Fluorescent and non-fluorescent neural tract tracers enable the investigation of neural pathways in both peripheral and central nervous systems in laboratory animals demonstrating images with high resolution and great anatomic precision. Anterograde and retrograde viral tracers are important cutting-edge tools for neuroanatomical mapping. The optogenetic consists of an advanced alternative for in vivo neural tract tracing procedures, fundamentally considering the possibility to dissect and modulate pathways either exciting or inhibiting neural circuits in laboratory animals.

This work presents an accurate and efficient method, for solving a two dimensional time-fractional Oldroyd-B fluid model. The proposed method couples the Laplace transform (LT) with a radial basis functions based local meshless method (LRBFM). The suggested numerical scheme first uses the LT which transform the given equation to an elliptic equation in LT space, and then it utilizes the LRBFM to solve transformed equation in LT space, and then the solution is converted back into the time domain via the improved Talbot's scheme.

Visual Analytics for Knowledge Laboratory (VIS2KNOW Lab), Department of Applied Artificial Intelligence, School of Convergence, College of Computing and Informatics, Sungkyunkwan University, Seoul 03063, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Facial Expression Analysis (FEA) plays a vital role in diagnosing and treating early-stage neurological disorders (NDs) like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Manual FEA is hindered by expertise, time, and training requirements, while automatic methods confront difficulties with real patient data unavailability, high computations, and irrelevant feature extraction. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a novel approach: an efficient, lightweight convolutional block attention module (CBAM) based deep learning network (DLN) to aid doctors in diagnosing ND patients.

The current study evaluates the antibacterial activity of Camponotus compressus (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) body crude extracts. The increasing antibiotic resistance of bacteria has prompted the world to turn its attention towards insects in the search for new sources of antibacterial compounds. The body crude extract obtained with different solvents were tested against both Gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis) and Gram negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae).

Background: Nitrogen (N) availability is crucial in regulating plants' abiotic stress resistance, particularly at the seedling stage. Nevertheless, plant responses to N under salinity conditions may vary depending on the soil's NH to NO ratio.

Methods: In this study, we investigated the effects of different NH:NO ratios (100/0, 0/100, 25/75, 50/50, and 75/25) on the growth and physio-biochemical responses of soybean seedlings grown under controlled and saline stress conditions (0-, 50-, and 100-mM L NaCl and NaSO, at a 1:1 molar ratio).

Physicochemical properties of water influence planktonic diversity and distribution, which is essential in obtaining basic knowledge of aquatic biodiversity. Thus current study aims to investigate the spatiotemporal diversity, abundance ratio, and distribution of phytoplankton species and their association with water quality parameters of Chashma Lake, Pakistan. During the study period from 2018 to 2019, we measured 13 physicochemical parameters across three selected sampling sites (S1, S2, and S3) in Chashma Lake, revealing both spatial and temporal variability.

Background/aims: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the complications of diabetes mellitus (DM). This study aimed to investigate the association between genetic polymorphisms, specifically AGTR1 (rs5186) and TGF-β1 (rs1800470), and the risk of developing Diabetic nephropathy (DN) in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, compared to those without DN and healthy controls.

Methods: A case-control study was conducted on 165 diabetic patients (59 with diabetic nephropathy (DN) and 54 without DN (DM)), and 52 healthy controls (HC).

Utilizing machine learning algorithms for precise discrimination of glycosuria in fluorescence spectroscopic data.

Spectrochim Acta A Mol Biomol Spectrosc

October 2024

Department of Physics, Islamia College Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 25120, Pakistan.

Fluorescence spectroscopy coupled with a random forest machine learning algorithm offers a promising non-invasive approach for diagnosing glycosuria, a condition characterized by excess sugar in the urine of diabetic patients. This study investigated the ability of this method to differentiate between diabetic and healthy control urine samples. Fluorescent spectra were captured from urine samples using a Xenon arc lamp emitting light within the 200 to 950 nm wavelength range, with consistent fluorescence emission observed at 450 nm under an excitation wavelength of 370 nm.

Article Synopsis
  • This text talks about a rare bone disorder called spondylocarpotarsal synostosis syndrome, caused by a change in a specific gene (FLNB).
  • Researchers studied a family in Pakistan to find out more about this disorder using advanced DNA testing methods like whole exome sequencing.
  • They discovered a new genetic change in the FLNB gene that helps understand the disorder better and can assist in giving advice to families about their genetic risks.

Magnesium hydride (MgH) is a promising hydrogen storage candidate due to its large capacity; however, high dehydrogenation temperature and slow kinetic rates are the main bottlenecks. Herein, we proposed a strategy for designing nitrogen-doped graphene-supported Ni nanoparticles (NPs) (Ni@NC) to tackle these problems. The results showed that the MgH + 15 wt % Ni@NC nanocomposite reduced the on-set dehydrogenation temperature to 195 °C, which was 175 °C lower than pristine MgH.

In this work there was investigated the synergistic effect of the nanomaterials-the Montmorillonite (MMT) and the vanadium pentoxide (VO) on the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/starch composite. The composite films were prepared by the solvent casting method. The characterization of the composites showed that the addition of the MMT and the VO to PVA/starch composite decreased the water solubility and water absorption capacity of the film.
