Effect of flood on the cutaneous leishmaniasis incidence in northeast of Iran: an interrupted time series study.

Introduction: Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL) is a zoonosis infection which is endemic in more than 100 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and America. It was estimated that nearly 20 thousand of new cases are reported in Iran annually. This study aimed to investigate the impact of floods on the incidence of leishmaniasis in Golestan province (northeast of Iran) over nine years, from 2015 to 2023.

Evaluation of the immunogenicity of a DNA vaccine for Leishmania major based on the Leishmania-activated C kinase antigen using calcium phosphate and chitosan adjuvants.

Background: Leishmaniasis represents a significant parasitic disease with global health implications, and the development of an affordable and effective vaccine could provide a valuable solution. This study aimed to evaluate the immunogenicity of a DNA vaccine targeting Leishmania major specifically based on the Leishmania-activated C kinase (LACK) antigen, utilizing calcium phosphate nanoparticles (CaPNs) and chitosan nanoparticles (ChitNs) as adjuvants.

Methods: Seventy female BALB/c mice, aged 4-6 wk and weighing 20-22 g, were selected and divided into five groups, each consisting of 14 mice.

Bovine brucellosis, associated risk factors and preventive measures in industrial cattle farms.

Effective management of brucellosis in human populations is closely tied to controlling the disease in domestic livestock. This study focused on identifying determinants of brucellosis prevalence in mixed industrial dairy and beef cattle farms within Isfahan Province, Iran. Employing a case control design, we compared 32 ranches with documented brucellosis within the previous year (12 months) to 38 farms with no brucellosis during the same timeframe.

Type A Aortic Dissection in a Previously Healthy Pregnant Patient: A Challenging Dilemma, Case Report, and Literature Review.

Aortic dissection (AoD) is a rare fatal condition in which tearing in the intima causes a false channel in the aorta and can lead to rupture. AoD is classified as the DeBakey classification (Types I, II, III) and Stanford classification (Types A and B). Women with underlying risk factors such as hypertension, smoking, bicuspid aortic valve, and connective tissue disorders are at risk for pregnancy-related AoD.

Background: Over the recent years, the self-care program has been a significant policy in the field of health. The WHO recommended self-care for every country and economic setting for reaching universal health coverage, promoting health, keeping the world safe and serving the vulnerable. Conducting a policy analysis study can be useful in closely examining the self-care program's content, process, context and actors.

Evaluating hospital performance with additive DEA and MPI: the Isfahan University of Medical Science case study.

Background: Hospitals are a vital pillar of the health system, and measuring their performance by an appropriate quantitative model is crucial. This study evaluated the performance of hospitals affiliated with Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. It deals with the nature of dynamics (the performance of evaluation indicators over time), examining controllable, uncontrollable, and undesirable input and output indicators.

Development and Evaluation of SYBR Green Real-Time PCR for Rapid and Specific Identification of Trichophyton indotineae.

Background: Since 2017, dermatophytosis caused by the newly introduced species Trichophyton indotineae has gained new interest worldwide due to the rise in terbinafine resistance and difficulty in the treatment of recalcitrant infections. Distinguishing T. indotineae from other Trichophyton species based on morphological features is impossible and DNA sequencing is necessary for accurate identification.

Microbial safety and chemical characteristics of sausage coated by chitosan and postbiotics obtained from Lactobacillus bulgaricus during cold storage.

This study investigated the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, as well as the volatile compounds, of Lactobacillus bulgaricus (L. bulgaricus) postbiotics (at concentration of 150 and 300 mg/L) and their combination with chitosan coatings (0.5% and 1%) on sausage quality (with 100 ppm nitrite) during 40 days of cold storage.

Dairy consumption and premature coronary artery disease onset: Iran premature coronary artery disease (IPAD) study insights.

Evidence has argued about the association between dairy intake and premature coronary artery disease (PCAD) development aimed to be discussed in this study. This case-control study was conducted on 813 individuals with PCAD and 471 healthy controls. The dairy intake of participants was assessed by a validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire.

