The Turkevich method was optimized to prepare gold nanoparticles (AuNP) stabilized by polyethyleneglycol (PEG) for µCT. Using various independent modalities, we thoroughly characterized the optimized PEG-AuNPs. Here, we show that PEG-AuNPs are retained in the blood and provide a high contrast in the high-resolution µCT imaging of blood vessels and inner organs.

Unnafected female carriers of and pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants (P/LPVs) are at higher risk of breast cancer (BC) and ovarian cancer (OC). In the retrospective single-institution study in the Czech Republic, we analyzed the rate, longitudinal trends, and effectiveness of prophylactic risk-reducing mastectomy (RRM) and risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) on the incidence of BC and OC in / carriers diagnosed between years (y) 2000 to 2020. The study included 496 healthy female / carriers.

Background: For hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), effective therapeutic approaches are lacking. As aberrant gene methylation is a major contributor to HCC development, demethylating drugs such as 5-azacytidine (5-Aza) have been proposed. As most 5-Aza mechanisms of action are unknown, we investigated its phenotypic/molecular effects.

The tight regulation of cytoskeleton dynamics is required for a number of cellular processes, including migration, division and differentiation. YAP-TEAD respond to cell-cell interaction and to substrate mechanics and, among their downstream effects, prompt focal adhesion (FA) gene transcription, thus contributing to FA-cytoskeleton stability. This activity is key to the definition of adult cell mechanical properties and function.

Background: The addition of electroanatomic mapping to a standard echo-guided endomyocardial biopsy could identify areas of abnormal pathology and increase the diagnostic yield of the procedure.

Methods And Results: In this demonstration of a novel technique, a 45-year-old woman with clinical suspicion for cardiac sarcoidosis underwent right ventricular bipolar electroanatomical mapping with identification of areas of signal fractionation and low voltage. A bioptome, configured to record an electrogram from the tip, was then visualized on the three-dimensional electroanatomic mapping (3DEAM) system, and directed to these areas.
