In abdominal X-ray examinations, radiosensitive organs such as the gonads within or near the imaging region are at risk of radiation exposure. Minimizing the dose to these organs is crucial to reducing unnecessary radiation. This study utilized optically stimulated luminescence dosimeters (OSLDs) to measure the radiation dose to the male gonads at varying kilovoltage peak (kVp) settings while keeping the milliampere-seconds (mAs) constant across different radiographic projections.

Human rhinovirus C (HRV-C) is a significant contributor to respiratory tract infections in children and is implicated in asthma exacerbations across all age groups. Despite its impact, there is currently no licensed vaccine available for HRV-C. Here, we present a novel approach to address this gap by employing immunoinformatics techniques for the design of a multi-epitope-based vaccine against HRV-C.

Bacteriophages Biscayne, Bush and GreenIvy were isolated from soil samples in Miami, FL using NRRL B-24224 as host. Transmission electron microscopy shows siphoviral morphologies for all three phages. Based on gene content similarity to other actinobacteriophages, they are assigned to the EE, GA and EA5 clusters, respectively.

Objectives: Calcium ions (Ca) play crucial role in tooth development, particularly in maintaining enamel density during amelogenesis. Ameloblasts require specific proteins such as amelogenin, ameloblastin, enamelin, kallikrein, and collagen for enamel growth. Recent research has highlighted the importance of calcium and fluoride ions, as well as the TRPM7, STIM, and SOCE pathways, in regulating various stages of enamel formation.

Background And Aims: Depression is a prevalent comorbidity among patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). While recent studies have hinted at a possible association between CHD and antidepressant medications like sertraline, the existing evidence remains inconclusive. To investigate this potential link, we conducted a comprehensive systematic review.

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a widespread liver condition associated with diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular diseases, yet public awareness remains low. Early detection of risk factors is crucial, but liver biopsy, the diagnostic gold standard, is invasive and costly. Non-invasive anthropometric indices provide a safer alternative.

While religion is a key determining factor of contraceptive use, few studies examine how religion influences adolescent and youth contraceptive attitudes, beliefs, and use. We use recently collected (August-November 2022) qualitative data from Burkina Faso, Kenya, and Niger among young users of modern contraception who practice Christianity or Islam. In-depth interviews with married and unmarried young women ages 18-24 years were conducted in two sites in each country to obtain a mix of religions and method users.

Background: Nocardia infections are rare infections in immunocompetent patients and occur mostly in immunocompromised individuals. Usually, nocardia affects skin, brain, and lungs, but in disseminated forms, which occurred mostly in immunocompromised patients, it can involve every organ. Nocardia sinusitis is extremely rare as our searches returned only a very few related studies.

Background: The growth in obesity and rates of abdominal obesity in developing countries is due to the dietary transition, meaning a shift from traditional, fiber-rich diets to Westernized diets high in processed foods, sugars, and unhealthy fats. Environmental changes, such as improving the quality of dietary fat consumed, may be useful in preventing or mitigating the obesity or unhealthy obesity phenotype in individuals with a genetic predisposition, although this has not yet been confirmed. Therefore, in this study, we investigated how dietary fat quality indices with metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) or metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO) based on the Karelis criterion interact with genetic susceptibility in Iranian female adults.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder ranging from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to AD dementia. Abnormal cerebral perfusion alterations, influenced by amyloid-beta (Aβ) accumulations, have been implicated in cognitive decline along this spectrum.
Objective: This study investigates the relationship between cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) Aβ1-42 levels and regional cerebral blood flow (CBF) changes across the AD continuum using the Arterial Spin Labeling (ASL) technique.

Ferroptosis is a regulated cell death mechanism distinct from apoptosis, autophagy, and necroptosis, marked by iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation. Since its identification in 2012, it has developed into a potential therapeutic target, especially concerning GI disorders like PC, HCC, GC, and CRC. This interest arises from the distinctive role of ferroptosis in the progression of diseases, presenting a new avenue for treatment where existing therapies fall short.

This study was conducted to investigate possible differences in the interactions of some selected steroids based on their distribution coefficients with cholesterol- or ergosterol-rich liposomes. Structurally cholesterol and ergosterol have very close resemblance to each other and generally it is thought that they behave in a similar manner. In this work we will show that this is not the case.

This study examines heat transfer and nanofluid-enhanced blood flow behaviour in stenotic arteries under inflammatory conditions, addressing critical challenges in cardiovascular health. The blood, treated as a Newtonian fluid, is augmented with gold nanoparticles to improve thermal conductivity and support drug delivery applications. A hybrid methodology combining finite element method (FEM) for numerical modelling and artificial neural networks (ANN) for stability prediction provides a robust analytical framework.
