The glomerular filtration rate (GFR), according to which the drug dose for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) is adjusted, is computed with estimators (eGFR) that are developed specifically for CKD. These particular types of estimators are also used in population pharmacokinetic (pop PK) modelling in drug development. Similar approaches without scientific validation have been proposed for patients with acute kidney injury (AKI), yet it is uncertain which specific eGFR should be used for drug dosing or in pop PK models in patients with AKI.

Purpose: Low-dose radiation therapy (LD-RT) has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect, and preliminary results suggest it is feasible to treat patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia.
Materials And Methods: We conducted a prospective, single-arm, phase 1/2 clinical trial enrolling patients aged ≥50 years, who were coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) positive, at phase 2 or 3 with lung involvement at imaging study and oxygen requirement. Patients received 100 cGy to total lungs in a single fraction.

Rotavirus A (RVA) is an important pathogen causing gastroenteritis in many species, including humans and pigs. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of RVA in pigs from smallholdings and commercial farms in southern Mozambique and characterize the complete genomes of selected strains. RVA was detected at a rate of 11.

Survival in high-risk neuroblastoma (HR-NB) patients remains poor despite multimodal treatment. We aimed to identify HR-NB patients with worse outcomes by analyzing the genomic instability derived from segmental chromosomal aberrations. We calculated 3 genomic instability indexes for primary tumor SNP array profiles from 127 HR-NB patients: (1) Copy number aberration burden (%gains+%losses), (2) copy number load (CNL) (%gains-%losses) and (3) net genomic load (NGL) (%gains-%losses).

The aim of this study was to quantitatively assess the human health risks derived from different exposure paths of heavy metals in the soil. Zhangqiu county was selected as the study area, and 425 soil samples were collected to measure the As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, and Zn contents. A descriptive statistical method was used to assess the heavy metal pollution status of the soils, and the quantitative sources for human health were then determined based on positive matrix factorization (PMF) and geo-statistical techniques.

Groundwater inflow to an underground mine will seriously affect its mining plan and engineering geology safety. Groundwater models are powerful tools commonly used in the mines to develop dewatering strategies. Many mines in the Kolwezi area have been present since the 1950s, and groundwater flow patterns have been significantly influenced by mining activities.

tremor is an unintentional and rhythmic movement of any part of the body that is a typical symptom of Essential Tremor (ET). ET impairs the quality of life of patients and is treated with pharmacotherapy. We investigated the tremor reduction efficacy of an innovative vibrational medical device (IMD) in ET patients.

Objective: to assess the epidemiology and features of de novo surgical diseases in patients admitted with COVID-19, and their impact on patients and healthcare system.
Summary Background Data: Gastrointestinal involvement has been described in COVID-19; however, no clear figures of incidence, epidemiology and economic impact exist for de-novo surgical diseases in hospitalized patients.
Methods: This is a prospective study including all patients admitted with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 rT-PCR, between 1 March and 15 May 2020 at two Tertiary Hospitals.

Background: The nutritional determinants of stroke and, more specifically, the association of frying with the risk of incident stroke have rarely been studied.
Objectives: Our aim was to evaluate prospectively the association between the consumption of fried food and the risk of incident stroke in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition study using the Spanish cohort.
Methods: Participants included 40,328 healthy adults (62% women) aged 29-69 y at study entry who were enrolled between 1992 and 1996.

Congenital long QT syndromes (cLQTS) are relatively rare diseases in which QT interval is prolonged due to several mutations on ion channels involved in cardiac cell repolarization. This condition confers higher risk of malignant arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death, and it is widely accepted that substances that prolong QT interval should be avoided by these patients. Most of these substances are antibiotics and non-antibiotics drugs, but almost nothing is known about frequently consumed fruits and juices.

Up to now, only few isolates were recovered using this procedure. In our experience, the choice of the selective agar is important for the efficacy of the method.

Background: Dysbiosis in lung cancer has been underexplored. The aim of this study was to define the bacterial and fungal microbiota of the bronchi in central lung cancer and to compare it with that of the oral and intestinal compartments.
Methods: Twenty-five patients with central lung cancer and sixteen controls without antimicrobial intake during the previous month were recruited.

Background And Aim: In December 2019, the first cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection were detected in Wuhan. Within two months, it had begun to spread around the world in what became an unprecedented pandemic. Patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in a state of immunosuppression may be considered at risk for complications in the COVID-19 pandemic, although there is increasing evidence postulating a possible protective role of selective immunosuppression.

Aim: Anastomotic leakage is a major complication after right hemicolectomy leading to increased morbidity, mortality, length of stay and hospital costs. Previous studies have shown that the type of anastomosis (handsewn or stapled) is a major risk factor for anastomotic leakage. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical impact of anastomotic leakage depending on the type of anastomotic technique (handsewn vs stapled).

To examine the status and risk of heavy metal pollution in an urban wetland in China, the distribution and speciation of chromium (Cr) and other metals (Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn) were examined. We investigated the impact of three major land uses (residential and industrial (RI), orange plantation (OP), and mixed OP and RI (OPRI)) on the heavy metal characteristics using sediment cores (0-60 cm below water/sediment interface) collected in Sanyang Wetland, China. It was found that all the metals (Cr, Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn) had lower concentrations in the top layers but higher contents in the bottom layers of sediments.

Objectives: The influence of glycosylation on the antigen-neutralizing ability of two potential biotherapeutic anti-human IFN-α2b antibodies composed by murine and humanized single-chain Fv fused to human Fcγ1 (chimeric and humanized scFv-Fc, respectively) was studied.
Results: Chimeric antibodies produced in CHO-K1 and HEK293 mammalian cells showed no differences in the antigen-antibody affinity but demonstrated differences in the in vitro neutralization of IFN-α2b activity. On the other hand, the humanized antibodies produced in the same cell types showed differences in both the antigen-antibody affinity and the antigen-neutralizing ability.
