Background: The rapid emergence of co-selection between antimicrobials, including antibiotics and disinfectants, presents a significant challenge to healthcare systems. This phenomenon exacerbates contamination risks and limits the effectiveness of strategies to combat antibiotic resistance in clinical settings. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of bacteria in hospital environments that exhibit co-selection mechanisms and their potential implications for patient health, framed within the One Health perspective.

This study aimed to examine how mesoporous silica nanoparticles-chitosan-folic acid impacted the release of recombinant Azurin within the tumor environment. The goal was to trigger apoptosis and stimulate immune responses against both transformed and normal cells in BALB/c mice. The study found that the use of rAzu-MSNs-CS-FA, a specific formulation containing mesoporous silica nanoparticles-chitosan-folic acid, resulted in pH-responsive behavior and slower release of rAzurin compared to other groups.

Background: Adrenocorticotropin (ACTH)-dependent Cushing's syndrome can arise from a pituitary tumour (Cushing's disease) or an ectopic ACTH-secreting tumour, making precise differentiation essential for effective treatment. Bilateral inferior petrosal sinus sampling (BIPSS) is the gold standard for this differentiation, but false-negative results can limit its accuracy. Adding prolactin (PRL) measurement to BIPSS has been proposed to improve diagnostic precision.

Background: Acquiring new knowledge necessitates alterations at the synaptic level within the brain. Glutamate, a pivotal neurotransmitter, plays a critical role in these processes, particularly in learning and memory formation. Although previous research has explored glutamate's involvement in cognitive functions, a comprehensive understanding of its real-time dynamics remains elusive during memory tasks.

J Biomed Phys Eng

December 2024

Medical Image and Signal Processing Research Center, School of Advanced Technologies in Medicine, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, Isfahan, Iran.

Background: The P300 signal, an endogenous component of event-related potentials, is extracted from an electroencephalography signal and employed in Brain-computer Interface (BCI) devices.

Objective: The current study aimed to address challenges in extracting useful features from P300 components and detecting P300 through a hybrid unsupervised manner based on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-term Memory (LSTM).

Material And Methods: In this cross-sectional study, CNN as a useful method for the P300 classification task emphasizes spatial characteristics of data.

Background: This systematic review and meta-analysis examine the effects of okra consumption on cardiometabolic risk factors in individuals with prediabetes and diabetes. Okra is a widely consumed vegetable with potential health benefits, and understanding its impact on metabolic parameters in these populations is important.

Methods: A comprehensive search of the literature was conducted up to May 2024 in PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and Web of Science to find relevant randomized clinical trials (RCTs) by using following keyword: ("okra" OR "okras" OR "") AND ("intervention" OR "controlled trial" OR "randomized" OR "randomized" OR "randomly" OR "clinical trial" OR "trial" OR "randomized controlled trial" OR "randomized clinical trial" OR "RCT" OR "blinded" OR "placebo" OR "Cross-Over" OR "parallel").

Introduction: Concealed penis is a congenital anomaly that affects not only the appearance but also the function of the external genitalia in the male sex. Different surgical methods have been proposed to correct this disorder, including removal of the previous scar, penile shaft, penile trunk skin reconstruction with flap, penile skin fixation in penopubic and penoscrotal angles, and removal of extra pubic fat. In this study, we will discuss the results of definitive surgery in one stage using autogenous skin grafts and examine the details of this technique.

Lower extremity joint kinematics in individuals with and without bilateral knee osteoarthritis during normal and narrow-base walking: A cross-sectional study.

Knee

December 2024

Geriatric Mental Health Research Center, Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran; Rehabilitation Research Center, Department of Physiotherapy, School of Rehabilitation Sciences, Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran. Electronic address:

Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a prevalent musculoskeletal disease affecting joint mechanics. Considering the effect of step-width changes on the biomechanics of gait, especially the alteration of stability dynamics during narrow-base gait, this study investigated the kinematic parameters of the lower extremities during both normal and narrow-base walking in individuals with and without KOA.

Methods: A cross-sectional study with 20 individuals with bilateral KOA and 20 controls was conducted.
