The effect of methylphenidate on the reproductive function of female rats.

Aim: Research on the effects of methylphenidate on female fertility is limited. This study evaluated the effects of methylphenidate on reproductive function, oxidants, antioxidants, proinflammatory cytokines, prolactin, and cortisol in female rats.

Methods: Forty-eight albino Wistar female rats were divided into four groups consisting of 12 rats, which were given pure water orally once daily for 7 days (HG-1), 10 mg/kg methylphenidate orally once daily for 7 days (MP-1), pure water orally once daily for 30 days (HG-2), and 10 mg/kg methylphenidate orally once daily for 30 days (MP-2).

The Delta Neutrophil Index (DNI), Immature Granulocyte Count (IGC) have previously been studied as markers in thyroid and breast cancers. The aim of this study was to determine whether immature granulocyte IGC and DNI values measured in preoperative blood parameters have a diagnostic benefit for the detection of advanced colon cancer.

The effects of oxidative stress and antioxidant processes on diabetes behavior, especially diabetic foot, are really direct. The goal of this research is to investigate the effects of oxidative stress and antioxidant mechanism on the outcome of amputation by examining the levels of 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) and thiol/disulfide in the blood of patients diagnosed with diabetic foot.

The relationship of potential biomarkers with psychological resilience and post-traumatic growth in female patients with breast cancer.

While investigating psychosocial factors on resilience and post-traumatic growth draws attention, research on biological correlates is limited. We investigated the relationship between post-traumatic growth, resilience, post-traumatic stress, and potential biomarkers in female patients with breast cancer (n = 71) from the general surgery or oncology clinics. They completed the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI), Connor Davidson Psychological Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), Brief Resilience Scale (BRS), PTSD Checklist for DSM-V, and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale.

Effectiveness of the Thermal Genicular Nerve Radiofrequency Ablation Therapy Under Fluoroscopy in Patients with Non-operative Advanced Stage Knee Osteoarthritis: 1-Year Follow-Up Results.

Background: In this study, our aim was to present the 1-year results of the effect of thermal genicular nerve radiofrequency ablation (GNRFA) therapy on pain and functional outcomes in patients with advanced knee osteoarthritis.

Materials And Methods: After retrospectively examining the hospital records, 49 knees of 35 patients who had undergone thermal RFA of the superior medial, superior lateral, and inferior medial branches of the genicular nerve under fluoroscopic guidance between July 2019 and December 2020 were included in the study. The visual analog scale (VAS) scores of the patients were recorded before RFA, on the day of RFA, and at the first, sixth, and 12th months postoperatively, as well as their Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) scores before RFA and at the 12th month postoperatively.

Hydatid cyst is a common infestation caused by helminths in humans and usually involves the liver and lungs. Primarily, cases of hydatid cysts in the thigh muscles are extremely rare and are generally in the form of case reports. It is an important disease due to its insidious course, its confusion with other soft tissue pathologies, delay in diagnosis and painstaking surgery.

Ecchymosis and Coldness in Peripheral Varicose Vein Patients: Observations From VEIN-TURKEY Study.

The purpose of this subgroup analysis is to investigate and analyze the venous leg symptoms including sense of coldness and sign of ecchymosis in patients with or without peripheral varicose veins (PVVs) from VEIN-TURKEY study population. A total of 600 patients, who were enrolled to VEIN-TURKEY study recently, were included in this subgroup analysis. Patients were examined clinically for the presence and severity of PVV and varicocele.

Differential effects of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors on paraoxonase-1 enzyme activity: An in vitro study.

Paraoxonase-I (PON1) is a calcium-dependent hydrolytic enzyme, plays an important role in most antioxidant properties related to high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Antidepressant drugs are commonly employed in treatment of mood disorders and anxiety treatment. In this study, human serum PON1 was purified using simple reproducible procedures and the effects of some antidepressant drugs on its activity were determined.

The value of ischemia-modified albumin and oxidative stress markers in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis in adults.

Introduction: The present study evaluates the predictive value of such markers as ischemia-modified albumin (IMA), malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione peroxide (GSH-Px), in addition to parameters associated with inflammation, oxidative stress and ischemia, playing roles in the pathology of acute appendicitis (AA), including c-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT) and complete blood count (CBC) parameters and their ratios, for the diagnosis of AA in adults.

Material And Methods: The study included 51 patients with histologically confirmed appendicitis and 45 healthy controls who referred to the emergency care unit between January and June 2018. The appendicitis cases were classified into two groups, as complicated and non-complicated, based on postoperative pathological investigations.

Objectives: Parathyroid carcinoma is a rare malignant disease of the parathyroid glands that appears in less than 1% of patients with primary hyperparathyroidism. In the literature, the generally recommended treatment is en bloc tumor excision with ipsilateral thyroid lobectomy. Based on our 12 years of experience, we discuss the necessity of performing thyroid lobectomy on parathyroid carcinoma patients.
