Background: Cardioplegic ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury poses substantial challenges during postoperative recovery, with diabetic patients particularly susceptible to adverse events. Using a model entailing the subjection of human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAECs) to simulated cardioplegic I/R, we investigated the potential of protein kinase c β (PKC-β) inhibition to augment cellular survival in this context.

Study Design: HCAECs were isolated from harvested coronary arteries of diabetic (D) and nondiabetic (C) patients (N = 4 per group).

Methods: In the present study, the authors examined MRI-based morphometric data from 115 individuals diagnosed with CMI (54 adults including 39 women and 15 men, and 61 children including 24 girls and 37 boys) and correlated them with Chicago Chiari Outcome Scale (CCOS) scores obtained 1 year after posterior fossa decompression.

Methods: We identified patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes in pregnancy or within 12 weeks postpartum between 2009 and 2020 at an obstetric teaching hospital. We described the clinical course of the included cases.

The Foundation was launched in 1993, incorporated in 2002, and established as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization in 2007. On the occasion of American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN)'s 50th anniversary, this article examines the creation of the Foundation, the state of clinical nutrition research funding, the Foundation's philanthropic mission, and the return on investment of Foundation grant support.

Health care providers' decision-making and early adoption of tenofovir alafenamide for HIV preexposure prophylaxis: An inductive qualitative study.

Background: Over the past several years, there have been several changes affecting the available options for oral HIV preexposure prophylaxis, including approvals for tenofovir alafenamide with emtricitabine in 2019 and a generic formulation of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate with emtricitabine in 2020.

Methods: In order to better understand providers' decision-making processes when deciding between these two drugs for pre-exposure prophylaxis, we conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews with resident, fellow and attending physicians in internal medicine and infectious diseases between May 2020 and March 2021. These interviews were analyzed to identify emergent codes, which were utilized in an inductive thematic analysis to identify major themes pertinent to pre-exposure prophylaxis decision-making.

Effectiveness and Safety of Mechanical Thrombectomy in Large-Vessel-Occlusion Mild Stroke: Insights from the ASSIST Registry.

Background And Purpose: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is effective for acute ischemic stroke, yet its indication in mild stroke remains unclear. This study evaluates MT's effectiveness and safety in low NIHSS patients and assesses different MT strategies' impact on procedural success and clinical outcomes.

Materials And Methods: Data from the ASSIST Registry were analyzed, categorizing patients with large vessel occlusion of the anterior circulation into mild (NIHSS≤5) and moderate-severe (NIHSS>5) stroke groups.

There are no standardised diagnostic criteria, however, a number of biomarkers have been evaluated to capture EED domains.

Radiology employers can develop and implement a strategic plan to tangibly support breastfeeding radiologists through establishing lactation support infrastructure. This can be accomplished by implementing formal policies and procedures for lactation breaks, establishing lactation rooms that are clean, comfortable, and convenient to access, facilitating access to breast pumps for trainees, and building a comprehensive support system.

Background: Collagen type X (ColXα1, encoded by ) is expressed specifically in the cartilage-to-bone transition, in bone marrow cells, and in osteoarthritic (OA) cartilage. We have previously shown that ColXα1 is expressed in breast tumor stroma, correlates with tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, and predicts poor adjuvant therapy outcomes in ER/HER2 breast cancer. Purpose: To predict survival and tumor recurrence following image-guided thermal ablation (IGTA) of lung tumors segmented using a deep learning approach.

Methods And Materials: A total of 113 patients who underwent IGTA for primary and metastatic lung tumors at a single institution between January 1, 2004 and July 14, 2022 were retrospectively identified. A pretrained U-Net model was applied to the dataset of pre- and post-procedure CT scans to segment lung zones.

Prolonged Venous Transit on Perfusion Imaging is Associated with Longer Lengths of Stay in Acute Large Vessel Occlusions.

Background And Purpose: Prolonged venous transit (PVT+) is a marker of venous outflow; it is defined as the presence or absence of time-to-maximum ≥10 seconds timing in either the superior sagittal sinus or torcula. This novel perfusion imaging-based metric has been associated with higher odds of mortality and lower odds of functional recovery. This study aims to assess the relationship between PVT on admission perfusion imaging and length of hospital stay in large vessel occlusion strokes successfully reperfused with mechanical thrombectomy.

Qualitative interviews with young adults at risk for psychosis and who use Cannabis: Informing the development of a mobile intervention.

Cannabis use disorder is common among young adults in psychiatric care, particularly those at risk for psychosis. Yet, interventions tailored to address this issue are limited. The goal of this qualitative study was to determine barriers and facilitators for reducing/quitting cannabis use, and to obtain end-user perspectives to inform a mobile app-based intervention.

Increase in the Incidence of Type 2 Diabetes in Young Children During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Objective: To describe the incidence of new onset type 2 diabetes (T2D) among children younger than 11 years old diagnosed during the COVID-19 pandemic (March 1, 2020-December 31, 2021) compared to those diagnosed during the pre-pandemic period (January 1, 2017-February 29, 2020) and to compare the metabolic parameters of those with T2D diagnosed before age 11 years with those diagnosed after age 11 years.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of youth <21 years with new onset T2D treated at Hasbro Children's Hospital between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2021. Patients diagnosed at age <11 years were compared to those ≥11 years.
