Aims: This study aimed to delineate the effect of hyperglycemia on the Alu/LINE-1 hypomethylation and in ERK1/2 genes expression in type 2 diabetes with and without cataract.

Methods: This study included 58 diabetic patients without cataracts, 50 diabetic patients with cataracts, and 36 healthy controls. After DNA extraction and bisulfite treatment, LINE-1 and Alu methylation levels were assessed using Real-time MSP.

GSTP1-A313G genetic polymorphism and the risk of preeclampsia in pregnant women: A study in the northern population of Iran.

Pregnancy Hypertens

September 2024

Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, Faculty of Basic Science, University of Mazandaran, Babolsar, Iran. Electronic address:

Preeclampsia or high blood pressure in pregnancy is one of the special disorders during pregnancy. It seems that oxidative stress plays an important role in the occurrence of this disease. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the A313G polymorphism in exon five of the glutathione S-transferase gene (GSTP1) and the risk of preeclampsia in a case-control study.

Advances in cancer immunotherapy over the last decade have led to the development of several agents that affect immune checkpoints. Inhibitory receptors expressed on T cells that negatively regulate the immune response include cytotoxic T‑lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA4) and programmed cell death protein 1 (PD1), which have been studied more than similar receptors. Inhibition of these proteins and other immune checkpoints can stimulate the immune system to attack cancer cells, and prevent the tumor from escaping the immune response.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a condition in which excess fat builds up in the liver, often related to obesity and insulin resistance, which can lead to inflammation and scarring of the liver tissue. While efforts have been made to develop effective treatments for NAFLD, the need for pharmaceutical interventions remains unmet. Large clinical trials investigating the association between statin use and NAFLD are scarce, leading to contradictory results.

The biocompatible active films were prepared based on nanochitosan (NCh) containing free and nanoliposome caraway seed extract (NLCE). The produced films were characterized by physico-mechanical, barrier, structural, color, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. The average particle size of NLCE was 78-122 nm, and the encapsulation efficiency (EE%) was obtained 49.

Background: Through combining two synthetic and natural polymers, scaffolds can be developed for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine purposes.

Methods: In this work, carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC; 20%) was grafted to Polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofibers using the cold atmospheric plasma of helium. The PCL scaffolds were exposed to CAP, and functional groups were developed on the PCL surface.

In this study, carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) was grafted on polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofibers to fabricate scaffolds for bone tissue engineering. The electrospun PCL nanofibers were treated by cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) of helium to generate the reactive functions necessary for CMC grafting. β-carotene (βC) as a biochemical clue and electromagnetic field (EMF, 31.

Background And Objectives: (PA) is one of the most important causes of nosocomial infections and has an intrinsic resistance to many antibiotics. Among all the resistance-nodulation-division (RND) pumps of MexAB-OprM is the first efflux pump found to target multiple classes of antibiotics. This study was aimed to evaluate the expression level of genes expressing MexAB-OprM in clinical isolates of

Materials And Methods: In this study, 45 strains were isolated from patients admitted to Children's Medical Center Hospital, an Iranian referral hospital.

The T follicular helper cells (TFH) are a subset of CD4+ T cells specialized to regulate antibody responses. The production of these cells is associated with the dendritic cells (DCs) and B cells. TFH cells help B cells form germinal centers (GC) differentiate into memory and plasma cells (antibody-secreting cells) as humoral responses.

Background: Dermatophytosis is the most important superficial fungal infection which affects nearly 20% of human population worldwide. Recurrence of disease and emerging resistance of Trichophyton rubrum to synthetic antifungals are the main problems in control of dermatophytosis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) on T.

Background: The pathogenic yeast Candida albicans is the most common opportunistic fungal pathogen that is responsible for a wide array of infections in susceptible individuals. Despite recent progress in developing novel antifungal drugs which combat Candida-related disorders, this fungus is still a major cause of life-threatening infections all over the world. In the present study, the effect of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) was evaluated on the growth of C.
