Objectives: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is known to disrupt testicular anti-oxidant capacity, leading to oxidative stress (OS) that can negatively affect male fertility by damaging sperm DNA. Heat shock proteins (HSP70 and HSP90), in association with transitional proteins (TP1 and TP2), play crucial roles in protecting sperm DNA integrity in oxidative conditions. Whiteleg shrimp protein hydrolysates (HPs) exhibit anti-oxidant properties, prompting this study to explore the potential of HPs in ameliorating NAFLD-induced testicular damage.

Objectives: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a significant cause of mortality and disability worldwide. TBI has been associated with factors such as oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and apoptosis, which are believed to be mediated by the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-type glutamate receptor. Two NMDA receptor antagonists, ketamine and memantine, have shown potential in mitigating the pathophysiological effects of TBI.

Metabolic syndrome is a clustering of metabolic abnormalities and anthropometric factors that increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus. As the search for effective treatments intensifies, attention has turned towards natural substances with potential medicinal benefits. Among them, vanillic acid, a phenolic acid present in many plants, has attracted some attention due to its wide range of biological activities.

Heparin (HEP) is one of the oldest anticoagulant drugs, widely used in clinical settings, particularly in surgery and dialysis machines. Despite its long history, it remains extensively employed in medical practice. This study introduces a selective and cost-effective method for the rapid detection of HEP using red-emission carbon dots (R-CDs).

Development and maintenance of the nervous system are governed by a scheduled cell death mechanism known as apoptosis. Very much how neurons survive and function depends on the degree of death in differentiating pseudo-neuronal cells produced from neural stem cells. Different inducers can affect the degree of death in these cells: hormones, medicines, growth factors, and others.

Retinoblastoma (RB) is a common and potentially lethal cancer that primarily affects young children worldwide, with survival rates significantly varying between high- and low-income countries. This review aims to identify essential diagnostic markers for early diagnosis by investigating the molecular pathways associated with RB. The prevalence of RB cases is notably concentrated in Asia and Africa, contributing to a global survival rate estimate of less than 30%.

Background: Malnutrition is a significant challenge in stroke patients, affecting both rehabilitation and independence. This study aims to evaluate whether early L-carnitine supplementation can effectively improve anthropometric parameters and malnutrition status in acute-phase ischemic stroke patients to mitigate the catabolic state.
Methods: Eighty-two first-ever ischemic stroke patients were randomly assigned to either the L-carnitine group (1000 mg three times/day for seven consecutive days) or the matching placebo group.

Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) with cryoballoon (CB) ablation technology is widely used to treat drug-resistant atrial fibrillation (AF). During CB ablation, there is a possibility of forming an ice cap of contrast-color on top of the balloon. If automatic balloon deflate occurs before the ice cap dissolves, embolization to the systemic circulation is possible.

Background: Culture medium enriched with Knockout serum replacement (KSR) can produce in vitro mouse sperm, but it is inefficient, strain-specific and contains bovine products, which limits its use in the human clinic. The study aimed to optimize the culture medium for testicular tissue by using plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) as a serum supplement, addressing the limitations of KSR.
Methods: Immature testicular tissues from NMRI mice were cultured for 14 days to identify the optimal PRGF concentration using histological analysis and tubular integrity scoring.

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD), a non-communicable condition, stands as the primary cause of death globally. This study seeks to evaluate the predictive power of atherogenic indices, which are recognized for their influence on CVD, alongside a newly developed index encompassing all three principal risk factors for CVD, referred to as the triglyceride-total cholesterol-body weight index (TCBI). The primary outcomes evaluated include both the incidence and mortality rates associated with CVD.

Background: Moral intelligence is a significant and influential factor in the delivery of principled and high-quality care. This is because moral intelligence is the ability to recognize and be sensitive to moral issues, which contributes to the organization of appropriate behavior in the face of moral issues. This is particularly pertinent given that pre-hospital emergency medical services personnel (prehospital EMS personnel) frequently encounter stressful and tension-filled situations.
