Vascularized fibular epiphyseal transfer (VFET) offers a functional advantage in pediatric limb salvage due to the preservation of growth potential and an articular surface for remodeling. This review summarizes the available evidence on the clinical characteristics and outcomes of pediatric reconstruction applying VFET at different recipient sites and with varying techniques. VFET was used to reconstruct the proximal humerus, distal radius or ulna, proximal femur, distal fibula, calcaneus, and mandible.

Introduction: The survival benefit of residual kidney function (RKF) in patients on hemodialysis is presumably due to enhanced fluid management and solute clearance. However, data are lacking on the association of renal urea clearance (CL) with specific causes of death.
Methods: We conducted a longitudinal cohort study of 39,623 adults initiating thrice-weekly in-center hemodialysis from 2007 to 2011 and had data on renal CL and urine volume.

Background: Craniopharyngiomas are uncommon benign sellar and parasellar tumors with high overall survival (OS) and recurrence rates. Treatment is often surgical but may include adjuvant therapies. The impact of adjuvant therapy and surgical approach have been evaluated, however, facility volume and type have not.

BACKGROUND Overdoses on over-the-counter (OTC) drugs are increasing in the United States, which includes widely available non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like naproxen. Symptoms of NSAID toxicity are well known and nonspecific, including nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and headaches. Extreme cases can present with confusion, seizures, and renal failure.

Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) has now been accepted as an integral component in the management of gastrointestinal and gynecological cancers with peritoneal metastases. Since the adoption of CRS is influenced by access to advanced medical facilities, trained multidisciplinary teams, and funding, there is wide variability in incorporation of CRS into routine clinical practice between high- versus low- and middle-income countries. This review highlights the global trends in the adoption of CRS for peritoneal malignancies with a specific focus on the establishment of CRS programs and barriers to incorporate CRS into routine clinical care in low- and middle-income countries.

A novel syndrome was suspected in individuals sharing short stature, microcephaly, distinctive facial features, and congenital anomalies. We enrolled 6 patients in an institutional review board approved study and evaluated medical history, findings, facial photographs, and test results across this original cohort. Four additional cases with similar findings were contributed by clinicians from outside institutions, bringing the number of reported cases to 10 and supporting the existence of this novel syndrome.

Objectives: The primary objective was to assess the perspectives of recent laryngology fellowship graduates on office-based procedure training, with a secondary objective to compare this with previous research on perspectives of fellowship directors.
Methods: Recent laryngology fellowship graduates were surveyed via an online survey platform regarding post-fellowship practice and various aspects of office-based procedure training, including perceived competence, mentorship, and barriers.
Results: There were 51 respondents.

A chemical burn resulting from luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone agonists (LHRHa) is a rare adverse effect that has not been well-documented in prior literature. In this case report, we report a partial-thickness burn that developed following a single subcutaneous injection of goserelin. To our knowledge, this is the first description of goserelin-induced chemical burn in the literature.

Platinum-based chemotherapy is known to cause taste and smell changes (TSCs) via a host of mechanisms, including altered receptor activity, saliva/mucus production, and induction of receptor destruction via mitotic inhibition. In the literature to date, these changes have primarily resulted in worsening of taste and smell. In this case report, we document the first instance of an individual regaining their sense of olfactory detection following treatment with oxaliplatin for colorectal adenocarcinoma.

Background: Evidence on long-term oncological efficacy is available only for open radical prostatectomy but remains scarce for robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP).
Objective: To validate the long-term survival rates after RARP and provide stratified outcomes based on contemporary prostate cancer (PCa) risk-stratification tools.
Design, Setting, And Participants: A retrospective analysis of the European Association of Urology (EAU) Robotic Urology Section Scientific Working Group international multicenter database for RARP was performed.

The physis, or growth plate, is the primary structure responsible for longitudinal growth of the long bones. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is a technique that depicts the anisotropic motion of water molecules, or diffusion. When diffusion is limited by cellular membranes, information on tissue microstructure can be acquired.

Background: No widely used stratification tool exists to predict which pediatric trauma patients may require a video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). We sought to develop a novel VATS-In-Pediatrics (VIP) score to predict the need for early VATS (within 72 h of admission) for pediatric trauma patients.
Methods: The pediatric 2017-2020 Trauma Quality Improvement Program database was used and divided into two sets (derivation set using 2017-2019 data and validation set using 2020 data).

Background: Brexucabtagene autoleucel (brexu-cel) is an autologous anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy approved in the USA for adults with relapsed or refractory (R/R) B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) and in the European Union for patients ≥26 years with R/R B-ALL. After 2 years of follow-up in ZUMA-3, the overall complete remission (CR) rate (CR+CR with incomplete hematological recovery (CRi)) was 73%, and the median overall survival (OS) was 25.4 months in 78 Phase 1 and 2 patients with R/R B-ALL who received the pivotal dose of brexu-cel.

Objective: Nasal airway obstruction (NAO) is caused by various disorders including nasal valve collapse (NVC). A bipolar radiofrequency (RF) device (VivAer®, Aerin Medical, Sunnyvale, CA) has been used to treat NAO through RF heat generation to the upper lateral cartilage (ULC). The purpose of this study is to measure temperature elevations in nasal tissue, using infrared (IR) radiometry to map the spatial and temporal evolution of temperature.
