This study was conducted to assess microplastic (MP) pollution in some aquatic animals inhabiting planted and natural mangrove swamps in the northern Gulf of Oman. The KOH-NaI solution was used to retrieve MPs from the gastrointestinal tracts of animals. The highest MP prevalence was recorded in crabs (41.

The spatial and temporal variations of mesozooplankton in relation to environmental parameters were investigated in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. For this purpose, the physicochemical parameters were measured using a CTD probe and mesozooplankton were sampled vertically using a closing net aboard the RV Persian Gulf Explorer during two expeditions. Results showed a relationship between mesozooplankton assemblages and water mass distributions.

During the last two decades, the number of tropical cyclone (TC) events in the Arabian Sea has increased dramatically. These events have led to severe human and economic damage in Oman, Iran and Pakistan. Within this context, Gonu, Phet and Shaheen were the Arabian Sea's most destructive TCs on record, leading to a total of 6.

The occurrence of microplastics (MPs) in beach sediments of the southern Caspian Sea was well documented, however, there are still many unknowns about the abundances and distributions of MPs in the rivers ending to the Caspian Sea. Here, bank sediments of 26 sites in the thirteen rivers were surveyed in two seasons. However, there was not any significant difference (p > 0.

The hybrid coating of curcumin and melamine was prepared by a simple electrochemical method. Some physical and chemical properties of the fiber were studied by several methods such as FT-IR, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy. The fiber was stable at the inlet of a gas chromatograph at temperatures up to 280°C.

The excellent catalytic performance of the Zn/Cl-CQDs nanozyme serves as an ideal platform for sensitive detection of thiamine. Due to the addition of riboflavin to the Zn/Cl-CQDs, the blue emission peak of Zn/Cl-CQDs at 440 nm remains unaffected and used as an internal reference approach, while the green emission peak of riboflavin at 520 nm appeared and increased remarkably.

Sedimentary PAHs are regionalized variables and their levels, source, and ecological hazards must be discussed in relation to their spatial locations. Our research targeted GIS and Chabahar Bay-Iran to trace spatial variability of PAHs, improve the diagnostic ratios and receptor models in source identification, and determine hotspot of PAH-originated hazards. The entropy Voronoi map distinguished an "entropy strip" in which ∑PAHs levels increased sharply.

The physicochemical parameters were measured using a CTD probe and mesozooplankton were sampled vertically using a closing net. Results showed the hypoxic conditions of 0.

The situation of Ramsar sites along the Caspian Sea coast has deteriorated over the past decades, and this is more noticeable in the narrow coastal strip of the south Caspian Sea. In this study we investigate how the Caspian Sea level changes affect the coastal Ramsar sites. Particularly, we focus on the Gorgan Bay in the southeast corner of the Caspian Sea, which is experiencing extensive water level decline, even desiccation.

Chabahar Bay will undergo industrial and coastal pressures according to the government plan to develop the Makran coasts. Therefore, knowing its biological community as well as their possible interactions with environmental variables, before and after coastal development, is important. The amphipod community structure and their response to the structural and contaminant parameters of the sediment include: granulometry, total organic matter (TOM) overloading, heavy metal contamination based on the Pollution Load Index (PLI) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) during post monsoon season of 2017 were investigated from 19 stations.

Early and on-site detection of environmental contaminations and physicochemical parameters of seawater is increasingly preferred to guarantee hazard minimization in many settings. In this paper, we describe a combination of microfluidic paper-based sensors (µPADs) and an Android-based smartphone application (App) for simultaneous on-site quantification of phosphate (PO-P), silicate (SiO-Si) and nitrite (NO-N) in coastal seawater samples. The developed App can on-site capture, process, and quantify the µPAD colorimetric outputs.

Distribution, sources, and ecological risk of 43 compounds of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in surficial sediments of the Persian Gulf were investigated. The sediments were sampled from 60 offshore stations during an oceanographic cruise in the winter of 2012. Gas chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry was used for the PAHs determinations in sediment samples.

Herein, a new fluorescence, UV-Vis and smartphone triple mode nanosensors were designed for the simultaneous detection of VB12 with high sensitivity and accuracy. A novel nanosensor was synthesized through nicotinamide-functionalizing of carbon quantum dot (NA-CQDs) by an one-step microwave-assisted method with green approach.

The spatial and temporal variability of suspended particulate matter (SPM) in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea coastal waters has remained challenging to understand among researchers. Here, for the first time in the region, we parametrized SPM concentration in the study area utilizing derived remote sensing reflectance (R) values from Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), using 555 and 667 nm wavelengths. Likewise, the findings showed that the developed optical model based on the optical ratio of R (667)/R (555) was sensitive to the concentration of Chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) in the seawater, within the visible wavelengths less than 600 nm.

Industrial, agricultural, and recreational activities dump several pollutants into the Caspian Sea, which is one of the main water bodies of Iran. Therefore, performing risk assessments would be required as part of the monitoring programs. Herein, non-cancer health risk assessment of the consumption of macroalgae was performed and the ecological risk assessment of metal pollution in sediments of the southern Caspian Sea was presented using sediment quality guidelines (SQGs), enrichment factors (EF), contamination factors (CF), contamination degrees (CD), pollution load indices (PLI), geo accumulation indices (I), and potential ecological risk indices (RI).
