This study investigated the effect of chitosan coating, nanopackaging, and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) to increase the shelf life and improve the quality of the white button mushroom. Uncoated and coated button mushrooms were stacked in three types of packages (normal, nano, and nano + MAP). The atmosphere inside the nano + MAP packages contained 10% oxygen and 10% carbon dioxide.

In this research, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) were prepared and employed as the electrolyte in Nafion membranes. Different factors, such as the water content and Nafion counterions (H, Li, Na and K), which could influence the PEM performance, were evaluated. The obtained results showed that the presence of water may have a constructive or destructive effect on the DES and Nafion/DES properties, which should be considered for their final applications.

A series of biodegradable amphiphilic-block segmented polyurethanes (SPUs) are designed and synthesized based on di-block and tri-block macrodiols of polycaprolactone (PCL) and polyethylene glycol (PEG). Curcumin, as a model herbal antibacterial agent, is used due to its effective inhibitory action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Curcumin-loaded nanofibers, with 400-900 nm diameter range, have been prepared by electrospinning of SPUs.

The purpose of this study was to synthesize nano-sized β-tricalcium phosphate (nano-TCP) particles and determine its concentration-dependent properties on incipient enamel caries lesions. Nano-TCP was synthesized as a wet chemical through a method using low concentration of precursors and low addition rate of calcium nitrate tetrahydrate as a second phase. Morphology and phase composition of the particles were analyzed by SEM, XRD, and EDXA techniques.

The interaction of 14 anti-inflammatory drugs with human serum albumin (HSA) was investigated using fluorescence quenching, molecular docking studies, and quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) methodology. Binding of anti-inflammatory drugs to HSA plays a fundamental role in their transport, distribution, delivery, and elimination. Binding constants of these drugs to HSA, obtained using the fluorescence quenching method, were within the range 0.

Scaffolds that are used for neural tissue engineering are fabricated to mimic the extracellular matrix. In this paper, we have fabricated polyvinyl alcohol/sulfated alginate (PVA/SA) nanofibers with different concentrations (10, 20 and 30 wt%) of sulfated alginate by electrospinning technique. The average fibers diameters of 169-488 nm were achieved by electrospinning of polymers blend (PVA/SA).

Antibody drug conjugates (ADCs), as potent pharmaceutical trojan horses for cancer treatment, provide superior efficacy and specific targeting along with low risk of adverse reactions compared to traditional chemotherapeutics. In fact, the development of these agents combines the selective targeting capability of monoclonal antibody (mAb) with high cytotoxicity of chemotherapeutics for controlling the neoplastic mass growth. Different ADCs (more than 60 ADCs) in preclinical and clinical trials were introduced in this novel pharmaceutical field.

A novel poly(urethane-urea) (PUU) based on poly(glycolide--ε-caprolactone) macro-diol with tunable mechanical properties and biodegradation behavior is reported for corneal stromal tissue regeneration. Zn-Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanoparticles were synthesized and loaded with vitamin C (VC, VC-LDH) and dispersed in the PUU to control VC release in the cell culturing medium. To mimic the corneal stromal EC, scaffolds of the PUU and its nanocomposites with VC-LDH (PUU-LDH and PUU-VC-LDH) were fabricated via electrospinning.

This study aims to induce antibacterial and superhydrophobic properties on the surface of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) sheets via an improved phase separation process through application of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) thin films. Porous PVC thin films were produced using different amounts of ethanol as nonsolvent. However, the created porosity was not sufficient to achieve superhydrophobicity.

Deep red light-emitting electrochemical cells were prepared based on a blend of [Ru(bpy)], a cationic complex, and a neutral Zn(II)-complex based on diphenylcarbazone ligands, named Zn(DPCO). The crystal structure of the Zn(DPCO) (bpy)] molecule revealed that the DPCO ligand has been deprotonated to form DPCO and coordinated to the Zn center metal through the C=O and N=N moieties of DPCO. From the cyclic voltammetry results and controlled potential coulometry data of the diphenylcarbazide (DPC) ligand, it is possible to establish that DPC is oxidized in an irreversible process at +0.

The absorption of protein and formation of biofilms on the surface of ophthalmic lenses is one of the factors that destroy their useful performance by causing severe visual impairment, inflammation, dryness and ultimate eye discomfort. Therefore, eye lenses need to be resilient to protein absorption, which is one of the opacity factors in minimizing protein absorption on the lenses. The purpose of this study was to investigate and reduce sediment biotransformation on the surface of the semi-hardened lens based on acrylate by bulk-free radical polymerization method.

We report on a combined experimental and theoretical study concerning the electrochemical behavior of the dexamethasone (DEX) on a graphene modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). A good agreement between experiments and density functional theory (DFT)-based calculations is observed for the DEX reduction. The electrochemical behavior of the DEX was investigated on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with different type of graphenes, including graphene quantum dot (GQD), graphene oxide (GO), electrochemically synthesized graphene (EG), graphene synthesized by the Hummer method (HG) and graphene nanoplate (GNP) using voltammetric techniques (CV, DPV and SWV).

In this study, a simple one-step method was introduced to prepare suitable PCL wound dressing by using a small amount of hydrophilic surface modifying macromolecule (LSMM) with ends capped with Polyethylene glycol and aminated zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (MZIF-8) as a drug carrier for curcumin to accelerate the healing process while improve drug loading and controlled drug release. First, LSMM was synthesized and its chemical structure and average molecular weight were characterized by FTIR and gel permeation chromatography. Afterward, PCL nanofibers containing LSMM and curcumin loaded MZIF-8 were prepared and characterized.

In order to perform SERS (surface-enhanced Raman scattering) measurements, spherical Cu/CuO core-shell NPs with a rather rough rugged surface and well-defined crystallographic structures were fabricated using nanosecond Ce: Nd YAG pulsed laser ablation in liquid (PLAL). Raman, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and TEM imaging of the prepared NPs reveal the existence of additional minority CuO phase, not determined earlier through XRD patterns. The SERS activity of Cu/CuO core-shell NPs substrates was investigated by using crystal violet (CV) and methylene blue (MB) as the analyte molecules under 532 nm excitation wavelength irradiation.

Statement Of The Problem: The clinical success of glass ionomer restorations depends on the strength of resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI) cement bonding to dentin and there is limited information available regarding the bond strength of resin modified glass ionomers containing silica nanoparticles to dental structures.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the microshear bond strength (µSBS) of RMGI with and without silica (SiO2) nanoparticles to dentin of permanent teeth.
Materials And Method: In this experimental study, the occlusal surfaces of 30 freshly extracted intact third molars were ground to expose the flat dentin and after conditioning with 20% poly acrylic acid, were randomly assigned to two main groups (n=15).
