Introduction: We aimed to determine the impact of prior antimicrobial treatment on recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) based on days of antibiotic spectrum coverage (DASC) and predict the risk of recurrence to guide the selection of appropriate initial therapeutic agents.
Methods: We assessed the antimicrobial treatment administered to 195 patients with a history of CDI for 28 days before testing positive for C. difficile using DASC and illness severity using ATLAS scores.

Breast imaging has several modalities, each unique in terms of its imaging position, evaluation index, and imaging method. Breast diagnosis is made by combining a large number of past imaging features with the clinical course and histological findings. Artificial intelligence (AI), which extracts the features from image data and evaluates them based on comprehensive analysis, has been making rapid progress in this regard.

Introduction: Quetiapine is available in both immediate-release (IR) and extended-release (XR) formulations. Quetiapine XR overdose is known to cause delayed increase in serum quetiapine concentrations. However, it is not certain whether quetiapine IR overdose would similarly cause a delayed increase in serum quetiapine concentrations.

Background: Patients with hallux valgus are known to alter lower limb joint kinematics during gait. However, little information is available about gait changes following hallux valgus surgery. We aimed to longitudinally investigate lower limb kinematic changes at the mid and terminal stances of gait after hallux valgus surgery.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of iterative motion correction (IMC) on reducing artifacts in brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with deep learning reconstruction (DLR). The study included 10 volunteers (between September 2023 and December 2023) and 30 patients (between June 2022 and July 2022) for quantitative and qualitative analyses, respectively. Volunteers were instructed to remain still during the first MRI with fluid-attenuated inversion recovery sequence (FLAIR) and to move during the second scan.

Rationale And Objectives: To determine if super-resolution deep learning reconstruction (SR-DLR) improves the depiction of cranial nerves and interobserver agreement when assessing neurovascular conflict in 3D fast asymmetric spin echo (3D FASE) brain MR images, as compared to deep learning reconstruction (DLR).
Materials And Methods: This retrospective study involved reconstructing 3D FASE MR images of the brain for 37 patients using SR-DLR and DLR. Three blinded readers conducted qualitative image analyses, evaluating the degree of neurovascular conflict, structure depiction, sharpness, noise, and diagnostic acceptability.

Background: No comprehensive analysis of the pulmonary sequelae of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Japan based on respiratory function tests and chest computed tomography (CT) has been reported. We evaluated post-COVID-19 conditions, especially focusing on pulmonary sequelae assessed by pulmonary function tests and chest CT.
Methods: For this prospective cohort study, we enrolled 1069 patients who presented pneumonia at the time of admission in 55 hospitals from February 2020 to September 2021.

Dengue is a systemic viral infection, and clinical findings vary from asymptomatic to life-threatening, including shock and neurological complications. Despite efforts in vector control, the disease continues to spread worldwide, and the number of annual dengue infections is estimated to be 390 million. For patients with severe dengue, early diagnosis is important; however, owing to the wide range of symptoms and severity, diagnosis can be difficult.

Corrective spine surgery for spinal deformities, such as adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) and adult spinal deformity (ASD), aims to enhance the quality of life by addressing physical impairments. However, the extent of patient satisfaction after surgery, which includes pain management, functional recovery, and psychological contentment, exhibits considerable variation across different cultural and geographical landscapes. This review describes the influence of cultural and regional disparities on postoperative satisfaction in AIS and ASD surgery with a particular emphasis on the disparities between the US and Japan.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is an interstitial lung disease with a poor prognosis and an unknown cause that generally progresses to pulmonary fibrosis and leads to irreversible tissue alteration. The "Guidelines for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis 2017," specializing in the treatment of IPF for the first time in Japan and presenting evidence-based standard treatment methods suited to the state of affairs in Japan, was published in 2017, in line with the 2014 version of "Formulation procedure for Minds Clinical Practice Guidelines." Because new evidence had accumulated, we formulated the "Guidelines for the treatment of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis 2023 (revised 2nd edition).
