Background: The growth in obesity and rates of abdominal obesity in developing countries is due to the dietary transition, meaning a shift from traditional, fiber-rich diets to Westernized diets high in processed foods, sugars, and unhealthy fats. Environmental changes, such as improving the quality of dietary fat consumed, may be useful in preventing or mitigating the obesity or unhealthy obesity phenotype in individuals with a genetic predisposition, although this has not yet been confirmed. The cystathionine beta-synthase (CBS) gene plays a critical role in numerous physiological processes, including cellular proliferation, bioenergetics, and redox balance, and has been implicated in many cancers, including breast and gastric cancers. Previous studies have suggested that VNTR polymorphism in intron 13 of the CBS gene may influence enzyme activity, as an increase in the number of repeats in this VNTR leads to a reduction in the activity of the CBS enzyme. In this case-control study, for the first time, we genotyped 107 patients with gastric cancer (and 111 healthy controls) and 138 patients with breast cancer (and 124 healthy controls) for the CBS VNTR polymorphism using PCR.

Neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's Disease (AD), Parkinson's Disease (PD), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), are characterized by progressive neuronal loss and cognitive impairment (CI). The: Cysteine-X-cysteine chemokine ligand 12(CXCL12)/CXC chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR4)/CXC chemokine receptor type 7 (CXCR7) axis has emerged as a critical molecular pathway in the development of CI in these disorders. This review explores the role of this axis in the pathogenesis of CI across these neurodegenerative diseases, synthesizing current evidence and its implications for targeted therapies.

This paper introduces an optimal sizing approach for battery energy storage systems (BESS) that integrates frequency regulation via an advanced frequency droop model (AFDM). In addition, based on the AFDM, a new formulation for charging/discharging of the battery with the purpose of system frequency control is presented. Canine distemper virus (CDV) causes a highly contagious and lethal disease in a vast range of carnivorous and non-carnivorous species. The study aimed to genetically investigate the hemagglutinin (H) gene and Fsp-coding region of CDV isolates from vaccinated dogs. Phylogenetic analysis of the H gene and Fsp-coding region showed that our viruses belonged to the Arctic-like lineage which was distinct from two commonly used vaccine strains (America-1 lineage strains) in Iran.
