Article Synopsis
  • Collagen disorders are chronic autoimmune diseases, and their relationship with breast cancer risk is uncertain; this study focused on the outcomes of 25 women with both conditions.
  • The study reviewed patient data, revealing that most had specific types of collagen disorders, and the majority received immunosuppressive treatments.
  • Key findings showed that these patients had higher Ki-67 levels (indicating faster cancer cell growth) and lower rates of recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) compared to a control group, suggesting the need for close follow-up for these patients.

18-Oxocortisol is the product of the metabolism of 11-deoxycortisol by the mitochondrial enzyme aldosterone synthase (CYP11B2). The traditional concept is that the CYP11B2 is exclusively expressed in zona glomerulosa cells and the 17α-hydroxylase (CYP17A1) enzyme, required to synthesize 11-deoxycortisol, is in the zona fasciculata of the human adrenal. It has been postulated that the substrate for 18-oxocortisol is either cortisol from the circulation or from zona fasciculata cells adjacent to the zona glomerulosa.

Background: Although flexible endoscopy is effective for intraventricular lesions, it is less frequently used for hemorrhagic cases. In some hemorrhagic strokes, blood clots may plunge into the cerebral aqueduct and cause acute obstructive hydrocephalus. A flexible endoscope can aspirate clots and prevent acute hydrocephalus.

Tumor Endothelial Marker-1 (TEM1/CD248) is a tumor vascular marker with high therapeutic and diagnostic potentials. Immuno-imaging with TEM1-specific antibodies can help to detect cancerous lesions, monitor tumor responses, and select patients that are most likely to benefit from TEM1-targeted therapies. In particular, near infrared(NIR) optical imaging with biomarker-specific antibodies can provide real-time, tomographic information without exposing the subjects to radioactivity.
