Introduction: This study aimed to assess perioperative bleeding complications and in-hospital mortality in patients requiring emergency general surgery presenting with a history of antiplatelet (AP) versus direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) versus warfarin use.
Methods: A prospective observational study across 21 centers between 2019 and 2022 was conducted. Inclusion criteria were age 18 years or older, and DOAC, warfarin, or AP use within 24 hours of an emergency general surgery procedure.

Advanced endovascular techniques are increasingly being utilized to treat patients with peripheral arterial disease and chronic limb-threatening ischemia to improve lower extremity arterial perfusion. In diabetic patients, pedal arch patency has been associated with improved wound healing, limb salvage, and overall survival. Pedal-plantar loop revascularization is a technique that can restore arterial inflow between the dorsal and plantar arteries of the foot.

Introduction: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) causes significant morbidity and mortality in pediatric patients and care is highly variable. Standardized mortality ratio (SMR) summarizes the mortality rate of a specific center relative to the expected rates across all centers, adjusted for case-mix. This study aimed to evaluate variations in SMRs among pediatric trauma centers for TBI.

In recent years, the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medical imaging has become increasingly prominent, with the majority of AI applications approved by the FDA being in imaging and radiology in 2023. The surge in AI model development to tackle clinical challenges underscores the necessity for preparing high-quality medical imaging data. Proper data preparation is crucial as it fosters the creation of standardized and reproducible AI models while minimizing biases.

Background: The Hill classification characterizes the geometry of gastroesophageal junction and Hill grades (HGs) III and IV have a high association with pathologic reflux. This study aimed to understand the use of the Hill classification and correlate the prevalence of pathologic reflux across different HGs.
Study Design: A retrospective review of 477 patients who underwent upper endoscopy and BRAVO pH monitoring between August 2018 and October 2021 was performed.

The shift from film to PACS in reading rooms, coupled with escalating case volumes, exposes radiologists to the issues of the modern computer workstation including computer work posture and work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSD). Common WMSDs affecting the neck and upper extremities include cervical myofascial pain, shoulder tendonitis, lateral epicondylitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and cubital tunnel syndrome. This review examines each pathology along with its pathogenesis, clinical features, physical exam findings, and potential risk factors.

In healthcare professions, soft skills contribute to critical thinking, decision-making, and patient-centered care. While important to the delivery of high-quality medical care, soft skills are often underemphasized during healthcare training in low-and-middle-income countries. Despite South Asia's large population, the efficacy and viability of a digital soft skills curriculum for South Asian healthcare practitioners has not been studied to date.

Heavy drinking among people living with HIV (PLWH) reduces ART adherence and worsens health outcomes. Lengthy interventions are not feasible in most HIV care settings, and patients infrequently follow referrals to outside treatment. Utilizing visual and video features of smartphone technology, we developed HealthCall as an electronic means of increasing patient involvement in a brief intervention to reduce drinking and improve ART adherence.

There is a rising trend in the consumption of dietary supplements, especially among adults, with the purpose of improving health. While marketing campaigns tout the potential health benefits of using dietary supplements, it is critical to evaluate the potential harmful effects associated with these supplements as well. The majority of the scarce research on the potential harmful effects of vitamins focuses on the acute or chronic toxicities associated with the use of dietary supplements.

Introduction: We have shown in a Phase I trial that immediate adjuvant chemotherapy (IAC) during surgical resection and immediately postoperative is safe and feasible in patients with colon cancer (CC). IAC avoids delays in adjuvant treatment and has the potential to improve survival and quality of life. We aim to determine patients and providers attitudes toward this novel multidisciplinary treatment approach.

Urachal cancer is a rare malignancy of the urachus that is treated with surgical resection if localized and systemic chemotherapy for metastatic disease. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is a single-stranded or double-stranded DNA released by tumor cells into the blood and harbored the mutations of the original tumor, shedding new light on molecular diagnosis and monitoring of cancer. We report a case of resected localized urachal cancer with clear surgical margins and negative lymph node dissection but elevated ctDNA that progressed to metastatic disease.
