The Role of Interventional Radiology in Managing Placenta Accreta Spectrum Disorder.

Clin Obstet Gynecol

January 2025

Department of Radiology, Boston University School of Medicine, Boston Medical Center, Boston, Massachusetts.

Interventional Radiology (IR) can be a crucial player in managing placenta accrete spectrum disorder (PAS), offering minimally invasive angiographic techniques that can prevent or control hemorrhage and preserve fertility. These include prophylactic balloon occlusion of the aorta or iliac arteries, preoperative catheter placement in the iliac or uterine arteries for subsequent embolization, or pre-emptive arterial embolization preceding hysterotomy and delivery. This review provides obstetricians with an overview of IR's role in the management of PAS by describing specific endovascular techniques; existing outcomes data; and considerations for protocol development, preoperative planning, and intraoperative dynamics for when IR assists with PAS cases.

High CDC20 levels increase sensitivity of cancer cells to MPS1 inhibitors.

EMBO Rep

January 2025

Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Spindle assembly checkpoint (SAC) inhibitors are a recently developed class of drugs, which perturb chromosome segregation during cell division, induce chromosomal instability (CIN), and eventually lead to cell death. The molecular features that determine cellular sensitivity to these drugs are not fully understood. We recently reported that aneuploid cancer cells are preferentially sensitive to SAC inhibition.

The literature shows a lack of significant research on the synthesis of large spherical PbTe quantum dots (QDs), particularly with controllable sizes and morphology. Here, we present for the first time a novel hot-injection method for the tunable, high-quality synthesis of cubooctahedral PbTe QDs within the size range of 10 nm to 16 nm. This method employs a combination of oleic acid (OA) with shorter carboxylic acids, including octanoic (OctA), decanoic (DA), and lauric acids (LA), tested at various volumetric ratios.

Art of TIL immunotherapy: SITC's perspective on demystifying a complex treatment.

J Immunother Cancer

January 2025

Surgery Branch, Center for Cancer Research, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA

In a first for solid cancers, cellular immunotherapy has entered standard of care in the treatment of patients with metastatic melanoma. The infusion of autologous tumor-infiltrating T lymphocytes (TIL) is capable of mediating durable tumor regression and is now Food and Drug Administration-approved for patients with disease refractory to immune checkpoint inhibitors. Since the advent of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells for patients with hematological malignancies, a growing network of centers capable of delivering effector T cell products to patients has developed.

In animals, metabolic rates during ontogeny often scale differently from the way they do in cross-species or population comparisons, with near-isometric scaling patterns more often observed during juvenile growth. In multiple social insect taxa, colony metabolic rate scales hypometrically across species or populations at the same developmental stage, but metabolic patterns during ontogeny have not been examined for any social insect species. We performed the first ontogenetic study of social metabolic scaling in harvester ant colonies () over 3.

Host-microbiome-dietary interactions play crucial roles in regulating human health, yet their direct functional assessment remains challenging. We adopted metagenome-informed metaproteomics (MIM), in mice and humans, to non-invasively explore species-level microbiome-host interactions during commensal and pathogen colonization, nutritional modification, and antibiotic-induced perturbation. Simultaneously, fecal MIM accurately characterized the nutritional exposure landscape in multiple clinical and dietary contexts.
