Achondroplasia is the most common genetic form of short-limbed skeletal dysplasia (dwarfism). Clinical manifestations and complications can affect individuals across the lifespan, including the need for adaptations for activities of daily living, which can affect quality of life. Current international guidelines focus on symptomatic management, with little discussion regarding potential medication, as therapeutic options were limited at the time of their publication.

Background: The prevalence of dry mouth in the palliative care population is well documented and increases due to polypharmacy, radiotherapy and systemic conditions. Saliva as a lubricant for the mouth and throat has implications for swallowing, chewing, and speech. A total of 42,799 sales records from 2003 to 2022 were obtained from two Irish equine auction companies.

Zymocin-like killer toxin gene clusters in the nuclear genomes of filamentous fungi.

Zymocin-like killer toxins are anticodon nucleases secreted by some budding yeast species, which kill competitor yeasts by cleaving tRNA molecules. They are encoded by virus-like elements (VLEs), cytosolic linear DNA molecules that are also called killer plasmids. To date, toxins of this type have been found only in budding yeast species (Saccharomycotina).

Methods: Twelve Rugby Union coaches involved with youth teams participated in five online focus groups. Conventional content analysis was used to determine preferences initially from transcripts, and thereafter main categories, generic categories and sub-categories.

Rotavirus C (RVC) causes acute gastroenteritis in neonatal piglets. Despite the clinical importance of RVC infection, the distribution and prevalence in pig populations in most African countries remains unknown. In this study, we identified RVC in Zambian pigs by metagenomic analysis.

Harmonious ageing: a narrative review of music therapy in the biomedical literature.

Purpose: As the global population of older adults rises, the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021-2030) advocates for disease prevention, management, and enhancing overall wellbeing in older adults. We reviewed the MEDLINE literature under the MeSH term "music therapy" (MT), for its role in promoting healthy ageing.

Background: Highly effective CFTR modulators improve CFTR function and lead to dramatic improvements in health outcomes in many people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF). The relationship between measures of CFTR function, such as sweat chloride concentration, and clinical outcomes in pwCF treated with CFTR modulators is poorly defined. We conducted analyses to better understand the relationships between sweat chloride and CFTR function in vitro, and between sweat chloride and clinical outcomes following CFTR modulator treatment.

Enhancing pork meat batter with curdlan gum-guar gum composite microgels: Impact of fat replacer on gel properties, water distribution, and sensory perception.

This work investigated the effects of curdlan gum-guar gum composite microgels (CG microgels) as a fat replacer on the gel properties, water distribution, and microstructures of pork meat batters, using techniques including rheometry, SEM, and LF-NMR. Interstitial cells of Cajal in the plane of the myenteric plexus (ICC-MY) serve as electrical pacemakers in the stomach and small intestine. A similar population of cells is found in the colon, but these cells do not appear to generate regular slow wave potentials, as characteristic in more proximal gut regions. Neglected class A carbapenemases: Systematic review of IMI/NmcA and FRI from a One Health perspective.

Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales are pathogens classified as a critical priority by the World Health Organization and a burden on human health worldwide. IMI, NmcA, and FRI are under-detected class A carbapenemases that have been reported in the human, animal and environmental compartments, particularly these last 5 years. Bacteria producing these carbapenemases have been mostly identified in digestive carriage screenings, but they are also involved in severe infections, such as bacteremia.
