Recurrent vulvar squamous cell carcinoma with multiple site metastases is a rare entity - (up to 14.2% of the total number of recurrences), with a poor prognosis (only 15% of the patients alive at 5 years). Due to its "hard to find" character, there are no standardized guidelines available and the treatment is extrapolated from advanced cervical carcinoma, anal carcinoma and other squamous cell carcinomas.

For breast cancer patients, BRCA gene mutations are predictive of a good response to chemotherapy, but are hampered by a high risk of bilateral and synchronous or metachronous ovarian cancer. Novel therapies such as PARP-inhibitors have proven effective for BRCA1/2 mutated ovarian cancer. We present the case of a 50-year-old woman, initially diagnosed with bilateral luminal B breast cancer with BRCA1 mutation.

Endorectal ultrasound applications in the evaluation of rectal tumors could be a useful tool in achieving proper staging of rectal cancer. The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of rectal tumor staging by flexible endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) with real-time elastography (RTE) using the gold standard post-surgery histological analysis of the resected tissue as the control. The second aim of our research was to establish cutoff values for the EUS-RTE strain ratio corresponding to stages by independently comparing the stiffness values obtained with histology and EUS-RTE staging in order to minimize observation bias.

Introduction: The potential oncogenic effect of some heavy metals in people occupationally and non-occupationally exposed to such heavy metals is already well demonstrated. This study seeks to clarify the potential role of these heavy metals in the living environment, in this case in non-occupational multifactorial aetiology of malignancies in the inhabitants of areas with increased prevalent environmental levels of heavy metals.
Methods: Using a multidisciplinary approach throughout a complex epidemiological study, we investigated the potential oncogenic role of non-occupational environmental exposure to some heavy metals [chrome (Cr), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb) and arsenic (As)-in soil, drinking water, and food, as significant components of the environment] in populations living in areas with different environmental levels (high vs.

Green synthesis of gold nanoparticles capped with resveratrol (GNPs) and their physical and chemical characterization by UV-vis spectra, FTIR, DLS, XRD, TEM and AFM are reported. The GNPs are highly stable, with average diameter of about 20 nm. Then, supramolecular nanoassemblies of GNPs and doxorubicin (Dox), Dox-GNPs complexes, were prepared and morphologically characterized.

We studied whether the serum levels of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and of antibodies against the N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor subunit NR2 (NR2 RNMDA ) can discriminate between intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) and ischaemic stroke (IS) in stroke patients. We prospectively recruited patients with suspected stroke (72 confirmed) and 52 healthy controls. The type of brain lesion (ICH or IS) was established using brain imaging.

Background: In the recent years, the use of natural antioxidants as photochemoprotective agents against skin damages produced by ultraviolet radiation gained considerable attention. Our goal was to show that the hydroethanolic extract obtained from red grape seeds, Burgund Mare (BM) variety could have a protective effect on keratinocytes exposed to UVB radiation.
Materials And Methods: HaCaT keratinocytes were treated with BM extract 30 min.

Unlabelled: Patients with polycythemia vera (PV) and essential thrombocythemia (ET) are at risk of developing arterial and venous thromboembolic complications. Given the complex interaction between blood cells and the vessel wall, it is possible that atherogenesis may also be accelerated in these patients. We used Doppler arterial ultrasound to assess the presence of arterial stenosis in a cohort of PV and ET patients.