Superior oblique paresis following endoscopic brow lift.

Endoscopic brow lift (EBL) surgery, performed for cosmetic purposes, carries a small risk for postoperative superior oblique paresis leading to diplopia. We report 2 cases of diplopia after EBL. In the first, a 54-year-old woman was diagnosed with right eye superior oblique paresis, which was confirmed on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which revealed trochlear region enhancement.

Co-delivery of dasatinib and miR-30a by liposomes targeting neuropilin-1 receptors for triple-negative breast cancer therapy.

Combinational therapy to treat triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) by concomitantly influencing different cellular pathways has attracted attention recently. In the present study, co-delivery of dasatinib and miR30a by means of CRGDK-targeted lipopolyplexes was conducted to enhance the inhibition of cell proliferation and migration. For this purpose, we condensed the cationic copolymer poly(1-vinylimidazole--2-aminoethyl methacrylate) with miR-30a to form polyplexes.

Investigation of pregnancy tendency, reproductive characteristics, and disability in women with multiple sclerosis: A secondary data analysis of the national registry in Iran.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) predominantly affects women of childbearing age, significantly impacting their quality of life (QOL). The diagnosis of MS can influence pregnancy intention, and the level of disability associated with MS may change before and after pregnancy. This study aims to analyze the reproductive characteristics of Iranian female patients with MS (PwMS) and their association with the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) and pregnancy tendency, providing valuable insights into disease progression and the development of tailored treatments.

Effect of a metal artifact reduction algorithm on cone-beam computed tomography scans of titanium and zirconia implants within and outside the field of view.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of a metal artifact reduction (MAR) algorithm on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans of titanium and zirconia implants, both within and outside the field of view (FOV).

Materials And Methods: In this study, a dry human mandible was positioned in a CBCT scanner with only its left quadrant included in the FOV. Each type of implant (titanium and zirconia) was placed once in the right second premolar extraction socket and once in the left second premolar extraction socket of the mandible.

Effect of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation on mortality rate of aluminum phosphate poisoning: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Aluminum phosphate (ALP) poisoning has a high mortality rate (MR) secondary to cardiogenic shock. Recently, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) showed a successful result in this issue. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the MR of patients with ALP poisoning who underwent ECMO versus those with conventional treatment.

The efficacy of curcumin-piperine supplementation in patients with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy: An optical coherence tomography angiography-based randomized controlled trial.

Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the complications of diabetes. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of curcumin-piperine on laboratory factors and macular vascular in DR.

Materials And Methods: The present study was a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel-arm clinical trial that was conducted on 60 patients with DR aged 30-65 years.

Incidence of colorectal cancer in Iran: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: The incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) is rising in Iran, but reports vary across different regions due to diverse methods and data sources. This study aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta analysis to provide an overview of the incidence rate of CRC and its trend among Iranians in various provinces.

Materials And Methods: A comprehensive literature search based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analyses checklist was performed using national and international databases for papers published up to December 2023.

How necessary it is to perform a ventilation scan in patients with a history of COVID-19 to rule out pulmonary thromboembolism?

Objectives: This study evaluated the necessity of a ventilation scan in patients suspected of PE with a history of COVID-19 infection.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of patients with PCR-confirmed COVID-19 and suspected PE at a tertiary care hospital in 2020. They underwent ventilation/perfusion (V/Q) scintigraphy using single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) and CT scans with or without contrast.

Background: Thyroid cancer, a common endocrine malignancy, has seen increasing incidence, making lymph node metastasis (LNM) a critical factor for recurrence and survival. Radiomics and deep learning (DL) advancements offer the potential for improved LNM prediction using CT and MRI, though challenges in diagnostic accuracy remain.

Current comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to assess the effect of Vit D supplementation on clinical and subclinical factors in patients with IBD.

Methods: PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were searched for relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the effect of Vit D supplementation in IBD patients, published up to March 2023.
