Introduction: Imaging analysis of foraminal stenosis in the fifth lumbar (L5) nerve root remains to be a challenge because of the anatomical complexity of the lumbosacral transition. T2-weighted three-dimensional (3D) magnetic resonance images (MRI) have been dominantly used for diagnosis of lumbar foraminal stenosis, while the reliability of T1-weighted images (WI) has also been proven. In this study, we aim to compare the reliability and reproducibility of T1- and T2-weighted 3D MRI in diagnosing lumbar foraminal stenosis (LFS) of the L5 nerve root.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by the production of various autoantibodies and deposition of immune complexes on tissues. Acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a life-threatening hematological disorder that rarely develops in SLE, mainly caused by inhibitory or clearing autoantibody against ADAMTS13. Although B cells play critical roles in the pathogenesis of two diseases, the role of B-cell depletion therapy using rituximab (RTX), a chimeric monoclonal antibody targeting CD20, in the management of TTP associated with SLE remains unclear.

As shown in our previous studies, the intratracheal-administration of STC1 (stanniocalcin-1) ameliorates pulmonary fibrosis by reducing oxidative and endoplasmic reticulum stress through the uncoupling of respiration in a bleomycin-treated mouse model. However, the overall effect of STC1 on metabolism was not examined. Therefore, we first conducted a comprehensive metabolomics analysis to screen the overall metabolic changes induced by STC1 in an alveolar epithelial cell line using capillary electrophoresis time-of-flight mass spectrometry.

Background: A decrease in the activities of daily living (ADL) is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Although percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is known to prevent early mortality in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), the relationship between ADL prior to myocardial infarction (MI), PCI implementation, and mortality in patients with AMI remains unknown. We investigated the impact of prehospital ADL on PCI implementation and on short- and long-term mortality in patients with AMI.

Improvements in the hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence rate and survival have been frequently reported following virus eradication after hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related HCC cure. However, the efficacy of direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy in patients who included those with advanced HCC and decreased hepatic functional reserve is unknown. A comparative examination was retrospectively conducted of 141 patients with hepatitis C who started DAA therapy within 1 year after undergoing curative HCC treatment and showed a sustained viral response (SVR) and 327 patients who underwent curative treatment for HCV-related HCC and did not subsequently receive antiviral therapy.

DNA methylation status correlates with clinical outcomes of anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) treatment. There is a strong need to develop a simple assay for measuring DNA methylation status for the clinical application of drug selection based on it. In this study, we collected data from 186 patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) who had previously received anti-EGFR treatment.

Purpose: Several trials have evaluated the efficacy of rechallenge treatment with anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) monoclonal antibody (mAb) in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). A recent trial indicated that status in circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) may potentially predict patients with wild-type mCRC resistant to anti-EGFR mAb who would benefit from rechallenge treatment, and the findings should be further investigated.
Material And Methods: We enrolled patients whose plasma samples were collected in prospective phase II trials, the JACCRO CC-08 (n = 36) and CC-09 (n = 25), which evaluated rechallenge chemotherapy with anti-EGFR mAb for wild-type mCRC.
