Cataract surgery, a common procedure for vision restoration, exhibits variable outcomes based on patient demographics. This study aimed to elucidate the effects of age and sex on risk factors, intraoperative complications, and postoperative outcomes of cataract surgery. A single-center retrospective cohort study analyzed 691 eyes from 589 individuals who underwent surgery at a tertiary referral center, using electronic medical records to assess preoperative risk factors, intraoperative complications, and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) pre- and post-operatively, alongside demographic data.

Substudy 02C of the global, rolling-arm, phase 1/2, adaptive-design KEYMAKER-U02 trial is evaluating neoadjuvant pembrolizumab (anti-PD-1) alone or in combination, followed by adjuvant pembrolizumab, for stage IIIB-D melanoma. Here we report results from the first three arms: pembrolizumab plus vibostolimab (anti-TIGIT), pembrolizumab plus gebasaxturev (coxsackievirus A21) and pembrolizumab monotherapy.

Multi-omics-based mapping of decidualization resistance in patients with a history of severe preeclampsia.

Endometrial decidualization resistance (DR) is implicated in various gynecological and obstetric conditions. Here, using a multi-omic strategy, we unraveled the cellular and molecular characteristics of DR in patients who have suffered severe preeclampsia (sPE). Morphological analysis unveiled significant glandular anatomical abnormalities, confirmed histologically and quantified by the digitization of hematoxylin and eosin-stained tissue sections.

Safety and efficacy of laser lithotripsy for treatment of bladder calculi: evidence from a systematic literature review.

Purpose Of Review: Bladder stones account for 5% of all urinary tract calculi. Contributing factors include bladder outflow obstruction, infections, foreign bodies, or neurogenic voiding dysfunction. This necessitates an effective treatment modality, and with advances in medical technology, minimally invasive techniques using lasers are being widely adopted.

Adjuvant endocrine therapy with cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitor, ribociclib, for localized hormone receptor-positive/HER2- breast cancer (LEADER).

Optimal timing and dosing of adjuvant cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4/6 inhibitor in early breast cancer is controversial. This prospective phase II clinical trial investigated tolerability and safety of two ribociclib dosing schedules. Patients with stage I-III hormone receptor-positive (HR+)/HER2- breast cancer on adjuvant endocrine therapy (ET) were randomized to two ribociclib dosing schedules: 400 mg continuous vs 600 mg intermittent, with initiation in early (prior ET < 2 years) vs delayed (prior ET ≥ 2 years) setting.

Multivariable Predictive Model of Postoperative Delirium in Cardiac Surgery Patients: Proteomic and Demographic Contributions.

Background: Delirium after cardiac surgery is common, morbid, and costly, but may be prevented with risk stratification and targeted intervention. In this study, we aimed to identify protein biomarkers and develop a predictive model for postoperative delirium in older patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

Methods: SomaScan analysis of 1305 proteins in the plasma from 57 older adults undergoing cardiac surgery requiring cardiopulmonary bypass was conducted to define delirium-specific protein signatures at baseline (preoperative baseline timepoint [PREOP]) and postoperative day 2 (POD2).

Background/aims: X-linked retinitis pigmentosa (XLRP) is considered one of the most severe forms of retinitis pigmentosa (RP), accounting for 5-15% of all RP cases and primarily affecting males. Four expert panels were assembled to explore key subtopics (pharmacological/nonpharmacologic treatment, methodological challenges, and novel research designs).

In the present study, we aimed to explore these individual differences and explain them by employing Warren and Ackroff (1976) framework of direct identification of components and their order (direct ICO) and holistic pattern recognition (HPR). In Experiment 1, results from 177 participants replicated the large variance in participants' performance and suggested three response patterns, validated using the K-Means clustering algorithm.

Utility of Consumer-Grade Wearable Devices for Inferring Physical and Mental Health Outcomes in Severe Mental Illness: Systematic Review.

Background: Digital wearable devices, worn on or close to the body, have potential for passively detecting mental and physical health symptoms among people with severe mental illness (SMI); however, the roles of consumer-grade devices are not well understood.

Objective: This study aims to examine the utility of data from consumer-grade, digital, wearable devices (including smartphones or wrist-worn devices) for remotely monitoring or predicting changes in mental or physical health among adults with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Brain MRI Screening for Bilateral Retinoblastoma Patients.

Global Challenges in the Access of Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke (Global MT Access).

Background: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is the standard of care for eligible acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO) since 2015.

The association of deployment stressors and PTSD and depression symptoms in military mothers.

Previously deployed mothers report higher levels of posttraumatic stress and depression symptoms than non-deployed mothers. However, the specific stressors encountered during deployment that account for elevated clinical symptoms are not well understood including the impact of Military Sexual Trauma (MST) in the context of other deployment-related stressors. This study examined whether MST during deployment, degree of combat exposure, and length of deployment will each be associated with posttraumatic stress and depression symptoms among previously deployed mothers.
