage of one of the strains will eventually outbalance trade-off mechanisms driving less competitive strains to extinction.

A new Mediterranean Lifestyle Pyramid for children and youth: a critical lifestyle tool for preventing obesity and associated cardiometabolic diseases in a sustainable context.

Cardiovascular risk factors begin in childhood and track into adulthood, increasing the possibility of impaired cardiometabolic health. Adopting healthy dietary patterns can help curb childhood obesity, a worrisome epidemic problem at present. In the era of personalized nutrition, dietary recommendations should be adapted to different stages of life, including children (older than 3 years) and adolescents.

Inflammation and Coagulation in Neurologic and Psychiatric Disorders.

Coagulation factors are intrinsically expressed in various brain cells, including astrocytes and microglia. Their interaction with the inflammatory system is important for the well-being of the brain, but they are also crucial in the development of many diseases in the brain such as stroke and traumatic brain injury. The cellular effects of coagulation are mediated mainly by protease-activated receptors.

Pembrolizumab in microsatellite instability-high/mismatch repair deficient (MSI-H/dMMR) and non-MSI-H/non-dMMR advanced endometrial cancer: Phase 2 KEYNOTE-158 study results.

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are associated with pain and adverse health outcomes in noncancer population. Sense of coherence (SOC) reflects the disposition that life is manageable and predictable.

Diagnostic clues in herpes encephalitis following radiation therapy.

Introduction: Herpes encephalitis is known to affect patients undergoing brain radiotherapy, but early diagnosis and treatment, the foremost determinants of disease outcome, remain challenging in this patient population. This can be due to attribution of symptoms to the brain tumor and radiation side effects, as well as patients' atypical clinical presentation. Here we sought to highlight pearls and pitfalls in the clinical course and diagnostic workup which may facilitate timely diagnosis and improve disease outcome.

Precision Oncology: A Global Perspective on Implementation and Policy Development.

Despite the acknowledged merits of precision oncology (PO) and its increasing global implementation, its full potential for advancing care and prevention remains unrealized. The benefits are currently accessible to only limited patient segments because of multifaceted barriers. Successful implementation hinges on various factors-scientific complexities not limited to technical, clinical, regulatory, economic, administrative, and health care policy-related challenges.

Lessons Learned in Emergency Pelvic and First-Trimester US: Focus on Cognitive Biases.

Nonpregnant and pregnant women who present with acute pelvic pain can pose a diagnostic challenge in the emergency setting. The clinical presentation is often nonspecific, and the differential diagnosis may be very broad. These symptoms are often indications for pelvic US, which is the primary imaging modality when an obstetric or gynecologic cause is suspected.

Superhydrophobic and Self-Healing Porous Organic Macrocycle Crystals for Methane Purification under Humid Conditions.

Purifying methane from natural gas using adsorbents not only requires the adsorbents to possess excellent separation performance but also to overcome additional daunting challenges such as humidity interference and durability requirements for sustainable use. Herein, porous organic crystals of a new macrocycle () with superhydrophobic and self-healing features are prepared and employed for the purification of methane (>99.99% purity) from ternary methane/ethane/propane mixtures under 97% relative humidity.

Clinical and Imaging Characteristics of Posterior Scleritis in Children.

Background: Posterior scleritis (PS) is a rare phenotype of scleritis. Comprehensive epidemiological studies on PS in children are limited. We aimed to report on its clinical and imaging features in one of the largest pediatric series to date.
