The hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathies (HSANs) are a group of rare genetic disorders characterised by variable phenotypic expression affecting both sensory and autonomic dysfunction. Diagnosing these conditions can be a challenge as the presenting symptoms can be diverse and may overlap. This often leads to a delay in referral and diagnosis.

Background: Providing care to older people can be an extremely complex task, given their increased functional deficits, which may lead to family caregivers experiencing burnout and a deteriorated health status. This study investigated the caregiving burden of older people with functional deficits on family caregivers and associated factors.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on family caregivers of older people with functional deficits living in FELDA schemes in Pahang, Malaysia.

Parkinson's disease may be caused by a single highly deleterious and penetrant pathogenic variant in 5-10% of cases (monogenic). Research into these mutational disorders yields important pathophysiological insights. This article examines the phenotype, genotype, pathophysiology, and geographic and ethnic distribution of genetic forms of disease.

Parkinson's disease (PD), the most common motoric neurodegenerative illness, has been extensively researched to better understand its complex pathophysiology. Nearly 80% of genome-wide association studies have been conducted on persons of European ancestry, indicating a lack of diversity in human genetics. Disparate representation may result in disparities that impede the equitable adoption of personalized medicine and may also limit our knowledge of illness etiology.

This study aimed to characterize the metabolic composition of four types of commercially available chicken breeds [village chicken, colored broiler (Hubbard), broiler (Cobb), and spent layers (Dekalb)] by H NMR coupling and discriminate them using multivariate analysis. Five chickens were collected for each chicken breed based on the marketing age from the respective commercial farms. The orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) results showed an obvious separation of local village chickens from the other breeds based on the metabolites present in their serum and meat (pectoralis major).

The emergence of resistance to pathogenic bacteria has resulted from the misuse of antibiotics used in wound treatment. Therefore, nanomaterial-based agents can be used to overcome these limitations. In this study, polycaprolactone (PCL)/gelatin/graphene oxide electrospun nanofibers (PGO) are functionalized via plasma treatment with the monomeric groups diallylamine (PGO-M1), acrylic acid (PGO-M2), and -butyl acrylate (PGO-M3) to enhance the action against bacteria cells.

In the past decade, electrospun nanofibers made of biodegradable polymers have been used for different biomedical applications due to their flexible features in terms of surface area to volume ratio, pores, and fiber size, as well as their highly tunable surface properties. Recently, interest is growing in the use of supramolecular structures in combination with electrospun nanofibers for the fabrication of bioactive platforms with improved in vitro responses, to be used for innovative therapeutic treatments. Herein, sulfonatocalix[4]arene (SCX4) was synthesized from --butyl-calix[4]arene and embedded in electrospun nanofibers made of polycaprolactone (PCL) and gelatin (GEL).

Introduction: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the critical medical issues of the 21st century. Medical professionals are the primary prescribers of antimicrobials; their undergraduate education of antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) is considered one of the fundamental approaches in combating the issue of AMR. This education level provides a platform to bridge any gaps in their knowledge and competency in AMS.

The rise of antibiotic resistance has become a major threat to human health and it is spreading globally. It can cause common infectious diseases to be difficult to treat and leads to higher medical costs and increased mortality. Hence, multifunctional polymeric nanofibers with distinctive structures and unique physiochemical properties have emerged as a neo-tool to target biofilm and overcome deadly bacterial infections.

Virus-like particles (VLPs) are known as self-assembled, non-replicative and non-infectious protein particles, which imitate the formation and structure of original wild type viruses, however, lack the viral genome and/or their fragments. The capacity of VLPs to encompass small molecules like nucleic acids and others has made them as novel vessels of nanocarriers for drug delivery applications. In addition, VLPs surface have the capacity to achieve variation of the surface display via several modification strategies including genetic modification, chemical modification, and non-covalent modification.

Over the past two decades, various eco-friendly approaches utilizing microbial species to clean up contaminated environments have surfaced. In this aspect, actinobacteria have demonstrated their potential in contaminant degradation. The members of actinobacteria phylum exhibits a cosmopolitan distribution, which means that they can be found widely in both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.

Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) has rapidly gained popularity as an effective treatment modality for achalasia. However, POEM services in the South East Asian region are not widely available due to either a lack of expertise or interest. In this article, we describe how a POEM service can be developed through a combination of networking with regional experts, having prior experience of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), attending animal model workshops, collaborating with upper gastrointestinal surgeons, and working together in a multidisciplinary team.

Such elevation in levels of PA constitutes a neurodevelopmental metabolic disorder called propionic acidemia, which could clinically manifest as autism. The purpose of this study was to investigate the protective effects of different fractions of bee pollen (BP) on PA-induced autism in rats, and to evaluate their effects on the expression of liver and renal biomarkers.
