[Current Review: Multifocal Intraocular Lenses and Extended Depth of Focus Intraocular Lenses].

Presbyopia and cataract patients' wish to be increasingly independent of spectacles after surgery and this is one of the main drivers for the development of multifocal intraocular lenses (MIOL) and extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lenses (IOL). As education, biometry, diagnostics, surgical techniques, and MIOL/EDOF IOL designs have improved over the past decade, an increasing number of cataract surgeons have become cataract refractive surgeons to help address this need. There is not one single MIOL/EDOF IOL, however, that suits all patients' needs.

[Comparison of Long-term Results with Small Incision Refractive Lenticule Extraction (ReLEX SMILE) vs. Femto-LASIK].

Aim: Our aim was to retrospectively compare ReLEx Smile to femtosecondlaser-assisted LASIK (FsLASIK, femto-LASIK) in terms of safety, efficacy, stability as well as intraoperative complications. Comparable studies only show the results over the course of 3 years, making our data the first to examine longer term results.

Materials/methods: To accomplish this, we compared 404 eyes after FsLASIK (Mel 80, Carl Zeiss Meditec) and 1192 eyes after ReLEx SMILE (VisuMax, Carl Zeiss Meditec).

[Clinical Evaluation of a Novel Intraocular Lens with Enhanced Depth of Focus (EDOF) to Increase Visual Acuity for Intermediate Distances].

Background: Modern intraocular lens surgery has made great progress over the last few years towards creating independency of spectacles in daily life. Especially in the areas of distant and near visual acuity, optimisation has been possible. [Glaucoma in inpatient care in Germany in 2015].

Aim: Analysis of structural characteristics of inpatient treatment of glaucoma in clinical units run by affiliated physicians and those run by hospital physicians in Germany are described. The frequency and distribution of glaucoma diagnoses as the main and secondary diagnosis at different departments and glaucoma diagnoses, number of cases, surgeries and procedures and patient characteristics of the four glaucoma-specific diagnosis-related groups (DRG) are presented.

[Clinical Comparison of a Trifocal and a Trifocal-Toric Intraocular Lens Based on the Same Diffractive Platform].

To evaluate and compare the visual performance of a trifocal and a trifocal-toric intraocular lens (IOL) based on the same diffractive platform. Prospective non-randomized comparative study enrolling 142 eyes of 77 patients (age 40-73 years) undergoing uneventful phacoemulsification lens surgery. Two groups were differentiated according to the implanted IOL: trifocal group, 98 eyes (50 patients) implanted with the trifocal diffractive IOL AT LISA tri 839MP (Carl Zeiss Meditec), and trifocal-toric group, 44 eyes (27 patients) implanted with the trifocal-toric diffractive IOL AT LISA trifocal-toric 939MP (Carl Zeiss Meditec).

[Impact of Different Percent Tissue Altered Values on Visual Outcome after Refractive Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (ReLEx SMILE)].

  To compare the visual outcomes after ReLEx SMILE treatment of eyes with low and high PTA values (PTA: percent tissue altered) within a follow-up period of up to 3 years and to assess whether a high PTA value might contribute to the development of keratectasia, as is the case for LASIK.   This retrospective analysis comprises results from 313 eyes (189 patients) with a PTA value of less than 40 % and of 373 eyes (213 patients) with a PTA value of at least 40 %. Preoperatively and up to 3 years after SMILE surgery, refraction values, monocular corrected (CDVA) and uncorrected distant visual acuity (UDVA) and wavefront data were evaluated.
