: This study analyzed the relationship between pressure pain test outcomes and sarcopenia in elderly patients and explored possible clinical applications. : The participants included 143 older adults requiring long-term care who could be diagnosed with sarcopenia. Along with sarcopenia diagnosis, the participants underwent acupressure testing symmetrically at nine sites (occiput, lower cervical, trapezius, supraspinatus, second rib, lateral epicondyle, gluteus, greater trochanter, and knee), totaling 18 sites.

In the lives of those who are the target of community health nursing, it is important to collaborate with individuals and communities to improve their quality of life. Herein, we aimed to determine the association between Internet use among older individuals and locomotive syndrome (LS), frailty, and sarcopenia. In this cross-sectional study conducted between July 2022 and March 2023, we recruited 105 community-dwelling older Japanese adults who participated in a care prevention project called "Kayoi-no-ba".

[Purpose] Behavioral restrictions during the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic may have affected the physical activity levels of college students. We aimed to characterize the body composition and physical activity of college students during these behavioral restrictions. [Participants and Methods] The body composition (height, weight, body mass index, body fat mass, body fat percentage, total body muscle mass, free-fat muscle index [FFMI], and fat mass index [FMI]), physical activity, amount the of walking, amount of daily activity, and the number of steps were measured in 52 university students.

[Purpose] This study aimed to clarify the relationship between falls and lower leg motion during obstacle crossing, in which stumbling or tripping is the most common cause of falls in the elderly population. [Participants and Methods] This study included 32 older adults who performed the obstacle crossing motion. The heights of the obstacles were 20, 40, and 60 mm.

[Purpose] We aimed to determine whether lower leg muscle echo intensity, an indicator of muscle quality, is a useful predictor of gait variability after examining the relationship between physical activity and gait variability in community-dwelling older and healthy young adults. [Participants and Methods] This study comprised two tasks. In the first task, 18 older and 25 young adults were included as participants.

[Purpose] To clarify the relationship between changes in deoxygenated hemoglobin level due to cycling exercise and body composition in healthy participants with unilateral lower-limb obstruction. [Participants and Methods] The height, weight, body mass index, and body composition (skeletal muscle mass, body water content, and body fat percentage) of nine healthy males were measured along with the anaerobic threshold. The protocol consisted of 7 minutes of rest followed by 4 minutes of cycling exercise (anaerobic threshold level) with unilateral lower extremity occlusion.

Background: Osteochondral autologous transfer is one of the repair techniques for cartilage defects of knee with promising knee function recovery. There are no reports including histopathological images concerning human osteochondral tissue after osteochondral autologous transfer. This is the first report to present pathohistological findings of transplanted plugs and host tissues extracted from the human body 3 years after osteochondral autologous transfer.

The self-identification, which is called sense of ownership, has been researched through methodology of rubber hand illusion (RHI) because of its simple setup. Although studies with neuroimaging technique, such as fMRI, revealed that several brain areas are associated with the sense of ownership, near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) has not yet been utilized. Here we introduced an automated setup to induce RHI, measured the brain activity during the RHI with NIRS, and analyzed the functional connectivity so as to understand dynamical brain relationship regarding the sense of ownership.

The present study investigates autonomic cardiovascular regulation during postural changes while in Fowler's position. Respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) and sequence baroreflex sensitivity (sBRS) were measured in 12 healthy individuals in three positions (Experiment 1). We also measured RSA, sBRS, tidal volume (TV), lung volume spectrum (LV spectrum), and transfer gain and phase between lung volume and RR interval (RSA-TF, RSATF-phase) in 11 healthy individuals in two positions (Experiment 2).
