Working Group on Continuous Glucose Monitoring, Scientific Division, The International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, Milano, Italy.
Metrics derived from continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems are often discordant between systems. A major cause is that CGM systems are not standardized; they use various algorithms and calibration methods, leading to discordant CGM readings across systems. This discordance can be addressed by standardizing CGM performance assessments: If manufacturers aim their CGM systems at the same target, then CGM readings will align across systems.

Objective: Fasting insulin and the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) index are relatively simple and reliable noninvasive markers of insulin resistance (IR). Given the relevance of correctly diagnosing IR, we emphasize the importance of establishing reliable reference intervals (RIs) for these markers. This study aimed to determine the RIs of fasting insulin and HOMA-IR index in adults living in Rio de Janeiro and, secondarily, to verify potential RI differences between sexes.

Background: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is characterized by a wide range of tumor-induced immune alterations. Regulatory T cells (Treg) play a central role in these immune responses. CD200 and Leukocyte-associated immunoglobulin-like receptor-1 (LAIR-1, CD305) are inhibitory markers said to be involved in Treg immune response.

Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and spatial transcriptomics (ST) are two emerging research technologies that uniquely characterize gene expression microenvironments on a cellular or subcellular level. The skin, a clinically accessible tissue composed of diverse, essential cell populations, serves as an ideal target for these high-resolution investigative approaches. Using these tools, researchers are assembling a compendium of data and discoveries in healthy skin as well as a range of dermatologic pathophysiologies, including atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and cutaneous malignancies.

Background: Clinical and analytical information on laboratory data of neonates in scientific publications is sparse and incomplete. Furthermore, interpreting neonatal laboratory data can be complex due to their time-dependent and developmental physiology, and paucity of well-established age-appropriate reference ranges for neonates. This study aims to develop publication recommendations to report laboratory data of neonates to enhance the quality of these data in research and clinical care.

The goals of the Association for Molecular Pathology Clinical Practice Committee's Pharmacogenomics (PGx) Working Group are to define the key attributes of pharmacogenetic alleles recommended for clinical testing and a minimum set of variants that should be included in clinical PGx genotyping assays. This document series provides recommendations for a minimum panel of variant alleles (tier 1) and an extended panel of variant alleles (tier 2) that will aid clinical laboratories when designing assays for PGx testing. The Association for Molecular Pathology PGx Working Group considered functional impact of the variant alleles, allele frequencies in multiethnic populations, the availability of reference materials, and other technical considerations for PGx testing when developing these recommendations.

Objectives: Clinical laboratory results are required for critical medical decisions, underscoring the importance of quality results. As part of total quality management, external quality assessment (EQA) is a vital component to ensure laboratory accuracy. The goal of this survey was to evaluate the current status of global laboratory quality systems and assess the need for implementation, expansion, or harmonization of EQA programs (EQAP) for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine.

Background: In analytical performance studies, the choice of comparator method plays an important role, as studies have shown that there exist relevant systematic differences (bias) between laboratory analyzers. The feasibility of retrospective recalibration of measurement results through comparison with methods or materials of higher metrological order to minimize bias was therefore assessed.
Method: Existing data from performance studies of continuous and blood glucose monitoring systems were retrospectively analyzed.

Neonatal jaundice is one of the most common clinical conditions affecting newborns. For most newborns, jaundice is harmless, however, a proportion of newborns develops severe neonatal jaundice requiring therapeutic interventions, accentuating the need to have reliable and accurate screening tools for timely recognition across different health settings. The gold standard method in diagnosing jaundice involves a blood test and requires specialized hospital-based laboratory instruments.

Aim of this work was to verify the analytical performance of thyroid panel tests measured by chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) CL-1200i and to validate its efficacy as laboratory test for thyroid disorder.Serum samples were obtained by standard centrifugation, thawed and assayed in a blinded fashion, and in a single batch. This study compares the values of thyroid panel tests measured by Mindray CL-1200i chemiluminescent system to the Abbott platforms for TSH, FT3, FT4, and Beckman Coulter for Tg, TgAb, and TPOAb on patient serum samples.

Breast milk is an emerging matrix for vitamin D assessment of breastfed infants and their mothers. It is considered a more reliable indicator of infant intake than the assessment of maternal circulating vitamin D. With the improved sensitivity of mass spectrometry-based technologies, this method principle has been the recent mainstay for the quantitation of various vitamin D metabolites in breast milk for population-based clinical trials.

Introduction: Besides distinctive respiratory and digestive hallmarks, COVID-19 has been recently associated with a high prevalence of pro-inflammatory and hypercoagulable states known as "COVID-19 Associated Coagulopathy" (CAC), corresponding to a worsening in patients' conditions, whose causes are still to be elucidated. A link between anti-phospholipid antibodies (aPLs) and viral infections has long been suggested. APLs are assessed for anti-phospholipid syndrome (APS) diagnosis, characterized by thrombocytopenia, thrombosis, and coagulopathy.
