Mar Pollut Bull

December 2018

Systems Environmental Health and Energy Research Center, The Persian Gulf Biomedical Sciences Research Institute, Bushehr University of Medical Sciences, Bushehr, Iran.

This work is the first study on the spatial and temporal distribution of metals in zooplankton collected along the Persian Gulf. The rank order distribution of metals in terms of their overall average concentration in the zooplankton was observed to be Fe > Zn > Cu > Cd > Ni > Cr > Pb > Co > V. No clear pattern and no statistical differences were detected among the areas and the sampling stations.

High spatial resolution WorldView-2 (WV2) satellite imagery coupled with field observations have been utilized for mapping the coral reefs around Hendorabi Island in the northern Persian Gulf. In doing so, three standard multispectral bands (red, green, and blue) were selected to produce a classified map for benthic habitats. The in-situ observations were included photo-transects taken by snorkeling in water surface and manta tow technique.

In this work, the results of hydrochemical studies aboard the R/V Iran Behshahr in southern Caspian Sea in late-winter 2014 were presented. Salinity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, total dissolved inorganic carbon, total alkalinity, nitrate, phosphate and silicate concentrations in water column of Neka-Amir Kabir oil platform section in the southern Caspian Sea were measured to study the status of hydrochemistry of this area. Results showed that the hypoxia continues to intensify in the deep-water basin of the South Caspian Sea.

The purpose of this study was to quantify phosphorus bioavailability and various forms of this element in surface sediments of the southern Caspian Sea. To do, sediment samples were collected from different depths in autumn 2015 using a Van Veen Grab. Phosphorus forms were recognized by a sequential extraction procedure (SEDEX).

Magnetically N-doped Carbon quantum dots has been synthesized via a simple chemical method and applied as a sorbent for the preconcentration and extraction of trace amounts of Pb from water and vegetable samples followed by flame atomic absorption spectrometric detection. The nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, UV-vis spectra, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometer analysis and transmission electron microscopy. A central-composite design was used to find the optimum conditions for the preconcentration procedure through response surface methodology.

The separation and pre-concentration of pb ions from mollusk and fish samples were performed by nanocomposite of magnetic graphene oxide-polyimide, as an efficient solid-phase extraction sorbent. The nanocomposite was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The parameters affecting the extraction processes including: amount of adsorbent, adsorption and desorption times, type and volume of the eluent solvent and interfering ions of the sample were investigated and optimized.

The protective role of vitamin E on Oreochromis niloticus exposed to ZnONP.

Ecotoxicol Environ Saf

November 2017

Young Researchers and Elite Club, Science and Research Branch, Islamic Azad University, Tehran, Iran.

The present study evaluated if ZnONPs induce oxidative stress, immunological impairment and cellular damage in tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), as well as the possible protective effect of vitamin E. Fish were fed for ten days and five study groups were investigated: controls, two ZnONPs concentrations (1.5 and 2.

A chiral biosensing platform was developed using betamethasone (BMZ) as chiral recognition element through multilayered electrochemical deposition of BMZ, overoxidized polypyrrole, and nanosheets of graphene (OPPy-BMZ/GR), for enantio-recognition of mandelic acid (MA) enantiomers. The deposited film was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, differential pulse voltammetry, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. It was shown that the chiral sensing platform can discriminate R- and S-MA differential pulse voltammetry signals, at the voltages of 1.

A simple and sensitive approach was demonstrated for detection of ascorbic acid (AA) based on seed-mediated growth of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs). According to the seeding strategy, silver ions existing in the growth solution were reduced to silver atoms on the surface of silver seeds via redox reaction between silver ions and AA. This process -led to appear an absorption band in near 420nm owing to the localized surface plasmon resonance peak of the generated Ag NPs.

Biomaterials Innovation Research Center, Division of Engineering in Medicine, Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA 02139;

Organ-on-a-chip systems are miniaturized microfluidic 3D human tissue and organ models designed to recapitulate the important biological and physiological parameters of their in vivo counterparts. They have recently emerged as a viable platform for personalized medicine and drug screening. These in vitro models, featuring biomimetic compositions, architectures, and functions, are expected to replace the conventional planar, static cell cultures and bridge the gap between the currently used preclinical animal models and the human body.

An integrated dual functional recognition/amplification bio-label for the one-step impedimetric detection of Micro-RNA-21.

Biosens Bioelectron

June 2017

Biosensors and Bioelectronics Centre, Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM), Linköping University, S-58183 Linköping, Sweden. Electronic address:

Alteration in expression of miRNAs has been correlated with different cancer types, tumour stage and response to treatments. In this context, a structurally responsive oligonucleotide-based electrochemical impedimetric biosensor has been developed for the simple and sensitive detection of miRNA-21. A highly specific biotinylated DNA/LNA molecular beacon (MB) probe was conjugated with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to create an integrated, dual function bio-label (biotin-MB-AuNPs) for both biorecognition and signal generation.

For the first time, the application of polytetrafluoroethylene powder as an extractant phase collector or holder in liquid-phase microextraction has been developed. For this purpose, the analytical performances of two different ways of applying polytetrafluoroethylene powder in microextraction methods including polytetrafluoroethylene physisorption-assisted emulsification microextraction and dispersive liquid-phase microextraction via polytetrafluoroethylene extractant phase holders have been compared for analysis of aliphatic hydrocarbons in aqueous phases. Under the same conditions, the former showed better extraction efficiencies over the latter and as a result, it was applied as preconcentration and cleanup step in the analysis of aliphatic hydrocarbons in sediment samples followed by gas chromatography analysis.
